A number of people have asked me for more info about retreats at
Dai Bosatsu Zendo (DBZ), so rather than replying individually I
thought I'd post what I have. I copied all this from the 1994
schedule pamphlet that DBZ sent me - for more info contact them.

The Catholic church teaches that if you unknowingly receive the
sacraments from a priest who has not had confession and therefore
has sins "on the books," your sacrament is not invalid as long as
you have done your part correctly.

It bothered me for a long time that this place seemed so commercial
at times, especially that they have set prices for visits and that
they have a "Monastery Store" catalog, but I have, I hope, progressed
in my practice to where I realize that, like everything else, it's
all illusion.

I have been to DBZ several times, and to my mind the practice I
encountered there was real, and these other things are truly of no
consequence. I'm no master, but I have had some experience in this
area. Life at DBZ may be somewhat luxurious vs. what one's
preconceived notions about a monastery might be, but that doesn't
invalidate the practice.

I'm not advertizing for DBZ; my only connection with them is that
I have visited there. I'm just providing information. Your mileage
may vary.
