HUH?!??!
What a coupla dumb fucks! They were wasting their time chopping up
fish nets in Wakayama? Didn't they know that Wakayama is famous for
it's world class curry. A really sweet lady (wish that I could
remember her nationality), killed four people, including a 10-year-old
boy and a 16-year-old girl with her special Wakayama Curry recipe not
too many years ago.
IMHO those fish-hugging heros could 've gotten a LOT better press
coverage had they gone into Wakayama and chopped up all of the
over-sized なべs that might be used at any festivals there in the
future. What a disgusting waste of time of GAIGENICAL resources.

I make my living using my computer. If someone torn its ribbon cables and
shit on motherboard to protest misuse of sandy beaches I wouldn't only beat
the shit outta him but also fuck him good for messing with my business.
Japanese fisherman were far too passive I think or I'm a little too
aggressive tonight.
Yea, that's what usually happens when you destroy other people's property.
In any country.

if you made a living with your computer directly hunting an endangered
species, expect to have others wanting to look at its motherboard. till then I
think your pretty safe

personally I think its not solely the fishermens fault. I think the government
there is more than a little culpable for propping up a non sustainable
industry (IE one that wouldn't really make it if it relied on straight
economic profits)
perhaps you were a little agressive? move off decaf?

Wanting to beat the shit outta him I can understand, but I'd draw the
line at rooting him.

Emotions aside, those particular nets are used for catching pilot whales
(ゴウドウ鯨), a species that is not endangered, and AFAIK not hunted by
Japanese whalers/fishermen outside their own coastal waters.

More than likely. Taiji's coastal whaling might be profitable and
sustainable, but whale watching and marine tourism in Taiji is a booming
(and much more sustainable) industry. I've been going there about 3
times a year and the changes are fairly noticeable.

Ask the pilot whales what they think about that.
Personally I find the PCB quite nice on the palate.

About not being endangered?
Either way I doubt that we would communicate very well.
Irish aren't endangered so let's hunt them. They don't taste very nice but they
are very oily.

Have another drink.
Kind of like whale meat then.
Anyway to get back to the point, are you advocating that no further
investigation or action be taken against the (alledged) vandals who
(alledgedly) cut the nets?
Haluk's point was that people were working hard trying to make a living
and had their tools of trade vandalised. Obakesan pointed out that if
they were doing something wrong (hunting an endangered species, taking
more of an allowed species than their quota etc) then perhaps some
vandalism should be expected (though not necessarily tolerated). All
I've pointed out is that those particular nets are for pilot whales (for
whichh there is no IWC ban at all), that are not listed as endangered
(by any credible source, many respected environmentalists included), are
protected from overharvesting by quota etc, and are in Japan's EEZ (as
opposed to whales being "sampled" by "research" vessels in Antarctic
waters - something I do oppose). If the vandals wanted to make a point,
there are other (legal/demonstrative/educational) avenues open to them.
Cutting nets and any other willful destruction of property isn't likely
to help their cause over the long term.
If it can be proven (witnesses whatever) that the two under arrest did
vandalise, what should happen to them? My view is that if it were
proven, then rather than prosecute them (they'd milk the publicity),
they will simply be deported.
No, people who carry out civil disobedience protests do so knowing they are
breaking the law and will face prosecution if found out, much in the same way
someone blowing up a police station in Northern Ireland knows he is breaking the
law. You might remember a peaceful group of people were both assaulted then
harrassed by the police recently.
The fact that the species is not endangered matters little to most people, (and
to me). The individuals are endangered.
Rooting? No *that* wasn't what I meant. I meant fuck him good in more Joe
Pesci or Pacino sense... You know standard procedure with bonesaw and
surgical hammer.
Perhaps you have taken my previous dildo humor too seriously. But no, I
ain't no gay :)
I may be wrong but I assume Irish are a little more intelligent than whales.
We can safely hunt and eat Chinese though, throughout the next century...
They are not real environmentalists. Real environmentalist are
working to remove the most anti-environmental U.S. President in
history. These guys are just clowns who want to get their names in
the paper so that they can claim to feeble-minded bleeding hearts,
"See how wonderful we are," and try to collect more donations so that
their clan can keep on puttering on a world junket.
OTOH, they just might be just cowards, not wanting to take on the real
threat.
Anyway, I hope they like miso soup. That'll be their diet for awhile.
