MP admits ownership of seven homes

MP Michael Meacher has finally revealed how many homes he owns after years
of speculation about the size of his property empire.
A TV investigation claimed the Oldham West and Royton MP, who is the
Environment Minister, owned up to 12 homes, worth up to £2 million.
But the latest register of members' interests, published at the House of
Commons, reveals that the true figure is seven.
They include four homes in London, which are rented out by property
companies that are run by Mr Meacher and his wife Lucianne.
The MP also owns houses in Healds Green, Chadderton, in the Cotswolds, in
Gloucestershire, and shares his wife's Wimbledon home, in south London.
Mr Meacher has faced fierce criticism of his property empire, because he
previously called for curbs on the rights of people in rural areas to own a
second home.
Most controversial was a luxury flat, where the developers paid £600,000 to
the local council to bypass a requirement to provide cheap, affordable
housing within the development.
In previous registers, Mr Meacher had simply declared a "small number of
flats" in London, without stating how many he owned.
It is not clear why he changed his entry, because he had insisted he had
broken no parliamentary rules and that he was cleared of breaching the
ministerial code.
The latest register also reveals that Mr Meacher rented out his Cotswolds
home, in the village of Hilcot End, for two weeks in the last year.
And the MP - a passionate tennis player - declared two free tickets and
hospitality for the Wimbledon Men's Singles Final, courtesy of Barclays
Bank, in July.
In contrast, Phil Woolas, the Oldham East and Saddleworth MP and a
Government whip, has no entry in this year's register.
Ashton MP David Heyes, whose constituency includes Failsworth and
Hollinwood, declared his allowances as an Oldham borough councillor.

How does it reveal that "the true figure is seven"? All it reveals is that
he's listed seven properties in the register. So the figure could be 7, 12,
or 112.
MPs have been known to be less than open wrt the register.

All of Blair's cronies have certainly helped themselves pretty
liberally !
And the Blair's certainly need throwing out of power for their
open corruption. What is intolerable is the typical criminal
response of wide-eyed surprise and mock outrage when they
are found out.
He is going to be very wide eyed and outraged when he faces
the treason and corruption charges which have been prepared
against him.
