BBC? Wow, they are powerful, they have extensive legal resources,
fighting them would be extremely expensive as fighting for principle
always is. Note, they can sue whether they have a right to that name
or not. They do that in the US all the time. the point is people are
going to confuse bbc.org with BBC and so thats the concern.

If they sue the people for the name, the people with the name would
have to spend $50,000 in legal defense. I bet they don't have that so,
they have to give up the name for nothing.
Isn't it tempting to put some soft porn on the bbc.org domain space and tell
them you're getting 20,000 hits a week - I reckon they'll soon come up with
some cash....
Speak to you soon

But they may ignore BBC and do nothing. They will have domain and it will be
no problem :). They should give uo their domain if they get document saying
that they have to - probably from court(?).

The BBC is in the business of buying all the domains available with bbc to
stop people trading as them, alot of the domains are never used.
If i was getting emails and letters from the bbc, I would hold out for
payment from them, they will give it as the bbc has an image for being clean
cut and would not want its name draged through the courts and if it was
taken to court they would settle out of court.

Which is "solved" by starting the home page with:
THIS IS THE HOME PAGE OF "BIG BLUE AND
COUSINS".
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE BRITISH BROADCASING
CORPORATION SITE
CLICK HERE ---> WWW.BBB.CO.UK.
Clueless types will then be pointed at the correct location.

I am not sure how America came into this discussion. The conflict is
between a Canadian amateur computer club and a British broadcaster.
