Succubus

The box arrived in the mail on Wednesday while I was

I tried to ask what she meant but couldn't force any
words to come out of my mouth.

Lilith saw that I was trying to say something. "You
may speak now, Jeff. But you must not raise your
voice or leave the couch."

I tested my voice. After a few grunts and squeaks I
was able to speak normally. "What are you doing to
me?"

Lilith smiled coldly. "I'm taking your life of
course. I thought you had figured that out. I'm not
taking it all at once though. That would be murder.
Each time I feed off you life essence, I take another
few months off your life. If you hadn't started
eating that goddamn protein powder, I would have taken
another ten years from you and then left you to die
quietly after another thirty years or so. Now I think
I'll just finish the job."

"I don't understand. What does the protein powder
have to do with anything?"

"Think of it this way, Jeff. Whatever you eat ends up
affecting the life essence that keeps you alive. If
you eat meat or some other unprocessed protein, your
life essence is sweeter and keeps Eve and I fed
longer. The semen that I suck out of you is just a
vessel to hold the essence until I can share it with
Eve. When you eat that processed crap, one load of
semen is barely enough to satisfy my hunger for a
couple hours. It also drains more life out of you.
From your looks this morning, I think the session last
night cost you about ten years. I don't know if you
had any more of that poison this morning but I can't
take the chance that you did. Eve and I will find
another source for today and we'll feed off you again
tomorrow night. That should give that shit time to
work it's way out of your system."

"I won't let you," I protested

"You don't get a say in it, lover," she said
dismissively. "You'll do anything I tell you to.
Stand up."

I stood up immediately.

"Drop you pants and masturbate."

I closed my eyes in humiliation as I started to

"Do you mant me to make you do that again?

"No!" I cried in terror.

"Good. Then listen to me and do everything I say. Go
to the store and buy groceries. Buy enough for a
couple weeks. Make sure you buy high protein foods
and whatever it takes to make them palatable for you."
Lilith paused for a few seconds.

"And don't buy anymore protein powder!" she said
sharply.

After another pause she continued, "Don't worry about
buying anything for Eve and me. We'll live off of
you."

She chuckled nastily.

"I have to go now. I have to find a meal for tonight.
You go clean yourself up and then go get groceries and
take care of your business. I want you rested and
ready for tomorrow night."

Lilith closed my apartment door behind her. I heard
her footsteps fade down the hall.

I whimpered with relief. I went to the bathroom and
washed my hands as I tried to compose myself. When my
hands were steady I went to the bedroom to lie down
but found myself getting dressed instead.

"Shit!" I said aloud. Lilith had told me to go get
food so I had to do that before I did anything else.

I made a list of things to buy. I looked at the glass
at the back of the counter. A little plan began to
take shape in my mind. I had to think it through.

At the grocery store I bought more food than I had
ever done before. As I was standing in line to
checkout I looked towards the customer service desk.
I must have looked at the desk dozens of times in the
past few years. But this time I actually saw the desk
and all the things that they offered.

The sign listed lottery tickets, show tickets, money
orders, and mailing services. They also had a variety
of mailing envelopes and boxes as well as a scale for
weighing parcels. My idea began to come into focus.

As soon as I got home, I put away my groceries. I
made a couple hamburgers for lunch and thought some
more about what I wanted to do. I felt a lot stronger
than I had earlier. I put my dishes in the sink and
got the orange juice bottle from the refrigerator. I
quickly poured some juice into the glass that
contained the protein powder.

My muscles didn't protest at all. I stirred the
mixture and quickly drank it straight down. My hand
threw the glass into the sink before I could stop it.
It was too late though. I swallowed the last bit of
the gritty powder that remained in my mouth.

I wasn't sure how long it would be before Lilith came
backs so I pointed my video camera at my recliner and
adjusted the focus quickly. I sat down and verified
that the camera was focused and adjusted properly.

I turned to face the camera and cleared my throat
before I spoke.

"David, This is Jeff. It's late afternoon. I have to
finish this before Lilith comes back. You'll see why
if you finish watching this tape. I'll mail it to you
as soon as I've told you what happened.

"Please listen to the whole story. I know you'll
think I'm crazy. But I have to try to warn you about
them."

Jeff's story was unbelievable. I watched the whole
tape with growing incredulity. This had to be a
practical joke.

I reached for the phone. I wasn't sure if I should
scold him or congratulate him. I had been sucked in
by the joke at the beginning but the last part had
been just too much over the top.

Jeff's phone rang once before it was picked up.

"Hello," said a voice on the other end. I was
startled. The voice was not Jeff's

"Is this the Olsen residence?" I asked.

"Yes. Who's calling please?"

"This is Dave Olsen. I'm Jeff's brother. Who is
this?" I was getting a little irritated.

"Just a minute, sir." That sir made me very uneasy.

There was a slight bang as the receiver was put down
on some hard surface. I could hear several voices in
the background. Finally the phone was picked up.

"This is Detective Sanchez. I understand that you are
Jeff Olsen's brother." The uneasiness was replaced by
a very hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach.

The next half-hour was a nightmare. I gave the
detectives the name of our family dentist so that they
could get Jeff's dental record. Detective Sanchez
wouldn't tell me why they were needed. He also asked
hundreds of questions about Jeff and Jeff's friends in
California. I answered as best as I could but really
didn't know very much. He did tell me that I could
claim Jeff's body in a few days.

When I got off the phone with the detective, I called
a funeral home and started arranging to get the body
shipped back to Minneapolis.

My wife came home just as I finished and I explained
everything starting with my phone call to Jeff. I
casually put the tape back in its box and threw it in
my desk drawer.

The whole next week was a blur. I managed to get Jeff
back to Minnesota and arrange a funeral but cannot
remember any of it. It was a relief to return to
work.

I arranged to meet my best friend Steve for lunch on
my first day back at work. I was about to tell him
the whole story of Jeff starting with the videotape.
He cut me off before I got started.

"Dave, you'll never guess what happened to me last
weekend," said Steve excitedly. "I met the most
fantastic woman. She just moved into my apartment
building. Her name is Lilith and she has the cutest
little daughter named Eve. I've never met anyone who
captured my heart as fast as she did."

A chill ran down my spine.
