People who live in country X are those who enjoy (or tolerate) living in
country X. Country X will have its non-X foreign residents who enjoy living
in X, so people in X will be under the impression that "everyone likes the X
culture". The children of foreign residents will be assimilated into the X
culture, and hailed as "models" of how everyone should be. Foreign residents
will develop an inflated view of themselves as enlightened globetrotters,
even though their countrymen may view them as losers who can't get real jobs
back home.

X's media will talk about X athletes and celebrities, their supposed global
fame. X media will quote statistics that say millions of people worldwide
are studying language X, and how that number is growing by 20% each year
(never mind the millions of people who forget language X every year). X's
religions will similarly have "millions of enthusiastic converts" worldwide.
X's media will be filled with images of X men telling foreigners what to do,
of X heroes saving the world.

Residents of X will advise others that they should visit country X. They
will not hear the perspective of people who can't stand country X so move
away from it, as they are "traitors" or "maladjusted people". They will not
hear the perspective of people who did visit country X but hated it; they
are dismissed as "bigots".

But sometimes they really *are* maladjusted.

But you wouldn't know anything about that, would you.

The history of the world has seen many great scientists, writers, leaders,
dissidents, persecuted minorities, or other emigrants who were judged
"maladjusted" by their countrymen, but fluorished elsewhere.

Of course, the modern world also sees a great many mediocre emigres who lead
a parasitic existence by teaching languages in country X, or becoming a
mascot in country X.

When X is a poor country, there are foreign relief workers who live there,
often from undistinguished backgrounds. X's refugees hail them as folk
heroes, according them demigod status. Some relief workers really get into
X's culture and adopt many God-children, invited to family ceremonies,
treated like rock stars. However, they live in a fragile bubble that may be
shattered by rebel/bandit attacks, when gunmen shoot up the refugee camp and
maim relief workers; local media, run by X nationalists, may hail the
"liberation" from foreign dominance. Or X's economy could improve, leaving
the relief workers without jobs; they either move on to some other poor
country, or become bitter drunkards back home.

Considering who you were replying to, I thought it might be helpful
for him to read the post in his dialect.

In that case shouldn't it read "You are one maladjusted looser you know"?

In my country, all immigrants fluorish. That's because water is
fluoridated. Maybe that's also the reason immigrants tend to fluorish
in USA.

Beware, fluorishing too much might be bad for your health

Parisitic existence? So those eikaiwa chains kidnap hapless Japanese
bypassers and force them to learn English?

Not to mention what about the frustrated, jealous, worthless and
unachieving mediocre language teacher wannabes who take out their
frustrations by trolling life in Japan newsgroups with their pointless
drivelling rants (tantrums)?
