"George is currently experiencing a problem with his arm so he will be
leaving the European tour early so it can heal properly. Jim Keltner
will be replacing him for the remainder of the tour."

Good luck to George for a swift recovery. I thought he was a wonderful
drummer and a stylish presence with the band. Keltner should do well, also.

I've been enjoying Receli a lot; it's a shame and I wish him well. Though if
he had to be replaced, I can't imagine anyone I'd rather hear than Keltner.

I wonder what impact this will have on the setlists. Looking forward - even
more than usual - to hearing the reports from tonight's show.

My favourite too, Keltner's done some great work in the studio with Bob, but
I think his contributions to the live band are even greater.
Never thought I'd get to be in the audience when Bob & Jim are playing
together, it'll be great to hear how Tony & Jim work together.

Too bad. Depending on how fast a learner Jim is, we'll be back to the same

Mark my words, George will be back as soon as he is healthy!!

Jim Keltner is one of the greatest drummers in rock music today. He should
be able to step right in and do any song, along with the fact he was Bob's
regular drummer for 3 years.

Here's a Keltner discography available on the web... the guy has played on
more albums than most people have listened to.

A brilliant back-to-back pairing on this is from 1980, when he played on
Dylan's "Saved" and Sesame Street's "In Harmony."

Yeah, OK, but what has he done recently? ;-/

Keltner is probably the best drummer available for Dylan, who wants someone
who follows him, whether he wants someone who plays just a simple beat, or if
he wants someone to play something more complicated. Anyway, many fans find
the 1979-81 era, when already-veteran Keltner was Bob's drummer, as his best
live era, and that should be enough to make most of you comfortable with
tonight's choice. Keltner is not a flashy drummer, but he's extremely good.
Please direct any further complaints at the box office.

Oh I don't think so. Jim Keltner can sit in with anyone, plus he's
got live Bob experience. Nevermind that it was 22 years ago now, but
he's so damn good that he can handle it, which obviously Bob knows
too. Keltner's the man. I saw him a few years back on one of those
Ringo tours, and he just plays his shit with a shaker in his hands
alon with the stick. He didn't even look at anyone for cues. That
won't be the case on this tour with Bob now, but he can handle it,
probably so well that ol' Bob may cough up the bucks to keep him
around for a while.

"In the Summertime" would be real nice. I think "Gonna Change My Way of

I think that George was REAL good and hasn't been getting enough
credit...hope he feels better soon.

Of course, Keltner is great. Glad he was able to step up. Hope you
folks in Europe will enjoy!!

It was less than 22 years ago, Keltner was the drummer for the Wilburys, did
the Great Music Experience, and was the drummer for more than half of Time
Out Of Mind.

He played on one of Neil Finn's (formerly of Crowded House and Split Enz)

so thanks for the information.

I was looking forward to George Receli, as I plan to see the British
shows, but hey ... I am not complaining. I have not seen Jim Keltner
since my first Bob date in Cincinnati on Nov. 5th 1981. Now that Bob
will have the original drummer of "Shot of Love" on stage, it sure
increases the chance for a live debut of "Property of Jesus".

Wasn't he the 2nd drummer for a lot Bobfest in '92 as well? I'd love to see
him with Bob again!

first of all, Receli is still there. I guess we all know what happened
with Kenny, but I think this time things might be different. a)
Because the rule doesn't seem to apply to drummers. Both Ian Wallace
and now apparently Jim keltner DID come back. nd b) I think the choice
of Jim indicates that Bob is looking for a *temporary* replacement.
Keltner's still very much in demand as a session musician and I can't
see him hit the road for 9 months out of 12. If they had chosen Brady
Blade (who I thought was fun to watch in Frankfurt), things might have
been different, but as long as it's "only" Keltner replacing him, I
don't think Receli would have to worry. Just my $0.02.

wow, i think we found the music equivalent of Kevin Bacon, only
instead of 6 degrees of freedom, i think Jim can cut everybody's
path down to 3!

is he going to fit under dylan's salary cap?

normally id say yes since hes garniers friend, which would
protect him. but keltner is bobs friend. tony cant go there.
im sure keltner can stay as long as he pleases, though i dont
think he has any interest in being the full time drummer.

Exactly. This is indeed the key point. Keltner could have had the gig many
times over if he'd have wanted it. But he wasn't interested in being out on
the road that much. I'm guessing he's just filling in as a favor to Bob,
left unexpectedly drummerless mid tour.

Only for a short term, I would venture to suggest.
