Konnichiwa, everyone!

My name is Steven Schultz, I'm a musician from California, in Tokyo
studying nihongo.

I just moved to Tokyo 3 weeks ago. But already I've been to 3 punk
shows, a DIR EN GREY live, the ‘gangsta-rap barber shop' in shinjuku,
and a gay bar named ‘blue oyster cult.'

But even though I know some interesting things to do here, I'm always
on the lookout for more stuff. . .i'm sure I haven't even explored
one percent of the city! In particular I'm looking for .....

* supermarkets that sell ‘tasty bite' brand precooked Indian meals (I
know QUEEN'S CHEF has some, but not the kind I like!) . . .or
tofu-burgers, veggie meals, etc.

*how do I get in the audience for HEY HEY HEY MUSIC CHAMP? (or any
other tv show, for that matter?)

*Is there a store that sells second-hand stuffed animals? Because all
my favorite Sanrio characters have been discontinued!

*Where are the famous ‘indoor skiing' and ‘indoor surfing' shops?

*And, where can I find underground performance art shows?

*What about ‘noise' concerts?

*And where can i buy‘print club' purikura magazines made by high
school students? Maybe they don't do it anymore. . . but there must
be a ‘furuhon-ya' that sells old ones.

Anyway, if someone can help me find even ONE of these things, I'll be
your friend for life!!

Also, I'm keeping a sort of online journal since i moved here.

I know, online journals are horrible. . .but there's so much cool
stuff here, I just have to keep a record of everything unusual or
humorous that I find. Yes, there are pictures.

If you've lived here for a long time, I suppose you won't be as easily
impressed as me. . . , but chances are you'll find SOMETHING new and
bizarre. . . for instance, they have karaoke versions of SLAYER
songs.

So if you want to read more, here is my link:

and the link to my other japan trip (it's got lots of photos of visual
kei, cosplay, new-half, the Hello Kitty theme park, and even a robot
convention )

http://www.harmful.org/homedespot/japanweb/japanindex.html

anyway, thanks for reading,

steven

Was that meant as a threat?

Kaldi (south of Ogikubo's South exit) has some, but maybe the same
selection because I suspect the importer doesn't import any others. But
why settle for boil-in-the-bag curries when there's a vegetarian Indian
restaurant in the same street? Their lunch-time special is Y945 for all
you can eat of four curries, rice, salad, and naan (and if you tell them
you don't eat dairy, they'll do you a chapatti instead).

I haven't explored tofu-burgers much, but the only ones I've encountered
were held together with minced chicken or sardine.

Uh.... I think I could survive without that.... Please?

Good luck. By the way, it's called Ying-Yong.

I hope you enjoy your honeymoon period.

I'm a veggie. Don't eat the tofu-burgers. The tofu comes from cows.

As for veggie meals, I know this thing called cooking.

Being a teenage Japanese girl seems to be the only requirement.

Ask your neighbours about recycle shops.

Probably indoors.

I thought the whole point is you can't.

> *What about ?noise' concerts?

If you stop one of those big black vans with the Japanese flags pasted
all over them and ask them to switch on their speakers, I am sure they
will oblige.

Try Department H. I'm sure you will find friends more suitable to our

Sort of like a toned-down version of the fjlij get-togethers?

There are two guys standing on the stage wearing nothing but their shoes and
socks, and the first thing the Japanese guy wants to ask the foreigner is:
"Do you like natto?" :-o

I think the Japanese guy is saying:

"So the gaijin slab thing was a hoax after all."

Certainly looked that way in the pictures, didn't it?

If he likes natto, he will swallow anything.
