I always liked Blue Devils opener in 1996.

I'll never forget the first time I saw them that year. My wife
(girlfriend, at the time) and I were on staff with a small Division 3
corps. We went to a DCI show somewhere in BFE mid-west, and we caught
up with a good friend of ours on Kiwanis Kavaliers' staff. We got down
on the track as BD was setting up, and she 'warned' us that the opener
might be a little loud.
DAMN she was right! Hearing those opening notes blasting as we stood a
little in front of their DM's podium. I think my ears are still
ringing!!

I also loved BD's opener in 92, SCV 92 (ah...Tradition...)Kiwanis in
'96, pretty much every SCV show I ever saw live...I guess there are a
ton! Those are a couple that stick out in my mind, though.

Well, maybe I don't go far enough back as alot of you here, but I've
never had my hair stand up on end, nor have I ever seen a standing
ovation as loud - FOR A WARM UP- as in 1992 finals when SCV did Music

The most musical, spirited and exciting off the line that I recall is
"Hallelujah Trail"
by the Troopers in 1966. It is from the comedy film by the same name that I
recommend highly.

Let me guess - I'll bet it was arranged by Mike Duffy! Sorry Mike, I didn't
mean to slight you
but I didn't remember that. Congratulations - it was a spectacular
arrangement of a great number
brilliantly performed.

Yeah, I liked it a lot too: saw them do it live in Wichita.

While still in Illinois I got the big HS band I was working with to use it
as an opener, though a longer version than Troopers. The 5/4 part provides a
nice contrast... and which meter was quite unusual back when Casper did it.

It turns out that Mr. Duffy was just pulling my chain. He now advises me
that
Bob Bunce did the arrangement of "Hallelujah Trail" and Sam tells me that
the Troopers
performed it in '67. Oh well - it is still the greatest Off the Line I have
ever heard.

Thanks guys for keeping me honest.
