First Match:
Enjambre (masked - Mexico), Arcangel de la Muerte (masked - Mexico),
Marabunta (masked - Mexico) (heels) vs. Eclipse (masked - Mexico),
Pegaso (masked - Mexico), Guerrero Samurai (masked - Mexico) (faces);
Roberto Rangel and Rafael Almaya (referees); Heels win 2 straight
falls.
Enjambre = Swarm
Marabunta = ? (apparently has no meaning)
Arcangel de la Muerte = Archangel of Death
Eclipse = Eclipse (but pronounced eh-KLEEP-say)
Pegaso = Pegasus
Guerrero Samurai = Samurai Warrior
First Fall: Marabunta forces Samurai to submit to a figure-four
leglock.
Second Fall: Arcangel de la Muerte pins Samurai with a Gotch suplex.
Second Match:
Los Cavernicolas: Cromagnon (Mexico), Troglodita (Mexico), Popitekus
(Mexico) (heels) vs. El Tigre Universitario (masked - Mexico), Aguila
Solitaria (masked - Mexico), Solar II (masked - Mexico) (faces); Rafael
Almaya and Gato Montini (referees); Heels win 2/3 falls.
Bad gimmicks aren't confined to the WWF. Los Cavernicolas come to the
ring with painted faces, carrying bones, and wearing animal skins.
They're supposed to be cavemen. Oh, brother. Popitekus is a long time
bottom-card semi-jobber (kind of a Mexican Steve Lombardi), but this is
the first time I've seen him use this gimmick. I don't know who the
others are.
El Tigre Universitario is supposed to be a young college kid who
wrestles on the side to put himself through school. Right.
Cavernicolas = Cavemen
Cromagnon = Cro Magnon
Troglodita = Troglodyte
El Tigre Universitario = The University Tiger
Aguila Solitaria = Lone Eagle
First Fall: Troglodita pins Tigre after an elbow smash from the top
rope.
Second Fall: Aguila Solitaria pins Popitekus after hitting him with a
cross body plancha from the top rope.
Third Fall: Troglodita and Cromagnon pin both Solar II and Aguila
Solitaria simultaneously.
Third Match:
El Egipcio (Mexico), Emilio Charles, Jr. (Mexico), Supremo I (masked -
Mexico) (heels) vs. Hijo del Solitario (masked - Mexico), Apolo Dantes
(Mexico), Filoso (masked - Mexico) (faces); Rafael Almaya and Roberto
Rangel (referees); Heels win 2/3 falls.
El Egipcio = The Egyptian
Hijo del Solitario = Son of the Hermit
Filoso = Keen or Sharp
First Fall: I missed the ending of this one, but the heels won the
fall.
Second Fall: El Egipcio pins Dantes.
Third Fall: Charles powerbombs Dantes and El Egipcio pins him.
Throughout this fall, Hijo del Solitario looked like he was making a
heel turn because he kept reaching out to tag Dantes, then pulling his
arm back just far enough that Apolo couldn't reach him. He never did
get back into the match. Stay tuned on this one.
Fourth Match:
El Vampiro Canadiense Casanova (Toronto, Canada), Atlantis (masked -
Mexico), Lizmark (masked - Mexico) (faces) vs. Pierroth, Jr. (masked -
Mexico), Javier "Monarca" Cruz (Mexico), Jerry "Puma" Estrada
(Mexico?); Gato Montini and Roberto Rangel (referees); Faces win 2/3
falls.
I always thought Jerry Estrada was Mexican, but the announcers said
something in passing about him being from the US. I'll have to pay
closer attention in the future. I know he's wrestled in the US before.
Note on the Canadian Vampire: The muchachas go absolutely nuts over
this guy. Every time he'd make a move or flex they'd scream like the
girls used to do at Beatles concerts. Weird. As I said the last time he
wrestled on TV, the guy seems to be learning how to wrestle. In this
match he executed several tricky moves, but he doesn't have a clue how
to sell. Give him another year and he could be a star in the WWF - no
kidding.
First Fall: Lizmark pins Cruz.
Second Fall: Vampiro submits to Pierroth's camel clutch.
Third Fall: Lizmark pins Cruz with a power bomb.
