What show would you march?

Ok, i was thinking. forget loyalties, forget where you marched. if you
had a choice as to what show you could march, what show would it be? of
course, you can name your show if it was just plain B.A., but what else
and why?

i would love to have marched...

1991 Phantom Regiment....the split in front of the BARITONE
line...(whew!)

1993 Star of Indiana....several reasons; 1 . great musically, marching-
wise, 2 . last star show (hopefully until the year 2000), 3 . because of
its unconventionalness. is that a word?

those two pretty much top the list (of course there are more, just those
two for now)

Anyone else?

Speaking as one of the "Orgy Squad" (which is what we referred to
ourselves as), that was a GREAT and FUN show to march.

I would have liked to marchit, but seeing as to how Phantom 1993
was my favourite year marching, I wouldn't have traded what we did at PR
for what Star did. Still, Star 1993 was a great show.

I sure as hell wish I could have marched 1996, not because PR won
DCI, but because that was the show I always begged Dan Farrel to do with
Phantom. I remember after the 1992 season, the back of the horn bus took
it upon ourselves to heave a list of "demands" at the staff. Among them
were:

1. More sleep, no more 3 hour nights right before a 10-hour practice.
2. Better and more difficult warm-ups.
3. Start cleaning the show earlier than 2 weeks before DCI.
4. Shostakovich V!!!!!!
5. No more meatloaf! Ever!!! (You had to be there...)

I must have bugged Dan about it for 3 years non-stop. At the 1996
Finals, he came up to me with a barely suppressed grin and said "I guess
you were right."

65 Royal Airs simply because they were the best corps ever, closely

differennt, 82 Bridgemen and/or 92 VK.

My three choices are

1) 1989 Phantom Regiment - My favorite show of all time.

2) 1996 Phantom Regiment - I should of been there. I marched 94 and vowed to
be back in 96, but couldn't come up with the money. And we all know what
happened... but I was glad to at least be on the field to celebrate with my
friends, both present and former members.

3) 1988 Velvet Knights- don't ask me why! Their hornline were great that
year, and the show was both entertaining and demanding. I just watched 88
last night for about the millionth time! Love it!

I was watching my 1988 DCI tape last night (again!) and on it, Gail royer
mentions the 65 Royal Airs as his favorite show of all time, before the 87
SCV. Perhaps someone (Frank) could tell me what was so good about this show?
What did they play? And why do so many people hold it in such high regard?

Just trying to expand my old-timer knowledge :)

Where or When

What was so special---well from the recordings I've heard, it was
probably the greatest hornline to date, and for many years after.
They were THE standard--even into the 70's and 80's..heck, even today!
The brass parts were quite difficult---played on one-valves, no
rotars, just one valves.
Truman Crawford was their brass guy--great soloists---several current
Kilties were in that corps.
They won the "big 3 Nationals" that year--VFW, Legion and CYO, the
first corps to do that.
They are just one of my "I'm not worthy" corps and always will be!

Do you have any grooves left on that piece of vinyl? You know that it's
been re-issued on CD, right? It's amazing that State of the Art is
approaching 20 years old and it's still the best drumcorps recording

I guess I should try to explain why I would love to march these shows...
largely, I love a good horn line, and I love the product that they put on
the field. Seems like there's definitely a pattern, though. Sometimes, I
kinda wish I could have been part of that year's adventure.

Kevin - It was amazing to be a part of that contra section... sooooo much
talent... It was definitely an honor to age out as part of that LINE! ...
and with you and Harry.. :-)

okay...i would have loved to have marched w/ the following, lol :

MS '95 (lol impossible considering my gender)

okay that was all i can think of..lol i only remember drum corps shows from '89
and on even though the 1st one i went to was in '92...how could you not have
wanted to march the Phantom of the Opera show?! i love the music even though
ive never seen it..im even trying to get my winterguard instructor to do it for
our show..but i think we are goin w/ titanic theme! :0) g/g cya!

that CBC played all that rock and roll
with the trap sets, etc (1989 or 90?).
That would have been a fun show to do.
