Firewire help for JVC camcorder plase

Hi,

I just got a digital camcorder and was advised to get a firewire - Have
done, but am stuck

Only firiewire port i have is on my audigy 2 soundblaster, both on the
internal board and the external box. Can these allow me to transfer movies
to the pc or do i need extra software

You'll be able to transfer video, but you need an editing program to be able
to do anything with it......

I've also just bought a digital camcorder made by JVC . i also purchased a
firewire card .. I bought this camcorder cheap as it was the floor model ..
do you need the driver for the particular model??.. I'm waiting for a
response in regards to software and manuals as they were missing

Yes, you will need some sort of video editing software. Pinnacle Systems
Studio DV is what I use. If you have Windows XP, you should be able to use
Windows MovieMaker (located in Start/All
Programs/Accessories/Entertainment). There are a lot of different programs
out there. Studio is probably the most popular. Both Roxio Easy CD & DVD
Creator 6 and Nero 6 Ultra Edition support DV authoring. When buying
software, pay particular attention to the System Requirements. These are
bare minimums. 1.6 GHz CPU for-real time DV Capture and 512 MB Memory will
give you good performance. You'll need a large hard drive. 4GB for every 20
minutes of video captured (DV quality). Optimally, a secondary hard drive
just for video is the best. I use 2 Western Digital 120GB w/8MB cache hard
drives.
