Hmmm. This sounds interesting... very interesting...

Could be very good, or very, very bad.

I have contacted ADV, GAINAX and the original author of the article
and requested further information and clarification. I will post any
reply as soon as I recieve it.

I see one MAJOR thing missing here - an actual MOVIE studio. Without
the financial backing that one of those can bring anything that Gainax
and ADV can put together will be lower budget than, say, Babylon 5. And
just how much can the Weta Workshop do on that sort of shoestring?

And, besides, do we really need a live action NGE? I can see the
Children now, traipsing around in their new black leather plug suits (a
la the X Men movies) and Shinji muttering lines like "Guns. Lots of
guns."

And, unless some Japanese studio finances it (which will mean Americans
probably won't go to see it), do you really think an American studio is
going to go with a cast that is utterly Japanese? Let's see... Asuka
can be complete German this time, but that silly Japanese name will have
to go, so call her... Valkirie. And Rei... let's ditch that whole
socially and sexually uncomfortable clone thing and give her the skin
tone and street smarts of someone from the 'hood. And speaking of
sex... Shinji, or whatever they call him (Stevie, for example) will
have to have scored with at least one of them by the movie's half way
point. And you can just FORGET about any innuendo with that Kaworu
character... Etc, etc, etc.

It could turn into a worse fiasco than the Thunderbirds movie is shaping
up to be.

Some things are better left ALONE.

What?!? Are the Andersons still alive? Did they sanction this? What
next? A Captain Scarlet movie?!

Hopefully such things will go the way of the stalled Fantastic Four
movie.

Here's the Internet Movie Database entry:

http://us.imdb.com/Title?0167456

Note the director: Jonathan Frakes. Then check out the cast list.

The only cool thing about the casting is Ben Kingsley as The Hood.

Yes. Sylvia and Lady Penelope even showed up on "Absolutely Fabulous" a
few years back.

I don't think so. I believe they sold the rights years ago.

LOL. Could be worse... could be SuperCar.

Get the Wachowski Brothers in on it, WB will bend over backwards for them.
It'll be the next Titanic: $US200 million plus budget, huge sets in NZ, and
starring (presuming they go with an international cast:)

Hugo Weaving as Gendo
Natalie Portman as Rei
Hugh Jackman as Kaji
Brittany Murphy as Asuka
Carrie-Anne Moss and Misato
Sigourney Weaver as Ritsuko
and Elijah Wood as Shinji

I disagree. Samuel L. Jackson as Gendo. Or maybe Ben Kingsley. Gendo
has to be suave or cool to be really EVIL.

> Natalie Portman as Rei

Yuck... No, we don't need no stinking Star Wars taint. Besides, Rei
should have a soft, tranquil voice, not a mousy squeak. AND she isn't
enough of a babe. Let her stay at Hahvahd.

Gigi Edgley might be able to pull off a passable Rei. She looks good
with the weird eye color & pale short-bob hair thing going, but is she
BABE enough?

No, he's not tall and dorky enough.

Too old. Besides, we need a German gal like Eva Habermann for this one,
but she's too old too.

Too old. How about that Dark Angel chic, Jessica Alba? Or is she too
young?

Hmmm... Claudia Black... Hmmm...

Noooooooo!!!

Now I won't be able to sleep tonight :-)

We don't need no 'politically-correct' Americanised version with an
'international cast' of overage hollywood superstars, a heartless
actionhero story and a bloody feel good ending. No sir, we don't!

Here's a thought (fanfic anyone?): A new Reboot episode, "Freon

cooling system is out of whack. A game cube descends while Bob, et al are
trying to fix
the fridge. The game is... drum roll please, "Girlfriend of Steel"!
Characters all reboot as:

Enzo - Shinji
Dot - Misato
Bob - Kaji
AndrAi - Asuka
Megabyte - Gendo
Hexadecimal - Ritsuko
Mike the TV - Magi
Phong - Kihl
Hack - Unit 01
Slash - Unit 02
Mouse - Rei

The user has 17 Angels to try to cause the Third Impact. These range
from Rocky the

Anyone who reads slashdot would have seen this posted also.
Personally, I don't think it'll fair too well. I mean, not all of the
effects that made the battle scenes so cool can be done sans CGI. That
means lots of $$$ involved which ADV probably doesn't have. Of course,
if they make a dub, they'll probably fuck up the translastions
_ANYWAY_, so they better have a subtitled edition available (which
they won't). In the end, it would be better if it didn't get made at
all, considering all the craptastic comic->live action conversions
(Daredevil, anyone).

They did a third and then a fourth season. The third season was released
on 4 DVD's by ADV and is by far the best. For more information, you can
check alt.tv.reboot. The regulars there have excellent websites.

For those of you who don't know me, which is probably all of you since
this is my first post ;), allow me to introduce myself. I lurk around
ATR (alt.tv.reboot) and now here, too (BTW thanks to Pen^3 for the very
helpful FAQ, which was the first thing I read after subscribing to the
newsgroup). I'm a student, work at the local computer repair shop, and
program games in my spare time.

I subscribed to the newsgroup after watching the series, which I think
was excellent until Rei II died. Then the whole thing went downhill. I
think the ending sucked =(

If this is gonna work, I think they need to focus on Misato, she has the most
to offer in a script that will appeal to a general audience in america. The
whole 14 year old kid thing will turn off viewers, or if not that, it will make
for a poor film in my opinion. Can you say you would go see any teen focused

If we're going Western actors here, Jeremy Irons gets my Gendou vote any day
of the week.

Natalie Portman could do /so/ much more with a decent director (which George
Lucas is not). I think she could pull off a Rei. And I'm just going to
ignore fanboy comments about actresses not being hot enough. *rolls her
eyes*

Uh...Hugh Jackman's 6'3. Plenty tall enough to play Kaji. And Kaji isn't
dorky! *whacks* (Plus I'd pay money to see Hugh Jackman in /anything/.
*swoons*)

Definitely not Carrie-Anne Moss. /So/ not Misato. Ashely Judd has popped
into my mind and stuck. Can go from very playful to very dramatic..

Y'know, I've seen glimpses of Gregory Smith from the WB show 'Everwood,' and
he seems quite a talented actor besides fitting my mental picture perfectly.
Great haunted type of look about him. Playing down his looks a little is
easy enough.

In my opinion focusing on Misato is the best point to make the movie from
period no matter at what point, she is the most compelling of the characters.
