I guess Washington doens't care that it would violate Japan's constitution.
They're called "Self Defense Forces" for a reason.
Who do you think wrote that Constitution in the First Place? The United
States.
In the meantime, they spend almost nothing for National Defense unlike the
US does. What we see is, unfair trade practices where they take that money
not spent on National Defense and subsidise goods for export to the US.
That method would be selling it for less than it costed to manufacture it in
order to keep another countries supplies appear to be overpriced.
They do need to become part of the rest of the world in all ways, not just
financial.
Japan as America's lap dog, as usual.
Japan can be trusted as a US Ally.
I have doubts about South Korea.
USA
The United States wrote their constitution after the war in 1945.
By 1950 we were already regretting what we did.
Gen. Douglas MacArthur wanted, among a whole bunch of other things, to see
a new Japanese Army fighting the commies on the Korean Penninsula.
It was Japan herself who resisted getting involved having been just burned
in a long war.
USA
and why does the US need allies? We sure didn't when we decided to go to
Iraq in the first place.
I believe that the US government's official position regarding going to war
with Iraq was
that they had 26 "allies" of which 4 put troops on the ground in Iraq.
I think you are mistaking the security council opposition as the whole span
of countries
in the world.
Regardless, my point is that big brother America does not need anyone's
help to make up its own mind and then act out aggressively.
Yes and No. For example even a pre-emptive strike in many cases requires at
the least assistance from other countries
in terms of use of their airbases and/or their airbases, so while the US
"could" do what it felt like, without some assistance
from others the project may be too costly or too difficult logistically to
carry out. On the other hand aggressive actions
such as Panama or Grenada certainly did not require help from anybody.
But the main reason to obtain others' help, assistance, approval, whatever
really has to do with future diplomatic
and economic relations during and after the act of aggression.
After United States have shielded top Japanese war criminals,
it's the least Japan could do for US, no? Wait until Japanese
interests no longer converge with that of United States.
How often you call other netter(s) moron and for what reason?
The way the world has developed since 1945, it is pretty much impossible to
have a diversion
of interests between the US and western europe or the US and Japan to the
extent that military
capability becomes an issue. And please don't confuse something as minor as
the US-France dispute
in the security council prior to the Iraq war as a split in interests to
that degree. It wasn't and isn't.
If you want to charge that the US shielded and covered up alot of actions
conducted by the Imperial Japanese
forcers during WWII, then the answer is yes, the US is indeed guilty of
having done just that. Not only that,
after re-writing Japan's post war constitution so that they would not have a
standing army, by 1950 we were
already regretting that and pushed for the formation of a branch of the
national police department which has
evolved into what is called the Japanese Self Defense Forces today.
I don't often call posters "morons" unless they do something blatantly
stupid...such as asking for evidence
of racism while using a racist term themselves....DUHHHHHHH....

if you have any.
So what? actually Koizumi is a descendant of the Satsuma Hayato who
had raised the pseudo British civilization of the Meiji era.
Now he is acting like Mr. Blair, as well as his ancestors had mimiced
the British.
I'm just watching him if he really deserves to be the lap dog since he
might bite like the Satsuma Hayato Tokyo regime attacked the pearl
harbor.
No you did make a charge and I agreed thast the US is guilty of that charge.

The word "Jap" is a racist term grunt. Not only is it a racist term, it is
an English term and used extensively
durting WWII by Americans who were at war with the Japanese Empire.
The Japanese Empire during tyhattime period included Korea, and there were
Korean soldiers even officers
in the Imperial Japanese Army.
These Koreans shot at American troops and were considered "japs" by American
troops.
So when a Korean thinks he is insulting a japanese by using the English word
"jap" it merely shows his
complete lack of knowledge concerning that word. That's why I always suggest
that Koreans at least
use their own Korean words if they want to be racist and insulting.
But perhaps more importantly, Non-Asian Americans in general can't or don't
differentiate between
Chinese-Japanese-Korean anyway, so terms like "chink, jap and gook"
effectively insults all asians
and asian-americans.
Something to think about.
What does "quote...unquote" mean to you? Sanctimonious idiot.
Just answer a question simply and directly for once.
Do you want to keep playing semantics?

This is simply unbelievable. I am arguing with a person who charges
racism in spite of quote ... unquote, as I have done? Why don't you
charge Kaz thing of racism since he himself used the term jap in the
first place. Truly amazing.

Whatever scribble between quote and unquote is verbatim. It is verbatim
of whatever spued by Japan apologist Kaz thing. Does it mean when Kaz
thing use the term jap, it doesn't constitute racism, but when I quote
verbatim, I am racist? Truly amazing. Read quote and unquote.
Come to think of it, Japan has history of governing body sanctioned
racism. Japan still unrepentent of its past, it is highly curious
why Japan apologists come to soc.culture.korean only to accuse Koreans
of racism.

I would very much like to charge Kaz with racism, but
he is a weird Japanese who thinks somehow that the area of Japan where he is
from
is somehow not connected to the Japan where Tokyo is.
He doesn't take responsibilty for the atrocities commited by the IJA during
WWII on
the grounds that they were done by the "Tokyo-Japs".
Regardless of whether Kaz has a legitimate point or is simply in need of
therapy, the
fact remains that as an American I can not get on Kazs' case about using
racist terms
about Japanese because he himself is Japanese.
Now,,,Korean posters, or any posters who are not Japanese using such racist
terminology
are a completely different case.
And what the hell is your rant suppose to mean?
Hirohito wasn't a war criminal because we never charged him or tried him as
one.
He never got a "pardon" because he didn't have to.
And all that has nothing to do with what;s going on in Japan now or it's
decision to send
JSDF troops to Iraq.
If you feel you must have ONE reason for all that is happening it is...Kim
Jong iL.
North Korea with their continued belligerence has managed to accomplish what
the US
has been trying to do unsuccesfully since 1950.
You are right, Hirohito didn't have to get pardon because he wasn't
charged with war crime - because Americans didn't want to face whole
Japan, because Americans found that Japan was more useful as a staging
point against Soviets rather than anything else. And it suited Japan
fine. It didn't have to account for its past, and now that it suits
to start seemingly expansionist military, it's fine to as long as it
suits to Japan.
In short, you have no evidence of Koreans using racist terms except in
extreme cases (nutcases) like Leolee and Y. Park.
Yes I'm glad that we agree on this.
> And it suited Japan
> fine. It didn't have to account for its past, and now that it suits
> to start seemingly expansionist military, it's fine to as long as it
> suits to Japan.
This is where you are speculating and throwing your anti-japanese racism
into the mix.
At the end of WWII Japan was completely devastated and absolutely at the
mercy of
the United States. Frankly, I don't believe Japan would have cared one way
or the other
whether it had to account for anything or not. The fact is that the Tokyo
War Crimes trials
were held and number of people were found guilty and sentenced to death.
There were many
Japanese who blamed these people as well as theformer Japanes military for
the devastation
brought on because of the war. Officially, Japan did account for everything.
It is merely an
unfortunate circumstance that not "everyone" was included. For example China
was represented
by the Nationalists under Chiang Kai Shek. This is one of the reasons that
PROC today which represents
China feels that it never had any say or recourse against Japan.
But all this really doesn't have much to do with the current upgrading of
the military in Japan.
From 1945 until now Japan has resisted all efforts, even those of the United
States, to upgrade
their military. It took the provactive launching of a missle over Japan in
1998 by North Korea
to start turning public sentiment around and ther current nuclear stand-off
and continous NKorean
threats to get the government moving.
According to your logic the term "wae" cannot be racist since it is
indigenous.
> Could you provide of list of Korean Nutcases who poost in here?
Don't try to change the subject. You have no evidence of Koreans using
racist terms.
Huh? Wasn't Hirohito the Emperor of Japan?
Isn't the Emperor supposed to be the head of
the state? Did Japan commite war crimes?
If so, the head of the state is one of the
people, if not the one, who committed crime?
Criminal is one who committed a crime.
Criminal is not one who the USA says he is one.

You must be a secret admirer of Kim since
everything you say eventually leads to him.

business?
Come on, don't play stupid. If anyone copied every message written by
Supertech and Y,Park alone
you know you'd see nothing but racist diatribe against Japanese.
Are you going to try and exempt them from having to behave like normasl
people because
they are "nutcases" in your opinion?
They are Koreans, and I don't see a single Korean telling them to knock off
the racist crap.
What does THAT tell you?
Yes he was.
> Isn't the Emperor supposed to be the head of
> the state?
Yes he is "supposed" to be. The history of Japan shows thats for the
majority of her history
that has not been the actual case.
Did Japan commite war crimes?
You can't try an entire nation, therefore, did certain members of the
Imperial Japanese Forces
commit war crimes? The answer is yes.
> If so, the head of the state is one of the
> people, if not the one, who committed crime?
>
Yes, Emperor Hirohito was prepared to take the full responsibilty of all the
actions
taken by Japan and her military. He made this clear to Gen. MacArther.
> Criminal is one who committed a crime.
> Criminal is not one who the USA says he is one.

Well that's where you couldn't be more wrong. The USA decided NOT to even
charge Hirohito, instead finding the government officials (cabinet members,
ministers) including the infamous General Hideki Tojo guilty. Most of them
got the death sentence.

Kay, you really let me down today. Although I think you are a liberal retard
at least you're usually
not this far out in left field.
The decision by Japan to send military forces to Iraq, albeit in a
non-combatant role, is a very big deal for Japan because
of it's constituition which prohibits the use of military force to be used.
Specifically it is article 9 of the post-war
Japanese constitution which was drafted by a team of 7 Washington Lawyers
and forced down the throats of
the Japanese at the end of WWII by the United States.
In June of 1950 when your best friends decided to cross the 38th parallel
and march onto Seoul, the US realized
that it had made a big mistake in disarming Japan so thoroughly.
The US pushed for the formation of a para-military police, the forerunner of
today's Japan Self Defense Forces,
effectivly the current Japanedse military forces.
The US wanted to enlist Japan in the fight against the global communist
menace but Japan, having suffered
from WWII refused rto go along. Gen MacArthur did succeed however in using
former Japanese Imperial
Navy minesweepers in ther Korean War.
And so for some 50 years Japan remained vehemently anti-militaristic. This
created quite a problem with the
US in the 1980s when Americans felt that Japan was simply too economically
powerful and successful not
be shouldering her own military costs. It also became an issue in the first
Persian Gulf War of 1991 when Japan
refused to send troops to join the coalition and opted instead to contribute
money. And so the Japanese populace,
safe under the nuclear umbrella of the US-Japan Mutual Defense Treaty
remained very anti-war....until your
idol decided to shoot a Taepongdong over Japan withouit warning in 1998.
Japan's attitude has changed overnight, suddenly feeling theatened when
after 50 years even China did not threaten
them. So here we are talking about Japan sending troops overseas and how
your favorite person with the sunglasses
and pompadour manged to accomplish what the US has tried to accomplish
unsuccesfully, and what the PROC has tried
to prevent for the last 50 some odd years.
Now....don't you feel like a retarded monkey gabbing about "hate" when you
don't have enough knowledge
to make the connection?
>Come on, don't play stupid. If anyone copied every message written by
>Supertech and Y,Park alone

>What does THAT tell you?
You are a racist. You another American, whose name
escapes me, use racist terms.
Yet, I don't see a single American telling
you to knock off the racist crap. Does that
mean all Americans are racists?
Two can play the game, you know.
Oh? I use racist terms?? Did I ever call you a gook? Or a chink? or a jap?
I haven't have I?
Which explains why no American has told me shut up.
I call you a retarded monkey, which you are. Is that racist too???
>> >And what the hell is your rant suppose to mean?
In other words, Hirohito knew that he was guilty
of the crime and he ought to. Although the
day-to-day activities were responsibility of
the prime minister (Dojo, was it?), Hirohito
is still responsible as the emperor. At least
he had the sense and I commend him for that.
So, MacArther decided not to lay blame on him
for political reasons and you say Hirohito was
not a war crime! You can do better than that.
If a guy is guilty, he is guilty regardless of
whether he was charged for the crime he committed.
It's like this. You walk down the back alley of,
say LA or NY. A guy suddenly appears, robs you
and beat the hell out of you. A press charge
and for whatever reasons you decide to drop the
charge; maybe the guy turned out to be a
conservative white and you figure a conservative
white cannot be a crime. Or, maybe he is a
member of your church. Maybe he is a Bush
supporter. Anyway, the point is that you decided
not to press charge.
Question: Is he legally guilty?
Answer: No.
Question: Is guilty?
Answer: Yes. He robbed you and beat you. Of course,
he is guilty.
Your response above is the reason why I keep
saying you believe in American Imperialism.
That's how the past empires operated and you
support it!
This is not knocking the US; I don't believe
the US is an empire nor do I believe that it
should be. It is knocking your small mind
that is full of hatred imperialism.

Thank you for your complement. I am proud
of being a liberal and progressive. I am
proud to be able to support progressive
ideas such as anti-racism, fairness to all,
and democratic reform, which obviously
you are against.
>The decision by Japan to send military forces to Iraq,
I cannot go through all your endless harangue

will cut the rope here and respond. With all
that nonsense, you did not address anything
about what Kim Jong Il has got to do with what
we are discussing. We all know that you are

1) When we are having Chrismas dinner
2) When we talk about baseball unless Kim is a great pitcher, which I

3) When we talk about "Computerbility Theory"
4) When we talk about the consequences of General Relativity.
There is a place for everything but not
everything has to be in one place. Don't
tell me you talk about Kim in your bed with
your wife. Wait, maybe you do.
Maybe yes and maybe no. Perhaps we will never know for sure now
since Hirohito is long dead.
Japanese history is rife with military rulers dictating policy and
effectvely "forcing the
Emperor's authorization" to give them legitimacy. This may have been the
case, or
Hirohito himself may have been in on it all along.

I wasn't around in 1945 Kay. I had no part in the US role in the Tokyo War

Similarly, if an UN committee was set up to investigate charges of war
crimes, would you agree with the findings of that committee as being valid?
Think about that and then look at the following:

But unlike you, the UN knows what these words mean. so until a person is
tried and convicted,
they use the label "war crimes suspect".

Of course I would find the findings valid, but that isn't the same as a
trial.
An investigation doesn't determine guilt, it merely uncovers the necessary

This is not a trial and it has nothing to do with any governmental or
intergovernmental authority.
In other words, it is a rambling of the prosection without any participation
of defense.
So this information could presumably be used as part of a government or
intergovernment

This was about the guilt of Hirohito.
Clearly you did not carefully read this site and I wonder if you even
understand the concept of being tried "in absentia"?
As far as this particular commission having any legal weight, you are right
it does not.
However, Hashimoto's government found it necessary to present legal
documents to this commission, so there was active participation by the
Japanese government in this commission, symbolic as this trial was. And this
commission found Hirohito guilty of crimes against humanity. And contrary to
what you wish to believe, this was not a witchhunt nor was it a plot of
North Koreans. It was an international tribunal sanctioned by the UN to
investigate war crimes allegations against the japanese government of WW2.
Austin
No I did read it and I found that as an non-governmental and
non-intergovernmental
forum it has no jurisdiction anywhere and whatever it's findings may be
carries no weight
in the real legal world. A forum which is NOT a recognized court can't "try
someone" in
absentia or otherwise. Or put more accurately, it can but no court in he
world is going to
recognize that as a conviction. BTW, did you know that the resulting
judgement from
a trial "in absentia" is nearly impossible to enforce outside the
jurisdiction of that court?
> As far as this particular commission having any legal weight, you are

Ok we are in agrrement on that point.

Then I stand corrected that Defense did participate.
Was the defense represented by the Japanese government?

You don't know what I wish to believe so I suggest you don't make such
presumptions.
As I have suggested elsewhere, I believe there are others who have claims to
greater damages
than Koreans. That doesn't mean Koreans don't, it simply means there are
others who have
greater claims.
> It was an international tribunal sanctioned by the UN to

It's fine that it was sanctioned by the UN.
Maybe the reason that it was sanctioned was because the UN knew it would
carry no legal
weight. Who knows?
Here's one I'll throw at you....is Adolph Hitler a War Criminal?
I'm sure we all agree that he is...but do we ever call him one?
Why not?
USA
> Here's one I'll throw at you....is Adolph Hitler a War Criminal?

Ah...I see...
You understand and agree that Hitler was a war criminal despite that fact
that he was not tried under court and therefore under legal terms "guilty"
of war crimes.
By that argument, you also seem to agree that Hirohito may have been a war
criminal, only that because he didn't face a tribunal, didn't face any
charges, and therefore not guilty of war crimes in any legal sense.
In other words, you actually agree with Kay.
Thank you.
Austin
You seem to have missed the point Austin. Or deliberately walked around it.
The fact is we DON'T call or label Adolph Hitler a War Criminal.
Why don't you take a wild guess why we don't.
Same applies for Benito Mussolini.
What difference does it make whether he
was tred or not?
Hitler was responsible to start the war.
Hitler was responsible for the genocide.
How can you say he is not a war criminal
while you call his generals and ministers
who were found guilty at Nurenberg war crimianls?
It's like cronic arguments of the right wing

Yeah, right. Officially Japan did account for everything. No wonder
you wrote Japan annexed Korea peacefully. Probably, this is the crucial
difference how victims and victimizers see each other.
For one, if Japan did account for everything, how come they only
acknoledged they -Japan government- did engage with so called comfort
women business for their war effort only during 1990s?
Your problem is you are eager to dress up for Japan without looking at
why Koreans really do get riled up.

Precisely, a suiting time for Japan to drop the farce of self-defense
force. That's the way goes. A timely chance for Japan to drop self-
defense farce.
If missile over Japan was provocative, how provocative was it upward
of 200,000 so called comfort women who suffered under Japan but
conveniently sweeped under rug? On the same token, just let it pass
50 years, a missile over Japan won't be so provocative after all.
I never wrote that. I write that the annexation of Korea was peaceful only
in comparison
to the Invasion of China. Furthernore, the discussion was about loss of life
and property.
The retarded Monkey and Master of Misquotes Kay has taken this out of

Society and pressure. It has happened in all democratic countries.
I don't see why Japan should be exampt from this.
> Your problem is you are eager to dress up for Japan without looking at

Well thank you for deciding for me what my problem is. I was certain it was
the lack of Korea posters who
could rationally consider what I was saying without speaking from emotion
only.
Face it many Koreans even young ones harbor racist resentment towards the
Japanese, you being a prime
example. Oh I know where it comes from, and I'm not dismissing the reasons.
But it IS a fact.

Suiting Japan??? What do you think? That the Japanese requested North Korea
to start acting belligerently
to justify remilitarization?
> If missile over Japan was provocative, how provocative was it upward
> of 200,000 so called comfort women who suffered under Japan but

That is a pretty silly comparison. The comfort women issue occured during
the reign of the Japanese Empire,
during which time Korea was a Japanese colony, and China was one big
battleground.
The 1998 missle launching was during 60 years of peace.
Only one who harbors hatred for the Japanese could possibly attempt such a
comparison.
Because it has everything to do with the legal
title of War Criminal being hung around someone's neck.
That's all. Nothing else.
> Hitler was responsible to start the war.
> Hitler was responsible for the genocide.
> How can you say he is not a war criminal

Yes, many people feel that way.
But that doesn't change the fact that he was never tried and convicted as
one.
This has nothing to do with the way that you, I or millions of people may
"feel".
His generals and ministers were tried, convicted and sentenced as War
Criminals
so I have no qualms about calling them that at all.
> It's like cronic arguments of the right wing

I don't disagree with you that both are lies. But there is a difference.
One has legal implications and can lead to impeachment
while the other can only piss people off.
If you can not see the difference in your own example, then you will not see
the point concerning the label of War Criminal being applied.
Right...
Go on your merry way and say to Jewish people that Hitler really wasn't a
war
criminal and really wasn't guilty of committing war crimes...
So...while you implicity agree that Hirohito, though not officially tried
and
convicted largely because of the intervention of MacArthur, was complicit in
the war crimes committed by those serving under him, for the sake of
maintaining your "rightness" or preventing the loss of your argument, you
refuse to formally acknowledge him as such so that you can "save face".
No wonder you and shuji get along so famously...
Austin
I guess the point has been lost on you too Austin.
But I think that you really understood what I was saying.
Honestly? I think Hirohito should have been tried.
But that doesn't change my position as regards officially labeling
someone a "criminal" of any kind without being tried.
And for the record I don't get along with Shuji at all, much less
famously.
I am accusing you of having an anti-japanese attitiude in general because of
the manner in
which you constantly blame Japan even when it doesn't make sense,,, for
example,,,
the US destroyed Japan completely, it's cities, it's industry, everything.
The brought the
Japanese Enpire to its knees and made it accept an unconditional surrender.
They were
in no position to dictate anything. So we wrote them a new constitution and
took apart their
military industrial complex. We made their Emperor denounce his devine
status publically.
Yes..you describe all this as having..."suited Japan".
That is quite frankly...ridiculous. It all suited the United States, period.
I constantly blame Japan for what? Also, anti-Japanese attitude is not
similar to anti-Japanese racism, as you have accused me. Quote case(s)
of anti-Japanese racism, as you have accused me.
As for anti-Japanese attitude, again, quote cases. I constantly blame
Japan for what?
Make your case or shut up.
> example,,,

It all suited the United States. So, what is your point?
> It all suited the United States. So, what is your point?
YOU SAID:
> > And it suited Japan
> > fine. It didn't have to account for its past, and now that it suits
> > to start seemingly expansionist military, it's fine to as long as it
> > suits to Japan.
There's your point you idiot.
Case made, now get lost you idiot.
Is this what you call anti-Japanese racism, or is this what you call
anti-Japanese attitude? Make your case.
It is a simple fact that Japan didn't account for its past. For example,
what did Japan do about semi-slavery forced laborers who toiled under
Japan? In constrast to Germany, Japan didn't do a thing about it. Again,
the fact is that Japan didn't fully account for its past.
Then, I am talking about certain facts about Japan's past wrongs. Is this
anti-Japanese racism or is this anti-Japanese attitude? Make your case.
> There's your point you idiot.
> Case made, now get lost you idiot.
First, you didn't make no case whatsoever. You don't even define what is
an anti-Japanese racism, or an anti-Japanese attitude. I am talking about
facts. Categorize the facts (Japan's past wrongs that Japan didn't account
fully to this day) I am talking about.
Second, you have used words like moron against me in other thread without
any justification whatsoever. Here, you call me an idiot. For what reason?
If you don't have better things to write, just be gone. Soc.culture.korean
has seen trolls in the past and it doesn't need another one now.

I called you an idiot because you could not see that I criticized you for
saying "suited Japan"
then gave you reasons why it actually "suited the US" and your only response
to that
was "It all suited the United States. So, what is your point?".
That is idiotic.
So, now you concede Japan has not been accounting for past deeds?
Japan's been hiding behind pacifist constitution bestow by Americans.
Period. Hirohito's role as head of state, forbidden to make political
statments in just one example. One of reasons offered by Japan as to
why Hirohito never apologized for things Japan has done to Korea (under
Hirohito's name), is that Hirohito is prohibited to make political
statments. Yes, indeed, it suits Japan.
If these facts are anti-Japan racism, as you wrote, then what you call
your usage of words like moron, idiot, etc? Proactive ignorance?
> > Second, you have used words like moron against me in other thread without

You mean you are really a girlsish lumberjack? No, actually, what I
meant to say is, what of "suited Japan" makes you tickle? Do you concede
Japan has not been fully accounting for its past? Do you have any idea
what are issues Korea/Koreans have with Japan? If you do, can you enumerate
few issues here so that I know I am talking with a person who knows the
topic. THis way, we'll have in open what you do or don't know and/or
concede, and then we'll have starting point. It's better first stablish
certain facts instead of talking to a hot aired "suited Japan" tickle.
First off, Japanese people don't need Korean people to speak for us.
Second, stop posting shit in the god damn fj.soc.politics newsgroup.
I had not realized this was a talk between Korean people and Japanese

I honestly have foggest idea what fj.soc.politics newsgroup is about,

and yes people DO mind.

For one thing, Japan did and will not account "everything."
What Japan did is to resolve the claims. According to the accompanying
document of1965 ROK-JPN treaty, which were ratified by both STATES
states that all calims from both sides including property, rights or
benefits which arose before the signatory date (Jun 22 1965) including the calims
of citizens of a contracting STATE against citizens of the other STATE
that arose before that date (Jun 22 1965) were finally and completely
resolved and no longer negotiable. Based on this, Japan gave $300
million to ROK (article 1). This is the reason why Japan resolved all claims
arose before Jun 22 1965. (article 2)
If ROK does not agree with the current situation, ROK can take the
diplomatic procedure written in the ratified document, which ROK has
never done yet. (the same document article 3)

This kind of approach by Japan apologists is exactly why there is
continuous claim that Japan has not account for the past.
Typical case is so called comfort women, which Japan even did not
acknowledge until early 1990s, even that, Japanese government first
stated that so called comfort women were private enterprise, and they
-Japanese government- were mere customers. That is kind of foot dragging
is precisely what makes Japan unapologetic for the past wrongs.
Talking about treaties, why don't you go to talk about Kim DaeJung
government decision to forgo any claims about so called comfort women,
and Japanese courts conveniently refusing law suits?

Are you implying so called comfort women issue is not as important since
Korea was Japan's colony and China was a battle ground, and that North
Korean rocket over Japan is important because it is peace time?
This is outrageously militaristic and apologetic for Japan's past. If
Japan had not occupied Korea, Korea would not have suffered. If Japan
had not invaded China, there would not have been such battles in China.
With all troubles started by Japan, 50 or years past is the past, and
yet a rocket over Japan is big trouble because Japan is in peace? As
I wrote before, let it pass another 50 years and a silly rocket over
Japan will appear harmless.
That depends on who I am deaking with.

How do you know? How do you know some other country may not have taken over
Korea?
The Japanese got into Korea to keep the Russians from taking Korea in the
first place in 1904.

China.
Sure there would. Ever here of Chiang Kai Shek? Or Mao Tse Tung?

ALL THE TROUBLES..so definite in you mind.
If you think for a moment that the historical
events of the far east during the period from say 1850 until present day can
all be blamed
on one country alone, then you are an ignorant buffoon.

Yes that's right it is big trouble. Do you know why?
It's called the US-Japan Mutual Defense Treaty. Go look it up.
Why do you insist on posting every god damn topic on fj.soc.politics?
I will be happy to verify them.

As ity turns out, Grunt doesn't care about what happened to the Chinese
because he feels that
they are simply not important as Korean people. I'd say that is racism in
anyone's book.

You are still a fucking monkey brained retard but do you feel better?

be taken over anyways.

Japan has occupied and pilaged Korea, Korean resources, and Korean
people.

The point of the matter is that, you minimize whatever Japan may
have done because it happened 50 or so years ago. On the same
token, look at North Korean rocket over Japan some 50 years from
now. Will you consider such North Korean rocket over Japan 50 years
from now a harmless exercise?

absurd statement
that without the Japanese, China would not have been a battlefield.

No I am not minimizing anything, but not because it was 50 years ago
but because it was a time period when colonization was rampant and included
WWII, it can
not be compared to firing a missile over abother country in 1998.
In 1910 the US backed Japan's annexation of Korea. Do you think that today,
the US or
any country would support the annexation of one country by another? Of
course not.
And was shooting a missile over Japan without warning, without provocation
truly nothing
more than a "harmless exzcercise"? I think that depends on how things
develop. The US certainly did not
think it was harmless. Certainly the Japanese populace who had been
anti-military up till then didn't.
And if Japan does go all out militarily, we have no one to thank but North
Korea.
Now, if that is not an imperialistic/colonialistic
statement, I don't know what is.
Let me parphrase you, yes, again. You are essentially saying
that because other nation might have taken over Korea,
Japan was justified for doing so? Not only that, Japan
did a favor to Korea that way so that Russia, France,
Germany, or the US would not? Is that what you are
saying? I will wait for your response with a truck
load of profanity, spinning your own statement that
I misinterpreted your holy statement.
And you are bitching about why Koreans, sans Daniel,
think you are a racist?
Get a grip, child.

OK, "knowledgeable" buffoon, Japan cannot be blamed alone.
There were China, Russia, France, Germany, and the US.
They are all to be blamed. Korea herself was also to
be blamed for being such a weak nation.
My college roommate (a Japanese) used to say
in our argument, and he was right.

What? The US living up to treaties?
Of course it is. We are talking about IMPERIALISM and COLONIALISM from the
1800s into
the early 1900s. Also, it is a question, not a statement.

DON'T FUCKING PARAPHRASE WHICH IS TJHE SAME AS RE-WRITING WHAT SOMEONE
SAYS YOU RETARD.
What I am, saying is that Grunt can not know with any degree of certainty
that
"If Japan had not occupied Korea, Korea would not have suffered.". Maybe yes
and Maybe no.
But certainly the historical facts indicate a good probability that the
Koreans may well
have suffered at the hands of some other power if the Japanese had not
annexed it.
This is NOT A JUSTIFICATION. IT is a rebuttal of Grunts statement.
Do you understand?
> And you are bitching about why Koreans, sans Daniel,

YOU of all people are proof of that.

Actually YES if you want to blame Korea, which I haven't.
Korea was nothing more than a prize in a colonial game platyed by
colonial powers.

Yes, the US does live up to it's treaty obligations.
I know I know....you HATE America and you think America does not.
Fine..but at least will you admit that the United States does uphold its
treaties
if it is in it's own benefit to do so?

I wouldn't make any comments on your other points, but, to some
extent, I do agree with you that China's trouble started by Japan's
invasion of China (1931~1937~1945). If the Japanese had not pushed
China to the corner to wage a devastating war, the Chinese commies
would have been totally annihilated by 1936~37. It was Japan who
saved the Chinese commies in 1937 and put off China's progress to
democracy and modernization for at least 100 years. In fact, although
not a policy of Japanese government, there were some evidences showing
that some Japanese officers/officials intentionally avoided engaging
the Chinese commies' force in its rear front of north China and east
China, which resulted in commie force's stunning expanding from
barely 30,000 people in 1937 to half million in 1939 and 1.5 million
in 1945. Using those forces, the Chinese commies first grabbed
Manchuria and north/east China and then conquered the whole China in
1949. Why did some Japanese IJA officers violate the anti-commie
order and let the Chinese commies to get fatter? because, especially
after 1941, the Japanese wanted to see a divided and ever-fighting
China by letting the weaker one (the Chinese commies) stronger while
hitting the Chinese government army very hard in that war.

This kind of story line is quite familiar. Past Japan apologists in
soc.culture.korean have tried the same: if not for Japan, some other
powerful country might have taken over Korea, so what's big deal.
It's not a big deal at all. You are the one who made the bold statement
implying that no other country
would have taken over Korea, if Japan had not at that time.
YOU can't know this, and neither can I.
But based on historical events at that time, there is obviously a high
probabilty that your statement is
dead wrong. Period.
Actually, I don't know where USA is going with the above.
Of course, we have no idea what could've happened,
had Japan not occupied Korea. One doesn't have
to be a genius like you to figure that out.
The following options were possible.
1) It could've been swallowed by Russia
2) It could've been swallowed by China
(doubt it since they had their own problems)
3) It could've been swallowed by France
and today Koreans could be eating
Freedom Fries and Freedom Toasts.
4) It could've been swallowed by the US
and Koreans would be like Puetro Ricans today
5) It could've found a way of wiggling out
and stayed independently like Siam did
What are you suggesting? Earlier you suggested
that Koreans should be thankful to Japan because
they did not let Korea to be taken over by
the likes of Russia or America.
Is that what you mean?
Not at All. GRUNT made a statement that was definitive and absolute. That if
Japan had not
colonized Korea then no other country would have.
My position is that no one knows that, and we all know the kind of colonial
power plays that were
going on at that time in the region.
You Kay, with your list of "possible" things that may have happened, just
supported what
I have been saying.
Thank you.
