I am sure this group has been bombarded with questions of this nature
countless times, so I will be brief.
My situ:
29 year male, conversational Japanese, Applied Science degree halfway
complete, 8 years IT support experience.
My goal:
Work in Tokyo, for Investment Bank - IT support.
Question:
Will a lack of a completed degree rule me out totally from a work visa
sponsorship? I don't seem to fit too neatly into any of the listed
categories eg
professor, researcher, skilled labour etc etc. I heard somewhere that if you
have enough work experience, then you may get around the degree requirement.
Could anyone put me in touch with a headhunter/recruitment agent who is in
the know in Tokyo?
Thanks, any advice is appreciated.

Your question should really be: Are there any jobs in IT support for
investment banks in Tokyo?
Answer: That whole job market has dried up. Moreover, I don't think
many companies are willing to sponsor given that there is plenty of
talent available locally. Since you don't have a 4 year university
degree, it would be a long shot. What country are you from and where
did you study?
Send me your resume and I'll pass it on to a headhunter that I know.
Best of luck,

The basic rule is:
1) undergraduate degree or higher OR
2) minimum 10 years experience in specified field
Lately the Immigration Bureau (in Nagoya at least) folks have been a
little more flexible regarding (2) owing to skill shortages in some
fields. Whether they would be as flexible in Tokyo I've no idea, though
I suspect not. It would be easier (and wiser) to finish off the degree.

My work visa says:
Date of Issue: May '03
Date of Expiry: May '08
For Stays of: 3 Years
So is my work visa a 3 year work visa or a 5 year work visa?
