It's been awhile.
ADV sucks rocks. Their Eva release was awful. Then again, ADV has
shown that it doesn't have to suck rocks since the release for Full
Metal Panic was pretty good.
I have a copy of the EVA Test Type and the difference between that
disc's Episode 1 and the previous ADV release or the first Japanese
release for that matter was huge.
If they're going to release the redone versions in the US, they should
do it with the packaging and new inserts that they got in Japan.

In a related story, anyone want to buy two very slightly used Director's Cut
DVDs? $16/apiece plus shipping. Email me (yes, that is a real email address
in the header) if interested.

Think I'll hold off until the Platinum set comes out. Thanks, though.

Mr. Anderson, welcome back. We've
missed you.
IMO, considering the recent track record of Manga Ent, we'd probably
be better off with it going to another studio - maybe ADV (if only to
deliver a unified collection).
"Platinum": an innovative spelling of "Renewal"? ;-)
(Some speculated that because "Renewal" included the films, which ADV
doesn't have the rights to, a new set name had to be used.)

"Neon Genesis Evangelion - Platinum: 01 ($29.98 SRP) is a DVD-only
release, featuring the first five episodes in both English 5.1- and
Japanese 5.1- language versions with English subtitles. Extras
include: clean opening and closing animation; Episode: 01 commentary
by director Matt Greenfield; Episode: 02 commentary by Matt Greenfield
and Spike Spencer ("Shinji"); and ADV previews. The first pressing
will include limited edition collector's slipcover packaging and
profile booklets filled with screen shoots, Japanese commentaries and
character profiles."
Ouch... and right after releasing the two DC volumes.
Hope they will retain the video quality, and no messing about with
those overlays! Presumably this also means these Renewal versions may
be available soon elwhere in the world too.

(Wondering if there's any hope the special bonus disc from the JP box
with the deleted live movie segments will ever be included...! )
