I've added another image to my webpage
<plug> http://pen3.cjb.net </plug>

This one is of Russell Crowe's movie Master and Commander, which I
thought just screamed Gendo.

P^3, to avoid controversy I used "Gendou" instead of my preferred
spelling "Gendo".

LOL!

Totally! Good call on that one!

So is Mr. Crowe another contender for
Gendo in the Eva Movie?

Pfft. If I had my say, it'd be Jeremy Irons all the way.

William. Shatner. Gendo seems to talk in a somewhat similar way.
In all seriousness, *maybe* Alan Rickman. However, what I'd really
like to see is the director pull a "Jurassic Park" and cast a bunch of
unknowns. This might also go easier on their budget.

I wouldn't nessesarily say the cast of JP were "unknowns" per se, rather
they weren't big-name stars (well, maybe Jeff Goldblum) but Sam Neill and
Sir Richard Attenbourgh and Laura Dern were known actors, just not the
high-powered stars that seem to dominate most big-budget films these days.
Heck, LOTR is full of what you might call "unknowns", with Viggo Mortensen,
Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Sean Bean, Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan.
Even the better-known actors aren't exactly big names, well, maybe Elijah
Wood and Liv Tyler. I still think Weaving would be perfect for Gendo, he has
that intense look in his eyes, and he does come off as being mysterious and
intimidating with sunglasses in the Matrix films as Agent Smith. Rickman,
OTOH, while he seems to have gravitated more towards comidic roles, does
still provide a sinister ambiance in the role of Professer Snape in the
Harry Potter films, so he is also a posibility.

"Tell me, Shinji; how can you scream,
if you can't speak?"

Oh no, here I go again (apologies if I mix up lines):
-------
Episode: "Magmadiver"

<NERV personnel are gathered for a briefing>

Gendo: An angel has been found in the depths of Mount Doom. It must
be taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from
whence it came -- er, we have to take it out of the fiery chasm from
whence it came.

One of you must do this.

<Dead silence>
<No, not really>

Asuka: I'll do it!

Shinji: *sigh*

Gendo: She will need help.

Shinji: You will have my S-type equipment.

Rei: And my deathwish.

Gendo: Very well. You shall be... The Fellowship of the Angel.
-------------------

Actually, I think Hugo Weaving would be pretty good, and LOTR is
another good example of not hiring headline actors and instead getting
actors that fit their parts.
