Misato and joining NERV.

I was watching Ep. 5 when the subject of Gendou's burnt hands comes
up, and something occurred to me; when Ritsuko says, "It happened before
you joined.", did she mean just Shinji, or both him and Misato?

Only Shinji was meant. I can conclude that from a later episode (you'll find
out) without knowing Japanese.

Cool, thanx. I confirmed this by consulting an Eva FAQ. This brings
up a point; kinda strange that Misato, being the Childrens' immediate
superior officer, wasn't there for Rei's activation test, since she does
seem to be around for a lot of that kind of thing with Shinji and Asuka.

Misato only really got involved with the pilots when Shinji arrived
and she volunteered to pick him up from the station. This was the only
reason that she ended up becoming his guardian in the first place. She
never really has much contact with Rei anyway...

Before this, she had very little to do with the technical side of
NERV, she only started taking an interest because Shinji and Asuka
were now her responsibility. Perhaps Shinji himself wanted her to be
there during the tests...
