Results:
Match 1: Javier Cruz, Pierroth, Jr., and Blue Panther (heels) vs. Apolo
Dantes, El Dandy, and Black Magic (faces). Roberto Rangel and Gran
Davis (referees) Faces win, 2 of 3.
It looks like Cruz lost a hair vs. hair match in the previous week (I
was on vacation last week and didn't see or tape the matches) because
he's now quite bald.
First Fall: Pierroth opens against Dantes. Dantes wants Cruz, but he
won't come in. As Dantes tries to provoke Cruz, Pierroth blind sides
him, but Dantes quickly turns, drop kicking Pierroth out of the ring.
Dandy enters vs. Blue Panther. The crowd chants Dandy! Dandy! Dandy!
Dandy executes two wild sunset flips on Blue Panther, nearly pinning
him both times. Cruz enters vs. Black Magic. Magic kicks Cruz out of
the ring. Pierroth comes in against Apolo Dantes. No action. Now Blue
Panther vs. Dandy. No action. Finally, Pierroth enters and pins Dantes
after a power slam.
Second Fall: Black Magic opens against Blue Panther. Lots of close
wrestling on the mat to Magic's advantage. Dantes comes in against
Cruz. Dantes clotheslines Cruz, then does a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on
him. Dandy comes in against Pierroth. Dandy does a top rope plancha on
Pierroth, knocking him out of the ring. Everybody comes into the ring
to mix it up. In the ensuing brouhaha, Black Magic pins Blue Panther.
Third Fall: Dandy opens against Pierroth. The crowd chants Dandy!
Dandy! Dandy! No action. Dantes comes in against Cruz. Cruz kicks,
slams into the ring post, kicks in the face, clotheslines, and body
slams Dantes in quick succession. Cruz attempts a top rope plancha, but
Dantes jumps up, grabs him, and throws him head first to the center of
the ring (shades of Lex Luger on Ric Flair). Black Magic enters against
Blue Panther. Magic slams the Panther. Panther climbs to the top turn
buckle to attempt a plancha, but before he can gain his balance, Black
Magic drop kicks him into the crowd. Dandy enters against Pierroth and
immediately puts him in a figure-four leglock. Pierroth manages to
squirm to the ropes and break the hold. At this point, everybody comes
into the ring, and the camera wasn't following the central action very
well. The match ends with Dandy pinning Pierroth with a fancy rolling
cradle. The crowd again chants Dandy! Dandy! Dandy!
Match 2: Brazo, Brazo de Oro, and Brazo de Plata (heels) vs. Atlantis,
Lizmark, and Hijo de ? (faces). Roberto Rangel and El Gran Davis
(referees). Faces win, 2 of 3 falls.
Lots of promotion throughout the program letting us know that we'll
find out who Hijo de ? is today. Before the match, Lizmark "unmasks"
him as Hijo de Lizmark (he's wearing a Lizmark mask under his old Hijo
de ? mask).
First fall: Los Brazos attack the faces just as soon as Hijo de
Lizmark's "identity" is revealed, generally mopping up the floor with
them. Brazo de Plata sits on Lizmark to pin him, then mounts the top
rope and 747s Hijo de Lizmark.
Second fall: Atlantis vs. Brazo de Oro, who immediately tags Brazo de
Plata, who throws Atlantis into the ropes and belly whomps him. Brazo
comes in and does a lot of floor work on Atlantis. Brazo de Plata tags
in. Atlantis mounts the top rope and misses a head first plancha, but
recovers in mid-air, and forward rolls out of it. Atlantis tries to
catapult Brazo de Plata, who recovers in mid-air and lands on his feet.
Everybody enters the ring with general chaos resulting. In a series of
errors, Los Brazos manage to slug one another, miss drop kicks and kick
one another, etc. with Brazo de Plata finally 747ing his two brothers.
The three faces jump on top of the pile for the pin.
Third fall: Brazo opens against Hijo de Lizmark. No action. Los Brazos
miss multiple plancha attempts. Atlantis comes in against Brazo de Oro,
and another comedy of errors ensues, with Plata again 747ing his
brothers by mistake. The brothers fight amongst themselves, throwing
Plata out of the ring. At this point general chaos takes over, with
numerous 3-on-3 pin attempts by the faces. Lizmark does a Riger flip
off the apron onto Brazo de Plata, Hijo de Lizmark plancha flips Brazo
from the apron, and the faces win by countout.
Third match: Mascara An~o 2000, Cien Caras, and Perro Aguayo (heels)
vs. Conan, Vampiro Canadiense, and El Rayo de Jalisco, Jr. (faces).
Robert Rangel and El Gran Davis (referees). Faces win in straight
falls.
Conan has been wearing a silly looking hair weave for several weeks
now. God, does he look goofy!
First fall: The match opens with a 3-on-3 brawl. El Rayo and Cien Caras
trade knee lifts and clotheslines, followed closely by another 3-on-3
brawl. After many uneventful tags, Conan and Perro Aguayo fight into
the crowd, with Perro beginning to juice. The fall ends with the faces
winning by countout.
Second fall: El Rayo makes several matador-like moves on 2000, faking
him over the top rope onto the arena floor. Cien Caras and Perro Aguayo
then gang up on El Rayo for awhile, then there's more 3-on-3 brawling.
The ring clears, and it's Perro Aguayo against Conan. Cien Caras and
2000 hold Conan spread-eagled on the mat while Perro Aguayo mounts the
top corner turnbuckle and jumps off onto Conan's stomach, landing with
both feet (this is a very dangerous move, by the way, and I'm certain
that somebody's going to be severely injured or killed by it one of
these days). Perro Aguayo is *really* juiced by this point. While the
camera was following other action, something happened to cause Cien
Caras and 2000 to turn on Perro Aguayo and begin beating him severely
(smile). Conan goes off on Perro Aguayo as well, at which point Cien
Caras makes a feeble attempt to defend Perro Aguayo. That settled, Cien
Caras goes off on Perro Aguayo again, pummeling him into the third row
of fans. Perro is a real mess by this ti
Match 4: Kato Kung Lee, Super Astro, and El Angel Azteca (faces) vs.
Emilio Charles, Jr., Kung Fu, and Fuerza Guerrera (heels). Roberto
Rangel and El Gran Davis (referees). Heels win in two of three falls.
Because the first 3 matches all ran long (there was only 10 minutes TV
time left when this one began), this was a very well edited version of
a full two of three falls match.
First fall: Emilio Charles got Super Astro to submit to an unnamed
submission hold.
Second fall: Kato Kung Lee runs around on the second rope and pins Kung
Fu.
Third fall: Emilio Charles pins Kato Kung Lee.
Notes on new luchadores:
BLACK MAGIC is an African-American face. He seems to have a lot of
experience with collegiate style wrestling, both Greco-Roman and
freestyle. He's about 6'2" and probably weighs about 230 with about a
28" waist. No body fat at all. A very good *wrestler*, but hasn't
mastered the pro style yet. Has a wide arsenal of suplexes he likes to
use. He likes to flex for the crowd a la Lex Luger, and has a pretty
good body, but probably needs to bulk up a little bit to make it in the
States. Originally came to Mexico to feud with Kamala, but the big guy
only stayed around for about a month before heading off for Japan. Very
promising -- if he can learn to work a little better, he has a chance
to be a star.
HIJO DE ? ("Son of Whom?") turns out to be Lizmark's "son," so will now
be known as HIJO DE LIZMARK (or Lizmark's son). Also looks to be about
6'2" (tall for a Mexican wrestler), well muscled, and very acrobatic.
I've only seen him once, but I'd have to say he's a real comer. A
masked face.
PERRO AGUAYO (roughly "mottled dog") is a veteran heel with a forehead
made for instant juicing (scar tissue to burn). He wears big fuzzy
wrestling boots like the ones Dutch Mantel used to wear. His big move
is jumping off the top rope onto his opponent's abdomen, landing with
both feet. As I wrote above, I'm certain he's going to hurt someone
severely doing this one of these days. Just a slight miscalculation by
either participant in the move and a major abdominal vein or artery is
gonna get ruptured. Anyway, he's not acrobatic, but works the crowd
well and is always entertaining.
KATO KUNG LEE is not Chinese, but Panamanian. Unlike Octagon, he is a
legitimate martial arts expert, and wears a nifty black gi into the
ring. One of his neatest tricks is running full speed along the middle
rope. He starts from the mat, accelerates, and just jumps up onto the
middle rope and starts motoring. He takes about two or three steps, one
step down onto the mat, then vaults back onto the middle rope and takes
two or three more steps *backwards*. While he makes many spinning side
kick "attempts," he never lands them (hard to pull one of those).
Instead, he lands crescent kicks to his opponents' head or boxes them.
Probably a middle weight (he might weigh 170 lbs.), but a real worker
and very acrobatic. A face.
SUPER ASTRO is the most acrobatic wrestler I've ever seen. He's only
about 5'6", but probably weighs 200 lbs. -- he's very muscular, and
boy, can he move. One of his favorite moves is to fake one of those
full speed, head first planchas through the ropes only to hold off at
the last split second, grab the top and middle ropes like the handles
on a pommel horse, and swing out over the crowd then back into the
center of the ring. He has mastered a wide array of very graceful,
acrobatic plancha moves. I really can't begin to tell you how exciting
this guy is to watch. A masked face.
EL ANGEL AZTECA (The Aztec Angel) is a veteran masked face who has a
very impressive feathered headdress he wears to the ring (I guess it's
supposed to be some kind of Aztec thing). A very talented, acrobatic
wrestler who hasn't been seen on the Galavision matches for months. I
don't know if he's been working in the UWA or if he's semi-retired, or
what, but he's always a treat to see.
KUNG FU is bad news. A formerly masked heel, he was unmasked by
Atlantis in a mask vs. mask match about 10 months ago. Their feud was a
real dandy, and still continues to some degree. Kung Fu is Ray Acosta.
He doesn't so much wrestle as kick the shit out of his opponents. Like
Kato Kung Lee, he has real martial arts abilities. Unlike Kato Kung
Lee, he does a *real* good job of making his kicks look real. In fact,
he *convinces* me. During his feud with Atlantis, he rang the masked
man's bell more than once with a boot to the skull and really juiced
him good many times. On several occasions I've thought that he was
shooting, but apparently not, because he was always back the next week.
Nevertheless, his matches with Atlantis looked quite authentic.

Match 1: "Los Infernales" (MS-1, Masakre, and El Satanico) (heels) vs.
Mando, Eddy, and Chavo Guerrero (faces), Roberto Rangel and El Gran
Davis (referees). Faces win, 2/3 falls.
First Fall: Chavo begins against Satanico. Not much happens, and after
numerous tags, Chavo makes Satanico submit to a backbreaker (torture
rack variety).
Second Fall: Mando begins against Masakre who puts a couple of
wrenching headlocks on him, then tags to Satanico, who does the same.
Eddy tags in and Masakre gives him a quick neckbreaker. MS-1 and Chavo
tag in, MS-1 out, Satanico in. Chavo submits to a strange submission
hold which I can't even describe.
Third Fall: Satanico leads off by bulldogging Chavo twice. He tries for
a third, but Chavo throws him off at the last moment and Satanico goes
flying. Chavo then suplexes him and tags out to Eddy. Eddy climbs to
the top turnbuckle and does a backflip cross body plancha on MS-1. Eddy
then misses a drop kick, but quickly recovers and fakes MS-1 over the
top rope onto the arena floor. Eddy then leaps to the top rope and
vaults off onto MS-1. Chavo comes in against Satanico and gives him a
neckbreaker. Masakre and Eddy tag in, and Eddy puts the camel clutch on
Masakre, but MS-1 comes in and breaks it up. Satanico and Mando come
in, and the heels mop up the ring with the faces, winding up in a star
in the middle of the ring. The Guerreros manage to break out and Eddy
drop kicks Masakre from the top turnbuckle. Chavo climbs to the top and
747s Masakre for the pin and victory.
Match 2: El Dandy, Ringo Mendoza, and Apolo Dantes (faces) vs. Los
Canibales (I and II) and Bestia Salvaje (heels), Gato Montini and ?
(referees), faces win in straight falls.
First Fall: Bestia Salvaje starts out against Dantes. No action. Dandy
tags in against Canibal I. Still no action. Ringo tags in against
Canibal II. Nothing happening. Ringo now works against Bestia Salvaje
and trashes him. eventually throwing him out of the ring. The Cannibals
come in and battle the 3 faces, but Bestia Salvaje is counted out.
Second Fall: Chaos: everybody against everybody. Apolo Dantes throws
Bestia Salvaje out of the ring, climbs to the top turnbuckle and
executes a spectacular cross body block plancha on the Savage Beast. At
this point the Cannibals come in and start beating on the faces with
their "bones." Heels are DQd. First time I've ever seen a foreign
object used in a Mexican match.
Match 3: Kendo Nagasaki, Pierroth, Jr., and Pirata Morgan (heels) vs.
Atlantis, Octagon, and Mascara Sagrada (faces), Roberto Rangel and El
Gran Davis (referees), heels win 2/3 falls.
This was a very hot match, one of the best I've seen from Mexico (as
was the match to follow, so stay tuned).
First Fall: Kendo begins against Octagon. While they mix it up in the
ring, El Pirata really smacks Mascara Sagrada's face hard into the ring
post from the arena floor, continuing their feud set up a couple of
weeks ago when their midget counterparts battled in a hair vs. mask
match. Meanwhile, Kendo and Pierroth are mopping up the place with
Atlantis. Eventually, Kendo pins Octagon while he's choking him.
Mascara Sagrada's mask is ripped open, and all 3 men continue to battle
between falls.
Second Fall: Kendo in against Atlantis, then El Pirata and Mascara
Sagrada come in. The Sacred Mask belts Pirata and is pulled off by heel
referee Gran Davis. Pirata takes advantage and smacks Mascara in the
chops. Atlantis comes in and with Mascara, gangs up on Pirata.
Surprisingly, Octagon comes in and soundly thrashes Kendo Nagasaki
(this guy can really mix it up when the booker lets him cut loose). On
the floor, Mascara and Pirata are mixing it up, and Mascara really
bashes Pirata's head into the ring post. As Pirata stumbles around near
the first row ringside seats, Atlantis leaps from the apron onto the
second rope, then does a spectacular back flip plancha onto Pirata,
knocking him several rows into the crowd -- an incredibly stunning
move. In the ring, Mascara Sagrada and Octagon gang up on Kendo and pin
him.
Third Fall: Mascara Sagrada body slams Pirata on the arena floor. In
the ring, Atlantis is battling Kendo and Octagon Pierroth. Pirata
Morgan tries to fall backwards off the top turnbuckle onto the prone
Mascara Sagrada, but Mascara rolls out of the way and Pirata falls hard
on his back. More chaos. Atlantis and Kendo are mixing it up while
Octagon and Pierroth trash one another. Order restored, Octagon goes
against Pierroth, executing a couple of spectacular tosses. Mascara
Sagrada tags in against Pirata. Mascara misses a back flip plancha
attempt from the top turnbuckle and is pinned by Pirata.
After the match, Mascara Sagrada demands a "mano a mano" (one on one)
match against Pirata Morgan. More violence ensues shortly, with all 6
men battling their way through the crowd back to the dressing room.
What a brawl!
Fourth Match: Cien Caras, Perro Aguayo, and Nitron (heels) vs. El
Vampiro (Canadiense) Casanova, Conan, and El Rayo de Jalisco (faces),
Roberto Rangel and El Gran Davis (referees), faces win in straight
falls.
Conan looks sillier than ever with his hair weave now including green
and blue streaks. The heel pairing seemed a strange one after last
week's battle between Cien Caras and Perro Aguayo, and it turned out to
be as strange as it looked it would. Yet another action-packed battle,
one of the best.
First Fall: Cien Caras immediately opens up against Perro Aguayo while
the faces watch. While Cien Caras and Perro Aguayo continue to battle
all over the arena, Conan and El Rayo gang up on Nitron, delivering a
double clothesline. Conan and El Rayo team up to pin Nitron. Cien Caras
and Perro Aguayo continue to beat the shit out of one another both in
the ring and out.
Second Fall: Conan goes off on Cien Caras, Nitron thrashes Vampiro, and
Perro Aguayo helps Conan beat up Cien Caras. Conan then jumps Perro
Aguayo, but Cien Caras pushes him out of the way and jumps the Dog
himself. Meanwhile, Nitron is thrashing the Vampire all over the arena
floor, throwing him into one ringpost after another. While Perro Aguayo
is jumping Conan in the ring, Nitron continues to crush the Vampire on
the floor. Now Cien Caras is all over Perro Aguayo again while Nitron
takes on both El Vampiro and Conan. El Rayo then jumps Nitron while
Cien Caras and Perro Aguayo continue to battle in the ring. El Rayo
pulls Cien Caras off the Dog and throws him out of the ring, jumping
out after him. Meanwhile, Conan has picked up on Perro Aguayo where
Cien Caras had left off, and is beating the crap out of him in the
center of the ring. El Rayo comes back in and pulls Conan off Perro
Aguayo. The Vampire slides off the apron onto Nitron and they mix it up
on the floor for awhile, then Nitron jumps Conan. N
Notes on new luchadores:
MS-1 (pronounced EMay ESay Uno) is a veteran heel, formerly masked.
He's not really much to see. Real name is Pablo Fuentes.
EL SATANICO (the Satanic One, or the Satanist) is Daniel Lopez, a
topflight heel who isn't that spectacular a wrestler, but he works the
crowd really well. He and Atlantis had a real brawl about 6 months ago
in Vera Cruz that went on for an hour (it was a draw). Witnesses say it
was an incredible match.
CANIBAL I and CANIBAL II are North American heels who look like (and
may even be) the Moondogs. They both have long blonde hair and even
longer blonde beards. Both wrestle in jeans, and both have large pot
bellies. They look to be about 6'3" or so and weigh upwards of 270 -
280 pounds. Canibal I has permed hair and a large tattoo between his
shoulder blades (I couldn't make out what it was). They both come to
the ring with big "bones" (probably plastic). The announcers said they
were from Tennessee. Not much wrestling skill, but they can get around,
and both work the crowd really well.
KENDO NAGASAKI is probably well known to most people on the net. He's
an old pro from Japan (probably in his mid-40s) who's been wrestling in
the UK for the past year or so. He now shaves his head, although I seem
to remember than when I last saw him in World Class about 3 years ago
(he was managing Super Black Ninja (aka Great Muta, Keiji Muto)), he
had shaved his head into one of those classic Samurai cuts. Anyway,
he's pretty reliable in the villainous action department and fun to see
again.
NITRON is the same guy who once worked in WCW as Woman's bodyguard. He
is *not* Kevin Nash (:-)). He doesn't have the same buzz haircut he had
in WCW; it's longer now, but still bleached blonde. He wears face paint
and dangly armband things like UW. In all honesty, the guy can't
wrestle worth a damn, but he sure is big. He must be 6'10" or 7' and he
probably weighs 350 lbs. or so -- all muscle. He makes all the other
guys look like midgets in comparison. Actually, he's not a bad brawler,
and he's much, much better in any way you can think of than Hulk Hogan
and probably the equal of the Warrior.
