Hello. Just want to ask is there an English translation to NGE: Iron Maiden
or is anyone working on one? I'd like to understand this game fully, and my
only other option is to learn Japanese, to which I would rather staple my
testicles to a greyhound's foot to avoid.

Any help is appreciated.

P.S. Since I am new to this group I will add the casual n00b statement: Rei
rules!!!

My limited knowledge recalls that the game was import-only, so I'd
doubt it.

Bah. Rei's so pale that I'd think she'd burst into flames as soon as
she came into contact with natural sunlight. Why doesn't everyone
have a thing for Misato, or Asuka...

As I understand it, Asuka _is_ a major sex icon for NGE. I was
surprised that Rei had such a large group of admirers, though.

Female anime love interests tend to more like Rei than Asuka or Misato,
anyway.

El Hazard:
Makoto falls for Ifurita rather than Nanami or (my personal
favorite), Shayla-Shayla.

Nadesico:
Akito ends up with Yurika rather than Megumi (too clingy ;), Ryoko
(very Asuka-like, not quite =), or the other pilot (the one with
glasses; can't remember her name, but very cute).

Outlaw Star:
Gene falls for the quiet, introspective, complex Melfina, not the
token cat girl...

Trigun:
Wolfwood (who is undeniably the hero, right? ;) falls for the
unexpectedly complex Milly, not the generally abusive Meryl.

Escaflowne:
I still don't understand why Van didn't push Hitomi off on Allen,
player that she was, but nevertheless, Van falls for the
pathologically indecisive "Earth chick"...

There are, of course, flaws in my logic, and I'm on 80% serious at most.

To sum up, perhaps Asuka and Misato are simply too independent or
rebelious to be the ideal Japanese mate? Thoughts?

1) Misato has a gun and a beer
2) Misato's boyfriend has a gun and career that suggests he knows how to
use it
3) Asuka is a bitch
4) Rei is mysterious
5) Rei never burst into flames upon contact with natural sunlight :P

There ~used~ to be a fan made English and French translation of "Tenku
No Girlfriend" at:
http://tenku.no.girlfriend.free.fr/
but it appears Gainax made him pull it. Pitty. However, I imagine
that this was probably an abbreviated version of the original. (at the
moment I can't spend the $160USD to import it and do the comparison -
sorry)
I have a version from April - suppose if Tessai wants me to send it
his way...

And kinda look at the scene around her avoiding all contact with her eye's
and/or mouth or general facial expressions and ignore the stance of her
body and the effect she has on her environment. But apart from that yeah
great!

I didn't bother writing <snip> a bunch of times. As much as I would've liked
Trigun to have Wolfwood as the main hero, it just didn't work out that way. The
main reason why Wolfwood ended up with MIlly is because the people that created
Trigun only thought to introduce TWO permanent female characters.

And if Akito wanted to fall for a Rei-like character in Nadesico...WHY DIDN'T
HE JUST FALL FOR RURI!?!? I'm guessing you haven't seen the movie because
that's explained a little. I might've gotten a really bad fansub, but I'm
pretty sure Ruri did have a thing for Akito in the series according the movie.
Hikaru (red-head with glasses) also is just another pilot with a major otaku
complex. Megumi just doesn't fit well with Akito, and Yurika and Akito have
this whole prince and damsel in distress thing going on...Well, yeah. If Akito
wanted to fall for a Misato character he'd just have fell for Minato. If he
wanted to fall for a Ritsuko, he'd be chasing Ines around. You're right about
the whole Ryoko and Asuka thing though, but I don't think Yurika has any
character relation in Eva.

That's because AOL makes you do everything the hard way. ;)

...and you don't have to write <snip> to snip the signature.

See, there you go inserting *LOGIC* into a response. How could you do
that to me?!?!

Actually, I really like Vash, and my friend Erikka decided she was going
to marry him after the first ep. (I guess I can't accuse her of not
wanting to commit...;) I guess I just like Wolfwood's smirly character,
but Vash is definitely the "hero" of Trigun... though Milly sure can
hold her own.... ;)

I did notice Ruri blush a few times at Akito, and there was some tension
in a few episodes: Omoikane's schizophrenic attack, and Princess Ruri.

(I haven't gotten the opportunity to see the movie yet.)

I fully endorse the fact that Ruri is the most interesting character in
the series, and in few years might make the ideal GF.

Baka. =)

Yes. Too clingy.

Yeah, but I can always hope our protagonist falls for a slightly more
interesting character, though I'll never question Yurika's command
ability.

> If Akito wanted to fall for a Misato character he'd just have fell for

I dunno. Minato seems to be able to keep a relationship, and she's
generally far more sober than Misato... =)

> If he wanted to fall for a Ritsuko, he'd be chasing Ines around.

The biggest problem I have with Ritsuko is that she's so bitter. Inez,
while an admitted nerd and explanation addict, is at heart a big softy.
Ritsuko, OTOH, whenever she's not talking about work is usually venting
about her childhood and emotionally absent mother, etc, etc.

BTW, am I the only one who thought that her theme music from eps 8 and 9
made it seem like she was from Texas or something? The first time we
meet Asuka I expected her to be a sort of rough-around-the-edges country

You don't seem to understand the law quite enough. Being underage does not
give you permission to have sex with the opposite gender, it prevents you
just like it prevents those over the legal age limit. You are denied just
as much as anyone else.

Now we are not talking about actual sex obviously but this is where the
idea's and other laws concerning this topic branch from, they all have the
same rules and fundamentals so no matter where you look yer screwed! (pun
fully intended)

Yui is the most underappreciated female character in the series. She's
clearly got the most going for her, even surpassing Rei, and one of only
three characters in the show I'd actually trust the future of humanity
with (the others being Kaji and Fuyutsuki).

You'd trust Gendo's lap dog? As honest as Kozo is and as much as I like

a position to do otherwise, he's old and scared, he knows that one path
will lead to the desired result and anything he tries to do to do anything
other then help it along will be thwarted. He's a helpless old man.

As for Kaji, he is as far as I care the white knight in the show yes. The
one guy you could count on to always hunt down and find the truth. That's
why he died. Because he was a pillar of hope and justice. He was also, in
the end, on Gendo's side like Misato ended up being.

Yui was in it from the beginning.

Gendo did have an ulterior motive for trying to control Instrumentality
yes but he was still working towards the one goal that everyone wanted.

True, but Richard does make a point. What WAS with the bad CW music in eps.
8 & 9? It might have worked if it had been for ep. 8 only, since the fleet
was mainly made of American Naval vessels (carrying Russian aircraft!).

Ritsuko was talking, I think to Misato in either ep' 25 or 26. It was one
of those confusing scene's where questions were being answered. She says
that Instrumentality was being done at the request of humanity. An
unspoken request to remove the pain of individuality by merging everyone
into a single soul. One being, no pain.

Yeah, all she was missing was a cowboy hat and boots. The music is far
too happy to fit Asuka, in hindsight. Although, it *is* annoying enough...

We are talking about NGE here, not fantasy excuses in the real world used
by those who need to justify their sins rather then repent to those they
sinned against.

(NOTE: I use the term sin for the sake of arugment not as a reference to
any religious sect or cult but it's more political basis in where the
fundamentals are more or less similar.)

Light may indeed outshine any darkness and banish it utterly. Likewise,
Good may exist without evil, it is your choice, in your hands to decide
what you shall do with your intentions.

That phrase you used was created by people basically who needed an excuse
to justify the evil in their world. It's an easy way out, not worthy of
consideration. And it make me sick just looking at it. It is false and
offends me with it's mere existence.

I am being serious! Those are movies, which at best reflect an aspect of
political thinking of the age in which they were created. By political
thinking I mean the general thoughts and consensus of the culture at the
time. This is not what I meant before hand. In the world we can split
thinking from mob groups into two sections. Religious and political.
Religious thinking stems from the idea that there is a higher power and
from that higher power we receive higher morals and ethics that should
rule our lives. Political thinking has no higher power and instead uses
the combined wisdom of the mob to determine the morals and ethics that
should rule out lives. In both scenario's there is a lot of room for
interpretation and because unlike me many people do not believe in God (a
higher power) I use the political view point as a common ground. Think of
Science versus the Bible. In this case though there is no Creation theory.

Imagine the realm as a great big hollow sphere! You are inside the sphere
for your viewing pleasure you have been provided sun glasses because
inside there is a great big very bright source of incredible light. There
is no room for shadow in this realm because even though you stand between
the light and the wall of the sphere the reflection and diffusion of light
allows for enough illumination directly behind you. That is, there are no
shadows thus there is no darkness! Light exists without dark.

Just because I don't notice something does not mean it has not been
acounted for. I am not using my senses in this example or this ideaology,
I am using the facts as they are.

Now if you want to move this example on and compare it to good and evil
then fine lets do that.

In this world we have so many people, say 6 billion. Each person has the
right to choose how they act and what their intentions are going to be. We
have the right to choose. This means that we can choose to be good and we
can choose to be evil. Now the law of averages would suggest that 3
billion people would choose good and 3 billion people would choose evil.
Fortunately this doesn't take into account the mob mentality. This
suggests that what one person does another is likey to do also. Following
this example we can estimate that should the first person choose good then
say 5 billion choose good and 1 billion choose evil.

None of those examples uses a formula that gives exact figures or even
certain figures. If one person is allowed to choose good that it follows
that all people are allowed to choose good. If all people choose good and
all people are good to each other then where is evil? It's possible to be
without evil, it's ideal. It's not however, real. Evil does exist but only
because people choose to let it exist. People decide that they are going
to do evil things, it's not forced on them and it certainly does not come
from anything else.

Of course you can reverse this and work it for evil the same way. If
that's what you want to do though, then you are argueing for world of
complete and utter darkness. If you ever find your way out, let me know!

You can't be much of a libertarian is you describe yourself as "left."
Libertarianism denounces the left/right theory entirely. It focuses
entirely on the rights of the individual to decide for himself what is
right, so long as it doesn't threaten the freedom of anyone else. This
is something I've never associated with left-wing liberals that want to
control my gun, my yard, my community, and allow my daughter to have an
abortion during school hours without my knowledge.

While I'm clarifying (in vague ascending order of extremism):

Left (liberalism):

Socialism
Example: Britain

Communism (totalitarianism + left-wing politics)
Example: former Russia

Right (conservatism):

Fascism (totalitarianism + right-wing politics)
Example: Nazi Germany

Neither:

Libertarianism
Example: Idaho =)

That's about as much detail as I can go into without resorting to
humorous illustrations involving penguins and impressionist bovine
painters...

BTW, I'm _not_ a libertarian. Financially, I'm conservative.
Socially, I'm apathetic. =)

Okay, first you shouldn't be aloud to possess a gun unless it's part of
your occupation and your yard should be yours to control and your
community should be locally controlled by the government depending on what
we are talking about though a private organization might be more
appropriate as for your daughter what the hell is she doing having sex in
the first place and what the hell gave her the right to murder babies?

I can't be bothered pointing out further criticisms where your flawed view

you meant to say the USSR, but there is a significant difference.

Oh god no, I just talk a lot. There is a difference between understanding
and experience. It is not necessary to experience something in order to
understand it. You do not need the contrast of darkness to recognize
light. Go back to the sphere, you are standing in it and you can see
yourself, thus you know the room is full of light, otherwise you would not
be able to see your hand.

No. I meant Russia. Russia's government which collapsed. The nation
itself still exists, but I suppose I should have clarified that I meant
the government, and not the actual set of national borders which
delineate the country of Russia? Would that help you understand?

Better yet, wanna buy my Eva DVDs? Give em to ya half price! Compleat with

Then all you need is a DVD player. You should be able to find one for under

Fear not, I can be forgiving. Actually this does not stem from my own
understanding of politics. It comes from my fathers who had several things
to say about your statements and the way you mostly used totalitarian
definitions as part of a government. He said it's an economical status or
something. Anyhow go talk to him!

Russia exists because of it's government. the change of government does
not mean that it fell or has become former! Russia has borders because
there is a government there to declare them. otherwise it's unclaimed
territory.

Good sensible comments following a logical non-bias system. For everything
else if I agree it doesn't offend me. Otherwise I may or may not decide to
rant endlessly depending on how much work I have done that day and if I
want to go to bed or not.

Oh work, damn that reminds me, laundry! Hang on..... Damn socks.

That's hardly called for you moron! I'd hardly call that hard to read or
interpret, just because you don't understand it doesn't mean that I didn't
go to school. I'm sorry that you didn't understand it though because it's
sole purpose was to point out to you just what it was that I was talking

That's not so hard actually. Given the populations size, any topic will
have a large audience if you can just find them! The problem is finding a
topic that attract people willing to come pay and listen to it.

I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say "it's an economical
status," but if you're referring to my definition of Libertarianism, I'm
only repeating the contents of:

http://www.self-gov.org/libfaq.html#Lib.FAQ.2

In case you're still reluctant to follow links I give in my posts, it is

subsequent answer.

Since we seem to have gotten off track, let me reassert my point:
Russia's former government was communist. This is why I was reaffirming
that I was talking about Russia's _government_, not it's _borders_. I
never said Russia _lacked_ a government, just that is lost one. Subtle
but important semantics.

Yes, I argue semantics. =)

I have a friend who would viciously disagree with you on this point, saying
that Russia exists because of it's people, not it's govenment. Russians are
Russians, not Communist Russians or Democratic Russians, just Russians! BTW,
he also says there are no true Americans or Canadians or Mexicans beyond the
aboriginal peoples here already when the first Europeans arrived. So,
Disaster, you're neither Canadian or Austrailian, mearly a displaced
Englishman (like me). Personally, I disagree, but unlike you, I accept
discussion on different views (or Truths).

Yeah, I know. Work is such a drag.

Whoa! Time out! I'm not trying to be sarcastic here! I mean it! You do tend
to rant and rave at times, but you do often show you are very enlightened.
Hey, I spent 7 years in collage, and all I have to show for it is a lousy
two-year degree in electronics technology. And you know what that's worth
these days! So yes, I do say stupid things from time to time here. But not
this time.

If you start hitting the Anime cons more, I'm sure some of your truths on
Eva could attract a considerable crowd. Heck, Tiffany and Amanda might even
be willing to help out (if they're attending)

This is true. But then, sometimes, neither am I!

Rei 13: If Disaster-chan were here he would say the following:

These are two different opinions though. If I am a displaced Englishman
then a Russian is not a Russian but a displaced Viking! I understand his
view point but he also has to realize that if the right of ownership by
conquest is aloud for his ancestors then they are just as aloud for mine!
By the way there really are no Mexicans, only drunks! ;P

Rei 14: Are you sure?

Rei 13: Yes. *perfectly straight face*

Rei 14: *Not so perfectly straight face*
