The short answer is "yes" to getting a photo quality printer. Even if you
are using your camera for snapshots you will want a photo printer. I use a
Canon S900 with Canon Pro Paper and it prints fast with great colors. There
are probably comparable Epson's and others.
Pictures typically look better on the screen and then you print them out
only to be disappointed.

Our business use the hp cp1700s and 2230 and print tabloid graphics with
good clarity 2400x1200 maximum resolution. Depending on the paper we could
print 1200x1200 with good results.
Why they call printers photo printers is beyond me.
Buy printers that you can use single colour cartridges.
Your ink costs are what you need to be concerned with. We use third party
continuous ink feeds, getting two years on one filling running approximately
10,000 copies tabloid. The initial costs are prohibited to most but we get
approx. 5x original.
I can send you a picture sample if you would like. Email me off group if
you want. I will send you a picture sample of 1200x1200 and you would think
it was 4800x4800.
Don't worry I don't sell in England or where-ever so I will not bug you.
