I am thinking about purchasing the Pentax Optio 550 digital camera but
before I do I would like some advice if you believe that this would be a
good purchase. If there is some other camera you recommend please pass on
your advice.
Thanx

I just purchased and sold a Kyocera S5 5 megapixel (as fast as I could for
$250 loss). What a poor excuse for a human interface! It stunk in every
aspect My fuji 1400 1 megapixel took pictures just a good.
Optio 550
The light sensitivity is much better. The zoom is great. The camera is
easier than the Kyocera to hold. (A little larger though) The LioN battery
lasts for a long time!!!
The panoramic picture assist and software works well. I handheld a panoramic
of my deck and ran it through the supplied software...AWESOME! 360 degree
pics with scrollabilty.
The shhutter delay is a little slower than I would like but much...much
better then the Kyocera. A little slower than my Fuji is but still passable.
The camera focuses on the subject matter as you point it. This speeds up the
focusing. The 8 x zoom in the LCD is great for telling if the focus and
detail was right before you leave the scene.
Manual focus is cool. It has an automatic zoom box to manually focus on with
about 4-6 x zoom and then it jumps back to full frame again.
The menus are very ergo IMO and it has definable functioned main joystick
buttons. You can assign almost any frequently used function to each of four
directions.
Double and multiple exposures can be taken with this camera with varying
pixel logic to mask each level. I haven't explored this feature yet so I
can't comment on the techniques or quality.
This is the fourth digital camera I have owned and I am very impressed.
Would I purchase it again? DEFINITE YES!
