The only correction to my previous muse is that, unlike in 1999, the matches
are being broadcast across all three J Sports channels (306, 307, 308).
There doesn't appear to any 'pattern' to the way the matches are being
allocated to each channel.
Of course it goes without saying that it's a huge rip-off to get you to
subscribe to the 3-channel package. The tournament, conveniently for the
networks, runs well into November so you're looking at two months'
subscription. Nevertheless needs must as the devil stuffs a long, strong,
black pudding, up my sister's cat's arse, twice nightly, violently,
sideways, sliced...sorry...rugby drinking song flashback...
Anyway - I took a second to summarize the schedule for Pool matches in
October

Anyone know of any 'decent' pubs in Tokyo or especially Nagoya where weekend
matches are being shown live? I have the channels - but the ambience is
somewhat lacking - and I'll probably piss off the missus too much.

Aye. Took me about 10 seconds to decide to subscribe.

Red Rock in Sakae, Nagoya is apparently going to show a fair number of
games. Shooters, Elephant's Nest and the other usual suspects as well.
My little bar in Okazaki is hardly decent, and will only show games on
Fridays. And is too far away for you in any case.

Ah..yes...I remember Red Rock - Austrian drink establishment - Brett took me
there once, damn fine hamburgers - and mad women! Watching the games on
Saturday 18th and 25th there could be damn fine fun - afternoon drinking
kicks arse...hold on, national holiday on 13th so Wales vs. Canada on the
12th is a possibility.

Sadly it has gone downhill but still a fine establishment. The new proprietor
tries hard to be friendly and outgoing but it's just a little bit forced
(actually a lot forced), a Kiwi (bar manager?), who Declan knows, has more than
a couple of screws loose, the girls aren't as cute and it has a decidedly more
gaijin-bar feel to it. Still better than anything I've found in Tokyo.

This particular desk has a tap (though only for 15L kegs).
The kiwi? - I think its not so much a case of I know him, as he knows
(of) me. If its the bloke I'm thinking of then its a guy I sold a
language course to about 7 years ago. The new owner (Mark) seems to have
bought the place because he used to like drinking in it and couldn't
bear the thought of seeing the place go. Bars have been bought for
stranger reasons.

So what? Bryan's has a fap.
Quite regularly. Here at My little bar in
Kawasaki.

A 15 Liter fap is kinda impressive. Dash of blue curacao not withstanding.

Luckily, England will choke early enough for you to consider only a one
month subscription.
At least Canada's laughable effort can be viewed here on basic cable; no
extra charges involved.

Choke? Probably. But they will still be in the competition November 1st,
so those of us dreading/expecting/looking forward to the traditional
choke need a two month subscription if we are to see it.

Could this particular laughable effort see a win over Italy though?
And why does Canadia always seem to be placed in the same pool as Nuziland?
Which would of course be more relevant if I were supporting England. Sadly,
no. I have the lot of Job and must forever be an dedicated follower of
Wales. England, I believe, will go all the way this time - it is the burden
that the Celtic nations must face. And after recently watching Simon
Schama's "A History of Britain" (all 15 episodes at 700mb each) I have a
somewhat improved understanding of just why the Welsh hate the English so
much - and it's NOT just because of the toll bridges..

True enough. The choke won't come until the following weekend against the
All-Blacks.

Signs are not good. The team has played horribly most of the past two years.
OTOH, the team always seems to be at its worst leading into the RWC. There's
always the chance of wins over Wales, Tonga, and Italy and a QF berth
against South Africa but I think there's an even better chance of an 0-4
finish. Either way, at least it won't cost any extra to watch.
> And why does Canadia always seem to be placed in the same pool as Nuziland?
I don't know; hard to answer that question since this is the first time
they've been in the same pool and will be only their second ever RWC meeting
(after the 1991 quarter-final, won 29-13 by the All-Blacks.)
Phew! No chance of a choke when expectations are already rock-bottom. Come
back Graham Henry, all is forgiven.

It's not as big a burden as England's predictable chokes in "their" sports
of football, rugby, and cricket. Fear not, Celtic sympathiser, the boys in
white will not be around, come championship day.
I think you will need to wait at least one more week than that. The
chances of England coming second in Group C? My guess (hope) is the
choke will occur around 9pm local time on Sunday 16th against the French
in Sydney.

That is the only Canadia game I've ever watched - I had no recollection
of it being a QF though. Only thing I recall was a rolling maul by
Canadia's forwards that pushed the blix back around 30-40 yards or so,
and had almost the whole crowd urging them on (including a few Nuzilanders).

The first choke is when they lose to an underperforming Springbok team in
group play. This will be followed by a spanking at the hands of the
All-Blacks.

It was one of Canada's finest moments in their rugby history. The fact that
they were pretty close to pulling off the RWC's greatest upset until a late
AB surge makes the recent Canadian efforts seem even more disappointing in
comparison.
