What if Shinji had lost that first battle? If the Angel had gotten into
Terminal Dogma it would have found Lillith, not Adam (like
Kaoru did much later). What would have the Angel have done? Waited for
Kaji to arrive with Adam? :-) Why did it attack NERV
rather than attack SEELE where Adam was before Kaji and Asuka arrived?

Just wondering if I've missed something in the series.

Even Kaoru didnt know it wasnt adam till closer inspection. They may be
angels but nothing's to say they know everything now!

At a guess I'd say because they know the Geofont is a key point in 3rd
Impact.
Though since everyone calls it Liliths egg later on you'd think thed figure
it out sooner.

Another point, Kaoru only went for lillith because he was told by SEELE adam
was there. So naturally he would have no reason to doubt.
