I thought newsgroups weren't for my favorite star,
Were for other acts but not for him.
But I want to get one.
That's the way it is.
Disappointment shouldn't haunt this dream.

When he gets his newsgroup,
I'll be a believer.
Not a chance,
Of doubt in my mind.
If I'm in luck,
Yeah,
I'll be a believer.
And you can help me,
If you try.

Hello Monkees fans!

I am trying to start a newsgroup for a big favorite of mine, Neil Diamond,
alt.music.neil-diamond. I hope he will forgive me if he ever finds out I mangled the
words to one of the biggest hits he ever wrote, "I'm a Believer". Of course, you know
he wrote that one. And of course he also wrote one of the Monkees' other big hits, "A
Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You". Plus he wrote "Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)", which
was on their second alburm, and "Love to Love", which didn't see wide release until
several years after it was recorded. (I have it on the big box set from Rhino.)

If you are also a Neil Diamond fan, and you are interested in helping to start the Neil
Diamond newsgroup, please respond to my posting at alt.config.

For your convenience, here is the text of my proposal. However, since I realize that
this is a newsgroup devoted to the Monkees, I don't think it's appropriate to discuss it
here. Please go to alt.config or send me e-mail.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I would like to propose the newsgroup: alt.music.neil-diamond

Neil has had a long and successful career - 30 years since his first hit record. He is
currently on a worldwide tour to promote his latest album, "Tennessee Moon", and he is
still filling the big arenas. In fact, he has performed multi-night stands in big
cities such as Chicago and Philadelphia on this tour. A new multi-CD set, covering his
big hits on all record labels and including some unreleased material recorded over the
years, is scheduled to be released later this month. The title is "In My Lifetime".

There are currently at least six sites on the World Wide Web devoted to Neil Diamond.
Although some of these sites have fan forums, their maintenance depends on the busy
schedules of their WebMasters, so they are not always up-to-date. It would be nice to
have a place where active discussions of Neil Diamond could take place.

Several acts who have fans with similar demographics as Neil's fans have active
newsgroups. These acts include Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow, Gordon Lightfoot, Billy
Joel, Paul Simon, and the Monkees.

I would anticipate the following subjects being among those discussed on
alt.music.neil-diamond:

1. Reactions to his live concerts (current tour and past ones, as well as future ones,
since I hope this newsgroup lasts a long time).
2. Reactions to "In My Lifetime", "Tennessee Moon", and other Neil Diamond recordings.
3. Discussions of Neil Diamond collectibles.
4. Whether or not Neil should receive certain accolades and awards (such as election to
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame).
5. Questions about various aspects of Neil's life and career, and their answers, if
known.
6. The inevitable gossip concerning Neil (after all, he's single again).

But I'm sure that there will be other topics, too.
