So for those of you who want an early start, here is a page on my web-site
devoted to the song:
http://web.ripnet.com/~nimmos/auld_lang_syne.html
Now you can have it well-memorized before Hogmanay arrives! Non-Scots
may wish to look up Hogmanay in the dictionary! :-)

What tunes do we play for Festivus?
Bill Mac Dhaibhidh
Very timely advice but och.........my wee brother just loves to work hard
!....why memorize a tune you might use once a year?.........here's a
"hint".......
copy Wee Stewartie's music...throw it on the photocopier and reduce it
(twice) down to about 4inches square.........cut the page to about 4 inches
square and put a couple of layers of tape around the edges(to strengthen
it).......put several more pieces of tape along the bottom to further firm
it up and thicken the bottom a wee bit more...........pull your blowstick
out of it's stock a tiny wee bit.......shove the bottom of the music into
the crack and push the blowstick back in to grab and hold it...........now
just blow up your pipes, cross your eyes and read the music as you play!
(I got this hint from a grade 2 band that apparently uses it when "time is
short"!)

You a poet now?
Hes a poet, and he didnt even know it.

Hogmanay is the Scot's New Year. Until relatively recently (ie my parents
lifetime) it far exceeded the importance of Christmas in the Scottish calendar.
Probably a hangover from the Reformation. The basic idea is that you drink lots
of alcohol, wait till midnight, do some shouting, sing Auld Lang Syne, then
drink lots more alcohol. Pipers are frequently involved, no doubt attracted by
the (often free) alcohol.

Not my hint wee brother.......I got it from an ex P/M of a well respected
grade 2 band !
