Just bought a Dolphin PowerCam 2.0 Megapixel FASTUSB-1015 and was wondering
if any one else has one of these and what they think of them? Also do you
need a panaromic camera to take panaromic shots?

About your PowerCam, unfortunately I have no idea.

But about taking panoramas:
Some cameras come with something like "Panorama Mode" or "Panorama Assist",
but this is not necessary for making panoramas.
You just need a good software to stitch your to-be-panorama shots together.
And it's quite simple, just follow the software's help on how to take your
shots.

Also, when shooting panoramas it is good practice to lock the aperture at
about 5.6 so all the pictures have the same brightness. Otherwise those
taken into the sun will be dark compared to those taken from the sun.
As for stitching software, I have been using 360 degree freedom that costs
about $250. ptviewer tools has a stitcher for free but it is a bitch to
use. Also, Nikon gives you a stitcher with the Coolpix 4500 but I do not
know if it does the 360 degrees. 360 Degree Freedom stitches the pictures
for a 360 degree view then does the final 360 degree stitch to bring the
ends together. The panoramas can be saved in several formats including mov
for Quicktime or JPG for the ptviewer. The ptviewer applet is free and is
very versatile when the parameters that give hot spot, shotspot, waiting
picture, loading graph, and compass capabilities are utilized.

The panorama software which comes with most of Nikon Coolpix cameras is
"ArcSoft Panorama Maker 3.0", and it's quite a good software.
It has the 360-degree view, and also saves the files as JPEG (and some other
formats)
and QuickTime Movie (*.mov) format.
It also has a FineTune feature, with which you can specify and change the
borders and optimize/customize them.
