I don't know, but perhaps then he shouldn't be called the Professor...
but rather The Doctor!

I am. Unfortunatly the American stations (north east anyway) have almost
completly stopped showing it. I'm in the process of rereading and organising
the 200+ books based on the episodes.
Fav Doctor? 4th, Tom Baker ruled
Fav Companion? Romana, Proud enough to end up looking a bit silly
sometimes and smart enough to catch the Doctor at "making it up as he goes"
when he claims its a plan.
Welll... Either Leila or Ace (can't seem to remember which one) does
call him "Professor" :-)

Used to watch it all the time in the 70's-80's. Now wondering how The
Doctor would stop Third Impact.
They have. My home when I'm not in college is Baltimore, and MPT still
shows it, every Saturday night, at midnight, in 'movie' form (where
several episodes are amalgamated). That's the only way I was able to
get into it... though I have since bought two of the DVDs.
I agree that Tom Baker is without a doubt the best Doctor, though
almost all of them have their merits.
Side note: Tom Baker's autobiography, "Who on Earth is Tom Baker?" is
well worth reading. It's quite entertaining and thought-provoking --
but don't miss that he glosses over abandoning his first wife and
infant children in his younger years. Even with that stain, he comes
off as having quite an interesting life to tell about.

My bet would be Ace, just because I'm not sure Leela would know what a
professor was. On the other hand, I haven't seen much of the Sylvester
McCoy era.

Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow, of course!

I'd just like to chime in and make you all insanely jealous. Channel
2 here in Australia has just starting to show all the Dr Who episodes,
starting with the very first one. At 4 episodes per week we should be
finished in about 2.75 years.

I'm very happy about this also, but I can't pick up ABC in my bedroom :(

And now I've just discovered that November will mark the Doctor's 40th
anniversiary (and still no new series...). I know what I'll be doing
on Thanksgiving break.
