I realise that its probably just a bullshit theory that some crackpot
pulled out of thin air and proposed on a messageboard that Amanda
Winn-Lee happened to be reading, but does ANYONE have any clue
whatsoever as to where this idea came from and what it was based on?
I have watched the series in its entirity over the last couple of days
with this in mind and I cannot find a single piece of evidence that
even *hints* that Kaworu has any relationship with Ritsuko whatsoever.

You are absolutely correct. Kaworu could be considered Rei's brother,
but in fact, Rei is a clone while Kaworu is not. They even look alike.
The person who stated that fact is just talking nonsense.

For some reason, to me he and Haruko from FLCL look alike. I mean, make
Kaworu a girl, change his hair and eye color, and you got Haruko. Kinda
like Shinji looking like Nadia, I guess.

Tomo: Human bodies are lighter than water, so we should be able to float
even if we don't do anything.
Osaka: Really? But if that's true, no one would die from drowning.
Tomo: Their bodies always float to the top.
Osaka: I see. I should be a corpse!

What, does Sadamoto have a set of stock character designs he then modifies
for each series? That does explain why I felt a similarity between Asuka,
Mamimi and Yukino. But then, how do you explain Mahoro?

Man.. there's something to put the fan girls into a dilemma!
on one hand a theory like this puts thoughts into one's mind of Keel
being very bishounen in his much younger years.
on the other hand a theory like this presents the thought of Kaworu
becoming an ugly old bastard and completely losing his bishounen-ness.

Can you even make a male clone from a female donor? I'm not totally sure how
it works, but I don't think you can do that.

You'd think that when putting together a "running commentary" of a movie
they'd sit down and get their heads together at what they want to leave for
posterity, and write a good outline of major points to touch, and make a
note to themselves to the effects of : " If not know, then not talk" ..
Respectfully, too many of those commentaries (on too many productions,
including Hollywood mainstream) sound like they just opened the mic on 3
guys sitting in their living-room couch and told them to free-associate for
the next two hours, and that was it, no chance to go over.

Really. One basic justification for the latter is, if K is created the same
way as Rei, it was necessary to use the clone of a human as basis for the
body, and it would stand to reason Kaworu had to be created from a male
(higher-animal clones are all the same sex AFAIK)
My crackpot theory:
There exist in that universe, pre-completion, two " natural" classes of
ensouled creature: "Genesis Beings" -- Adam, Lillith, the Angels proper --
and humans. Both actually the same species in different modes of existence.
Then there are " artificial" beings, created by man:
The EVAs, have the bodies of Genesis Beings ( taken from the flesh of Adam:
Eva = Eve; as opposed to separate and equal creation of Lillith, in the
cabbalistic myth) , but can contain all or part of the soul or life-force of
a human that animates them (or its dummy-plug simulation). Two of them
actually absorbed one soul -- EVA1 contains Yui (absorbed completely, even
the body); EVA2 contains part of Kyoko. This enables them to "awaken" on
their own and go to the " berserker" mode (as EVA2 starts to in EoE)
Rei and Kaworu are made from the flesh of humans, but contain all or part of
the soul or life-force of a Genesis being (thus they both can have
detectable ATs unaided -- as happens at Terminal Dogma) . Rei being
apparently Yui's clone + some of Lillith's life-force, with my unsupported
speculation being that Kaworu is created as an attempt to have some of
Adam's life-force into a Keel-based physique; both being in great measure an
attempt at having a totally controlled entity be the "living complement" to
the EVAs. In both cases the plan gets thrown for a loop: one by Gendo's own
agenda, the other by the Angel of Free Will.
There's a whole series based on a premis that you cannot make female
clones from males. It has something to do with males missing a
chromozome. Males are XX, females are XY.
Actually, I just had a rather disturbing concept: Combining the final three
episodes of NGE with FLCL. Scary, huh?
Vaughn L.Porter
Only, how do you get Asuka to drape
herself
all over Shinji, and call him
'Tai-kun'?
Sorry, but I think that males are XY and females XX
Bye ;D
[SLB++]
Actually, Males are XY and Females are XX, each give a chromozome when
creating a child, The Female side can only give X, where the Male side
can give either X or Y, which defines the gender, (X Female, Y Male)
Could this be the reason on why the clones are females? I wonder what
could happen if a new born gets two YY chromozomes

Weren't those criminals in Alien 3 supposed to be double Y chromosome?
I guess a life of crime is what you'd have to look forward to if you
go by that theory.

The other way round. M = XY. F = XX. But there are always exceptions in nature as there are XY
females (no, not shemales you warped individual you) and XYX males. Strange but true.

No, they are men, but they tend to be menally unstable.
