up after 11. group trip for breakfast at denny's off hampton ave. sat
in the middle getting caught up over two different conversations,
hence the quote from hyoun about me getting caught up in the world of
contact lens sex. keith decorated a placemat with very rude taglines,
mostly regarding spooge.
back to the hotel and then hearding everyone on the metrolink to the
trip up to the delmar loop. this was on the hotest day of the year to
date. after a stop for bottled water at the very smelly corner
quick-stop, most of us made an unsuccessful attempt to clothes shop. i
found a velvet shirt, but it was a lil too small and too bright a
shade of blue, so i settled for what i brought with me to wear at the
dance. fastrada found koren a cheep but sparkly pair of boots. we then
all ended up at vintage vinyl where i bought the Giles, Giles and
Fripp "Bronsebury Tapes" CD.
dinner at Blueberry Hill. the hostess said it would be an hour wait
for two separate tables, but we only waited a half-hour at the bar,
and we had one big table. while fastrada was admiring the very purple
alanis poster, i was agast that they had both the first issues of
"Fantastic Four" and "Amazing Spider-Man" hanging on the wall with the
colors faded from all the sunlight. there were two murals of covers -
one for Marvel and one for CD - all silver age. and by comparison with
DC's silly cover scenarios, it's made clear that Marvel had the
superior product. but enough of my comic soapbox. for once we were not
the loudest party in the restaurant, as a man with a really bad toupee
was being very boisterous and at one point led his dining party to a
sing-a-long. it was very much a "Ghost World" moment for me.
train back to hotel. me, keith and hyoun hit the pool followed by
aimee, jason and adam. the con is about the only time i get to swim in
a pool or sit in a hottub. then back to the suite for a few drinks.
refreshingly, no one got really stupid-drunk this weekend.
Lisa, with either her feminine whiles or jedi mind tricks, was able to
get someone from hotel security to unlock the pool room after hours
for a midnight swim for the con guests. i didn't feel much in the mood
for hijinks, so i stayed behind with fastrada and robert and we did
some songlist planning for the saturday dance.
little did we know that most everyone who was at the pool ended up
naked. even keith. he kept hinting for weeks on end before the con
that he was going to streak. i'm sure damian is prolly crying right
about now reading about this. ;)
at some point, hotel security discovered them and politely threw them
out without even batting an eye at all the nakedness. aimee is
convinced that security cameras were recording the whole thing, and i
wouldn't be surprised to see everyone on one of Channel 4 Exclusive
"Caught On Tape" stories that they run during sweeps.
my mind is blanking out on how friday night ended. this might have
been the night we were coming up with many uses of the dental dam -
some of which is documented in fastrada's livejournal.
more later. prolly not til tomorrow night, though.

(VERY LARGE SNIP)
OK. This was..... a Tori con? What did any of that have to do with Tori at
all? Nothing? You gathered at a hotel, drank, swam naked, and generally
acted like animals/children (does that surprise me?) And this is a...
Toricon? Unless you've left out large swaths of very critical Tori-related
happenings.
To your credit, you called it "the con", which is very apt since the Big Lie
is that it has anything to do with Tori whatsoever. Why don't you instead
call it RMTACON? After all, this group rarely has anything to do with Tori
whatsoever, so that would fit perfectly. So to summarize: your posts with
many, many paragraphs, and all other posts about the "Toricon", are simply
yet another big waste of space having nothing to do with Tori, and
everything to do about you meeting up with people from this NG to act like
morons.
You know, I have no problem with you having such a meaningless gathering, or
posting about it here. What I do have a problem with is how you STEAL the
name "Toricon" and attach it to your little off-topic gathering. When it
comes right down to it, you are wrongfully using Tori's name, and taking the
title "Toricon" away from an actual potential Tori-related gathering. Of
course, whether many people here, posters and lurkers alike, would actually
be interested in attending such a gathering I tend to doubt. So it's just
yet another injustice I rail against while no one cares a whit.
You'd have to have more than one dead body and several animals before
hotel staff starts to bat an eye. These guys see it all every night.
you misspelled "what the hell does this have to do with tori amos?!?"
hth. hand.

unlike NINcon, the title ToriCon is not trademarked, so others could
legally use the name, although to my knowledge there aren't any other
conventions related to tori. maybe you should start one. as for stealing
tori's name, tori and her people are aware of the con's existence, and the
official archive run by her father collects ToriCon memorabilia. RAINN
also seems to think we're kosher, considering that we've raised tens of
thousands of dollars for them since 1996.
and no, we don't sit around at panel discussions about tori at ToriCon.
but there are usually at least a few tori songs played at the dance, and i
suppose the conversation sometimes veers in that direction. but tori is
the appetizer at our cocktail party, as she herself has put it. tori is
our connection, and we obviously love her work, but we're not obsessed
and i think she's ok with that. if you want torelevance, check out the
auction, which is pretty heavily dominated by tori collectibles and
artwork. you can't bid anymore, but the final bids are still listed at

so we had a good time without you. why does that bother you so much?

We are suffering under a great injustice!
Oh, wait, you're not talking about Ansel Adams' photographs from a
Japanese-American internment camp in California during WW2?

Of all of the things in this world to get your knickers knotted about, you
choose this one and apply the word 'injustice' to it? Does it occur to
you that using this word in such a way cheapens it?
/nm
Apparently you have some particular hatred of this country where you feel
obligated to point out its failings while ignoring the failings of others?
The Japanese committed plenty of atrocities as well. As did the Vietcong,
etc. But now we've flown entirely off topic since it has nothing to do with
Tori. Unless I mentioned American Indians perhaps.

Not after reading what went on at this "Toricon"...
yes, because of all the atrocities in the history of the world, the very
worst is a social convention where there was a pillow fight and some
platonic skinny-dipping.
gee, i feel like such an asshole. :)

think of how I feel! particle man's extremist stance makes my ramblings
sound rather pedestrian and redundant.
back to the drawing board, eh?

Oh, don't worry, Richard. We still think you're worse than Hitler.

Actually, the reason that I mentioned that specific exhibit was because it
was the first thing that came up when I did a Google search on the word
'injustice'. I wasn't about to attempt to get into a laundry list of the
possible injustices in this world. My point was simply that, on such a
list, the use of 'ToriCon' for this gathering is rather low.

That's nice, but by that logic, let's not all waste any more time doing
things like listening to music and posting on newsgroups and go out and save
the planet?

oh, honey, that's not true! you're still quite irrational, it's merely
a matter of scale. and remember how you once compared me to hitler? see?
you're not doing so poorly. and you're still my favourite psuedo-troll.
