On May 10, a participant in SCJ posted a Yiddish-English Glossary
plagiarized from the copyrighted glossary of rec.humor.jewish. The subject
line was "Mama Loshen".

Below are samples of the two glossaries. Besides the addition of a few
Spanish words, the glossary is identical to RHJ's, including inconsistent
capitalizations.

The copyright of this glossary is owned by the moderators of
rec.humor.jewish. We allow distribution via print, email, and usenet, as
long as our the copyright line and information at the end. The glossary is
the result of a many months of input and research. There is no doubt that
this is covered by US and Canadian Copyright laws and all signatories of
the Berne Convention including South Africa, where the poster seems to
reside. Making additions, deletions, or corrections, does not come under
the heading of permitted use under copyright laws.

While we are flattered that a number of people have complimented us on this
glossary, we are dismayed that our it has been deliberately stolen, and the
the perpetrator has refused to acknowledge his act of plaigerism, offering
a series of ludicrous excuses - such as "Yiddish is Universal" (no … it's
not - and even English, French, Hebrew, etc. dictionaries and glossaries
are covered by copyright), that his mother owns a copyright to RHJ's
Glossary from 1929 (not unless I'm his mother, and I was born *way* before
I thought) and other ramblings which are deliverate attempts at covering
this act.

The next post in this thread will be our glossary - in full - with our
copyright line. We invite everyone to distribute it; just be sure to keep
the paragraphs at the end.
