I didn't bother to look up the answers to these, so I am expecting to be
graded. Wouldn't want to be spreading misinformation on the net.

The same day the "Day of Second Impact" CD was released in Japan.

> Q2: Which beer does Misato drink?

Chibi-light?

> Q3: What are the white and black moons?

The white moon is the one we all know and see. The black moon is the
cavern in the earth which comprises the NERV facility; it is also the
Egg of Lilith.

> Q4: Which Angel was "Lilin"?

Kaoru?

> Q5: What car does Misato drive?

I DO know this one. Renault Alpine A310. She has two, actually, one
which is right-hand drive with an electric motor, and one left-hand
drive, with a gas engine.

> Q6: How big is the Geofront?

About the same size as the Genesis Device cavern in 'Wrath of Khan'?

> Q7: When in Hayashibara Megumi birthday?

The same day as Ayanami Rei's.

> Q8: Who or what is Ayanami named after?

A member of the production design crew.

Trick question -- he didn't lose an arm.

Yebisu then Boa

Dang, haven't seen EoE in a while and I know it's discussed there. Can't
recall.

> Q4: Which Angel was "Lilin"?

Okay, I know Lilith and I know Lilim. Lilith is the 2nd and Lilim (humans)
are VERY ARGUABLY the 18th, but I don't suscribe to that theory.

> Q5: What car does Misato drive?

Oh! Oh! Iknowthisiknowthis...Alpine! (Used it in the High Noon Symphony.)
SOMETHING Alpine, anyway. Can't remember the company, unfortunately.

> Q6: How big is the Geofront?

*whistles* No clue.

> Q7: When in Hayashibara Megumi birthday?

Uh...same as Rei's, I'd imagine. ^_^;; Or Yui's.

> Q8: Who or what is Ayanami named after?

I'd imagine a Japanese naval ship, like most of the names. I remember she
was given the first name "Rei" both as a pun on "Zero" and to try to get a
certain staff member who had worked on BSSM.

> Q9: Which arm did Touji lose when Unit-03 was destroyed?

*figures the image in her head* Wait... He didn't lose an arm! He lost
his...right? leg!

Fanfic questions are unfair. >_<

That was fun.

"The White moon is a cavity in the Arctic where Adam was found (by the
Katsuragi expedition). In the redone episode 21 we see a subterranean scan
of the Arctic which shows the White Moon. The Black Moon is the Geofront
(where the Pyramid and NERV reside). The white moon is where Adam was found,
and the Black Moon is where Lilith was found (though never stated, it is a
logical assumption), the Black Moon has also been called "Lilith's Egg" in
the EoE movie."

Neither. He lost a leg, not an arm.

Yebisu. She's also been known to drink Boa.

The Black Moon is the Geo Front where Lilith was found and where NERV
headquarters is. The White Moon is where Adam was found in the
Antarctic.

>Q4: Which Angel was "Lilin"?

The 18th... Mankind.

A Renault Alpine... um, can't remember the number.

Pass.

Pass.

A WWII Fubuki-class Japanese destroyer, sunk 1944 in the battle of the
Solomons. The name literally translates as 'wave pattern'.

>Q9: Which arm did Touji lose when Unit-03 was destroyed?

Depends on who you ask. Officially, he didn't lose an arm, but many
fics presume he list his left one because you couldn't see it when
Hikari visited him.

>Q10: In which fanfic was Rei given a puppy?

Pass.

It's actually 6km x 6km - it's just filled up most of the way with
rocks and dirt - it is stated as being a perfect sphere...

Who or what was the ship named after then? I have been trying to find
out if 'Ayanami' is (or ever has been) actually a surname used by
Japanese people...

13th September, 2000

> Q2: Which beer does Misato drink?

From the FAQ:

3.3.2 Beer and coffee facts
---------------------
The name of Misato's beer was changed to Yebichu when it was
aired on TV and then to Yebisu for the Video release. Boa Beer
and it's brand name "Kuroshio Bussan" are references to the Boa
Juice from "Sora Tobu Yurei Sen" a 1969 SF anime movie.

> Q3: What are the white and black moons?

From the FAQ:

4.3.2 What are the white and black moons?
-----------------------------------

The White moon is a cavity in the Arctic where Adam was found (by
the Katsuragi expedition). In the redone episode 21 we see a

subterranean scan of the Arctic which shows the White Moon. The

Black Moon is the Geofront (where the Pyramid and NERV reside).
The white moon is where Adam was found, and the Black Moon is
where Lilith was found (though never stated, it is a logical
assumption), the Black Moon has also been called "Lilith's Egg"
in the EoE movie.

> Q4: Which Angel was "Lilin"?

The 18th. Humans.

> Q5: What car does Misato drive?

From the FAQ:

3.3.11 Misato's Car
------------
Misato's car is a Renault A-310. She has 2 of these cars, the one
in episode 1 is a modified version, with a right hand steering
wheel and battery powered. Her second car appears in episode 4
(non-modified) which is left side steering and petrol powered.
She is a car maniac and also has a number of other classic (in
that era) cars.

> Q6: How big is the Geofront?

From the FAQ:

3.3.12 The Geofront
------------

The GeoFront is 900m high, and 6km across. Access is by car train
and monorail.

But yes it is a sphere with 6km diameter.

> Q7: When in Hayashibara Megumi birthday?

March, 30th

> Q8: Who or what is Ayanami named after?

From the FAQ:

3.3.4 What do the characters' names mean?
-----------------------------------
Ayanami Rei: Ayanami is named after a ship of the former Japan
navy. Rei is just a pun of 'rei' [zero], but actually named after
Hino Rei of Sailor Moon. It was a beit to invite Iku-chan
(Ikuhara Kunihiko) as a staff, but he ran away. Too bad.

> Q9: Which arm did Touji lose when Unit-03 was destroyed?

Trick question. From the FAQ:

3.1.3 Did Touji lose an arm when Unit 03 was destroyed?
-------------------------------------------------
When we see Touji in the hospital when Hikari is there, we can
see that he has clearly lost a leg, and his left arm is not in
view. This does not mean he lost the arm. We can see both of his
arms intact when he is being pulled from the entry plug, and in
the storyboards for the EoE movie he is shown playing basketball
in a wheelchair, with two arms. So contrary to popular belief,
*HE DID NOT LOSE AN ARM*. Never ever say this on the group. Both
of Touji's arms survived and any arguments otherwise are futile.

> Q10: In which fanfic was Rei given a puppy?

"Rei's Birthday Present" by Chris Burke.

Why? I've always wondered why this newsgroup never really got into
the fanfics that have been written. A few threads have popped up, but
I would have expected more. Especially since the series has been
discussed to death.

It would give something to talk about until we can start complaining
about the new movie...

Not bad... definitely a great idea. Next, Rei should get a banjo
[obscure Peanuts reference], and then she'll be halfway human. The one
interesting thing about a lot of fanfics is how the authors try to get
into the thought processes of the characters in ways never shown on the
screen. This also tends, I think, to show a lot about the writer too.

But, really... gzip? I didn't realize fanfic writers were such Unix geeks.

I think that is one of the driving reasons behind people writing
fanfics. They want to know or show what would happen if the
characters were put into a different situation than what we had seen.

I quite liked "Age of Evangelion" by Christopher Angel.

ftp://ftp.cs.ubc.ca/pub/archive/anime-fan-works/Evangelion/Age-of-Evangelion/
It swaps Rei and Shinji in the story of Eva.

> But, really... gzip? I didn't realize fanfic writers were such Unix geeks.

That's automatically[1] done for any stories posted to RAAC.

[1] Not sure if someone or something does it. Probably automatic.

P^3, in other news... I've posted a new pic...
