Silly little question, but I thought I'd throw it out there:

What does "Shougoki" translate to? I'm guessing "goki" means unit
"shou" is something like either "single", "one", "test" or something.
But why not "ichigoki" or something? This is basically a Japanese
question, I guess, but where better to ask than j.a.e.?

And why not "reigoki" instead of "zerogoki"?

"Ki" means "machine", "gô" means "number", and "sho" means
"beginning".

It's a cinema reference. "Shogô print" is the way you call the first
print of a movie, in Japan.

>And why not "reigoki" instead of "zerogoki"?

Same as above: "0 gô print" is the way you call the test print you
make just before the real first print of a movie, in Japan.

um, pardon my ignorance of the language, but why do they so frequently say
Yon (Yo?) instead of Shi for the number four? Is there a reason for this,
or just one of those nuances?
Also I think it is done for several other numbers.

I think its because Shi can also mean death, thats why forty is Yon-ju, not
shi-ju, but then they say ju-shi (14) on occasion.

Allot of times there is no set liner rules, you just have to remember to

Interesting. But as for yon and nana, and shi and shichi, which ones are
originally Japanese and which are imported Chinese?

I would assume that yon is the Japanese and shi is the imported Chinese
(yi. ni. sam. si).

would the use of ju-shi be symbolic of the death of fourteen-year old
pilots, by any chance?

Correct.
Same for "nana" (Japanese) and "shichi" (from Chinese).

BTW: Is it true that they do not have a 4th floor (like in some US
buildings there is no 13th but a 14th floor)?

Actually there is a 13th floor, there's just no access to it cause there's
nothing on it! Apart from support structures to keep the 14th floor where
it is. This of course varies with each building constructed. I've seen
some very tacky buildigns where they have not even placed windows or walls
along the 13th floor, they just left it open! A belt of bird shit doesn't
make a building look pretty!

Well, I never saw Asuka die, and I never saw Rei die. Actually as Rei was
later seen in EoE one would then assume that she did not die before then
eh?

I take it then the presumption of death isn't enough for you? So a writ of
habius coupus is in order. Find a judge you can sweet-talk and we'll send
one to Anno. Present the bodies, man!

I'm actually more concerned with evidence of life here rather then proof
of death. You see, because we have some hints that Asuka never
participated in Instrumentality and never actually died. Of course Rei is
more then her body would suggest, you can not kill Rei by destroying her
body.

Oh and for the record, I prefer to sweat-talk the judges! ;P

Quite a few large bits and pieces, in fact. The remains are often run
through a mill before release to the family. Even so, there are
enough fragments left to, say, strip the paint from a plane doing an
ash dispersal. A friend who did scattering services years ago said it
sounded and looked like someone had sandblasted the side of his craft
with pea-gravel! (this was before he had a proper dispersing mechanism
installed. mental note: pushing ashes out the window at 120kts does
bad things to paint!)
Hmm.. looks like Neptune Society has a good description published:
<http://www.neptunesociety.com/cremation/>

Back on Shi related matters... as well as the aversion to 4's, I am
told that it is inappropriate to give timepieces as gifts (not sure if
this is only for particular occasions, or in general). Apparently
something about marking the passage of time = implying impending
death. (presumably giving four timepieces would be extremely rude)
Perhaps someone here can confirm or deny this tale...

Keep Rei 04 away from Asuka for awhile, the Red-Haired Devil is having a bad
effect on her. See if Shinji is around, and pair Rei 04 up with him. He can
teach her to cook, or something. As long as it's not Pen^3.

Rei 04: I DON'T NEED ANOTHER ONE!

Rei 14: Disaster heard that he should pimp us out. So as we don't like
that idea we had to club him! He keeps getting away but never for long. We
keep him locked up in front of the TV watching episodes 25 and 26 over and
over again. However as we don't have the tapes cause he forgot them in
Sydney, the moron, we have to act it out and he has to pretend to be

Truly terrifying. Here's an idea, go rent D&R. It's out on video. I just got
the DVD. Make Disaster watch that for a few days straight. And please pay no
attention to the Redheaded Devil. In other words, don't crash the sat.

Well, go get him! Then when you have him, perform Love Hina episode 6, when
Keitaro and Naru run into Mutsumi in Kyoto. And have Shinji as Kei, Asuka as
Naru and one of you as Mutsumi (say, Rei 04)

You do have stun settings, don't you? I mean, do you want him alive? OH!
Wait, I see. You can just collapse his ATF and turn him into orange goo.
Then you force his soul into a container full of LCL, wait for him to
reform...well, that of course works only if he WANTS to return.

I could have told her that. But nnoooooooo I gotta run about looking for
places to hide and escaping their "good intentions" and "survival
instincts." At least they didn't damage anything, apart from me anyhow.

He does! Because that's what she wants him to do and it's much safer to
comply. Trust me, not after your soul again just yet, just helping you
stay alive.

Doesn't matter. You're nothing against anything which can be created
using Peano's Axioms. There's just a little space trouble.

Wich programming language is that? I do not know the meanings of the
,2,4 and ,4,1, but it cannot work at all. In 1. my name is referred to
as variable name, in 2. as string content. All programming languages I
know of differentiate between variable names and strings. If I read it
correctly, it is:

100 IF Rudolf$ = "*code*" THEN 200 ELSE 400
200 KILL "Rudolf"
300 IF Rudolf$ = End$ THEN 400 ELSE 100
400 Rudolf$

Note that the only thing 4. could mean is a function call or a variable
access without using the result. Probaly you want to substitute End for
Rudolf in 4. - this might work if and only if Rudolf = "*code*" at the
start of the program. Probably you are meaning

100 IF Rudolf$ <> "*code*" THEN 400
200 KILL "Rudolf"
300 IF Rudolf$ <> "END" THEN 100
400 EVAL Rudolf$

But since the Del() with a string does not have side effects on the
variable called like that, your loop will either execute never (if
Rudolf = "*code*") or forever otherwise. So I can optimize the second IF
away because its condition is always true.

100 IF Rudolf$ <> "*code*" THEN 400
200 KILL "Rudolf"
300 GOTO 100
400 EVAL Rudolf$

If 100 is reached because of the GOTO, one already knows that Rudolf$ <>
"*code*" - so no further check is needed.

100 IF Rudolf$ <> "*code*" THEN 400
200 KILL "Rudolf"
300 GOTO 200
400 EVAL Rudolf$

Now you are not using a working multitasking-aware operating system, so
I can further optimize the program to only trying to remove the file
once (either it worked or it didn't):

100 IF Rudolf$ <> "*code*" THEN 400
200 KILL "Rudolf"
300 END
400 EVAL Rudolf$

which is more user-friendly.

Now I'm being nice to you and put "GOTO 400" into Rudolf$ (or the
equivalent in your language: If("Rudolf" = "Polzer",4,4))... have fun
with your endless loop!

[Snip stupid coding]

Actually it's not a programming code at all! It's a mutilation of excel
formula. Uses the expression IF([logical statement],[if true],[if false]).
the Del command is a lazy way of pointing out the lack of attention to a
true value. And yes the meaning of Rudolf does change but only because I
didn't want to write it out further. I was trying to come up with
something quickly. It is a little lazy, here is something a LITTLE more
fleshed out:

First -
"MSG" refers to the post being analyzed.
"FROM" refers to the field in the MSG of the same name.
"BODY" refers to the body of the MSG.
"CODE" refers to any character or pattern of characters that would be
recognized as code work done by Rudolf.

=If(MSG=AND(FROM="Rudolf", BODY=CODE),MSG,0)

If you really want to hear my twisted logic in the previous statement let
me know.

Big deal. I've had worse bosses than you. BTW, I've found a glitch in your
control over me: My soul technically still belongs to my current company
Solectron, so until my termination date, it still belongs to them.
