It co-exists here with no problems. 2.1 dec beta, a no-name 386SX
motherboard, Opti chipset, and only traps I get are 0002's (parity
errors), and I already located the flaky SIMM :)

A friend of mine was unable to install OS/2 AT ALL on his 486DX-33 with Opti
chipset, and AMI bios. We tried every BIOS setting, swapped every other
piece of hardware, but it just wouldn't boot, even from my hard disk with OS/2
installed.
He now runs Linux instead, no problems.

I have a 486DX-33 with an OPTI chipset and an AMI bios -- it works fine
with all the versions of OS/2 that I've used, including the 2.1b beta. The
distributor who sold it to me uses OS/2 himself and has it up on his demo
machines: the 486DX-33 I bought, a 486DX-33 Vesa local bus, and a 486DX2-66
Vesa local bus. They all have OPTI chipsets.

I've got 4 machines - 386DX-40's - with the Opti WB chipset running
GA+SP with no problems. The only thing I had to do that really saved
my great amounts of agony was to ensure that the wait states on the
bus were set to 1 so that I get an effective 8MHz on the bus. The Opti
comes set up for 10MHZ. This exceeds the AT bus spec of 8MHz and caused
me lots of the same types of problems mentioned earlier. This occurred
mostly due to some cards I had in the machine(s) that wouldn't reliably
work at 10MHz and gave OS/2 fits.

Hello, Juha...
Can u quote me a list of descriptions which describe diff types of Traps
err for OS/2?

I am running OS/2 2.1 December beta on a 33Mhz 486 with AMI bios, and the
Opti chipset. I have absolutely no problems.

OK, here's a few Traps to chew on - I've been getting these on some PS/2
model 50's with AOX 386 cards, and an IDE hard drive and adapter running
alongside the original 20mb HD & adapter:
Trap 0720
8b55
45c7
... and a few other strange codes that I can't remember offhand...
Any clues... ;-)
(For the curious:
The kernel & drivers are loaded from drive C: (original, 20mb) and the
remainder of the OS/2 code is relocated to D: along with LAN code & all else
except Desktop Directory structure. A convoluted system, to be sure - but
it is the only way it works...)
