saturday

this year's saturday excursion was the most fun and successful out of
any cons (even the ones I didn't attend). The city museum is basically
a big kids playground (and i do me both). the first floor was a
surreal setting of feathered ceilings, oversized fowl (so much so that
you could walk right up its anus), and a network of dark and scary
caves. the real fun part was all the stuff you can climb into outside.
it was a jungle gym made up of catwalks, old airplanes and firetrucks,
steel plating, and lots of wire mesh. i had to make sure i didn't look
down. there was also a ferris wheel, but i don't think anyone rode it.
we all made sure to slide down the three story slide at least three
times. plus there was a kick ass toy exhibit featuring transformers,
Aliens, Godzilla atacking Tokyo, and perhaps the most impressive
display of Star Wars figures and spaceships i have ever seen. i
couldn't help but drool.

we got back to the hotel and I napped for a few hours. when i returned
to the suite, christopher, kat and gwendolyn had arrived. I had not
seen gwendy since she was three months old, and she has grown into the
cutest lil thing. she's very playful and sociable and very well
behaved. korenstopher are the kick ass parents, and nick and kat kick
ass as well as her "supporting parents" (for lack of a better term).

it was soon time to get ready for the dinner/dance. we were up on the
13th floor in the D banquet room. there was a wedding reception in the
A room, but it was on the other side and far enough away from our
action. nice buffet of pasta and a killer chocolate fondue. everyone
looking very stylish, including John in his leather pants, Hyoun in a
tux and monster heels, keith in his moomoo, and aimee, koren and
fastrada looking gothtacular! Rupert and I attempted to dim the lights
for the dance, but we didn't make the room too dark cause we didn't
want gwendy to be scared.

after just two songs, the music stopped, and I'm like going "what's
up?" i turned around and I see both aimee and realjason on one knee -
he to lisa and her to rupert. I did know that they were planning on
proposing to them, but i had no clue it would be at the con. i had to
laugh when the spandal ballet came on to mark the occasion, but it was
soon abruptly interrupted by an awesome cover of Kate Bush's "Running
Up That Hill", and the con dance started proper. i did my fair share
of dancing, but i spent a lot of time catching up with Jess, John and
Christopher. oh, and also watching fastrada dance. i was reminded that
the first memory i have of fastrada was noticing her dancing at the
Denver con. just like it was back then, it's really something you
*can't* stop watching. it's not to be missed.

everyone was pretty much danced out by midnight. after showering, i
met up with everyone back at the suite. at this point, christopher,
out of the blue, wondered out loud, "how much it would cost for JB to
give me a lap dance?" and for some reason, i thought "what the fuck"
and decided to roll with it. so I proposed that if everyone were to
raise $100 to help bail out the con, i would do it - provided that no
pics be taken. everyone rushed to their pocketbooks and their rooms to
raise the money. after a few minutes we collected $107. It was
showtime. I made christopher put his hands over his head, and
commenced with the lapdance which only lasted prolly 2 minutes. after
a few typical moves, i went for the comedy and did swimming motions.
the crowd roared with laughter and approval.

this put everyone right in the mood for an "I Never" game in which
christopher and becky discovered a mutual attraction, which apparently
was explored further soon afterwards during another after-hours pool
excursion. fastrada and I decided to go up and soak our sore bodies in
the hottub. and i have to say if you thought her dancing was a lovely
sight, her in just her undies was very drooltacular for everyone who
got to see her! ;) we only stayed for a short while, and then we both
left once everyone started getting naked for the second night in a
row. of course she and i kept up our con tradition of staying up til
sunrise chatting away. in bed at 6. alarm going off at 7. i unplug the
bastard after the second alarm five minutes later.

sunday

we got up in time to make the brunch up on the 13th floor. lots of
bacon. a mountain of bacon. bacon bacon bacon!!! did i mention there
was bacon at the brunch?

Jess conducted the final bidding for the auction, politely threatening
anyone who bid on anything angela had the high bid on. aimee and keith
played game show hostess with the auction items with keith making up
various bacon jokes for each item. we were all very silly about bacon.
the bacon jokes will never die. live with it.

i picked up one of the Herb Lehnard prints (the Merman one - no one at
the con wanted the really creepy I Can't See NY one), the Boys for
Pele songbook (thus completing my collection - i'm not buying any
post-pele songbooks) and a UTP-era promo-8x10.

there was some heaping to be had and some more catching up along with
some early farewells. about 8 of us who were left had a late
afternoon dinner at the sports-bar/restaurant in the hotel. everyone
chimed in about how great the con was and that we really don't want
this to be the last one. and it may not be the last one. it sounds
like a lot of thought will be put into how we do these in the future.
aimee had mentioned that if this one was successful (and in many ways
it was), that she would like to make STL a semi-permanent home for the
con. we have a hotel that is willing to host us again, and enough
people locally to keep it organized. i must say again (if i haven't
already) that Koren did a real kick ass job as organizer. she kept her
cool and made sure everyone had a great time.

sadly all cons must come to an end. by early evening, koren and nick
were asleep in their room, and it was just the locals and john in the
suite. after watching the simpsons i made my exit and rode the train
back home and back to normal life.

it's almost thursday, and i'm still feeling the after-effects. hell, i
want to do this again this weekend! it wasn't quite like the other
cons, but to me it was the most special, the most intimate, and
ultimately the most memorable.
