Since I have installed windaube XP?I have tons of new bugs?I'll get used to
most of them.
The serious problem is the USB 2.0 plugs no longer work (and for me a
computer without USB plugs is totally useless). 6 plugs at the same
time, that's certainly not a mechanical problem.
If someone could tell me what to do or what to download, I'd be eternally
grateful.
Can I do it by changing parameters in XP or in the BIOS ? (the BIOS knows
there are USB plugs and things like CD players on them, XP ignores them
completely, why don't they talk to each other ?)
On the windows update page, they talk a Greek dialect I have not studied.
How do they call "USB 2.0 drivers" or "USB 2.0 patch for X.P." or whatever
?

First and foremost have you installed Service Pack 1 for WinXPee? If this
was a recently 'purchased' copy of Windows XPee then service pack 1 would
have been included. If it's a somewhat 'financially challenged' version or
something you picked up off eBay then perhaps it's a pre-SP1 release.
Pre-SP1 XP doesn't much care for USB 2.0. Is the USB 2.0 on the motherboard
or is it on a PCI card. Either way there should be XPee drivers on the
supplied cd-rom and/or the maker's homepage. If the motherboard or PCI card
was purchased in Japan then there'll be driver downloads at the
manufacturer's homepage. BTW ignore the warning message that the driver is
not digitally signed.
SP1 - is available at the Windows Security Flaw....sorry....Update page - it
takes a while to install. DO NOT TRY installing SP1 over an 'unaltered'
'challenged' copy of XPee.

> First and foremost have you installed Service Pack 1 for WinXPee?
I'm trying to. That does not work well、it seems I can't get everything,
after 3 trials the drivers are still not installed... Maybe because my
connection is too slow, or their package is too big, or....
I certainly don't need 90% of that package's gadgets. If I could find a
download for only the USB drivers...

It's a "normal" XP Home edition version. I've bought it months ago and
forgot it in a corner until my late computer stopped working.
That wouldn't have worked the day I bought it...USB 2.0 is 2 years anterior
to that version and to the conception of my motherboard They didn't bother
to include the drivers and they indicate in "read me" files : go to windows
update...
That's what I hate with those stuff. Suppose you are not connected to
internet, don't want to, don't need to, because you use the computer for
something else (only for watching DVDs and projecting teaching material,
like at one place were I work), there is no way . Normally, they expect you
to call the maintenance service, pay and say arigato.

On the motherboard.
I also have a PCI card (for the old computer) but can't use it as I have no
slot for the card, do you think the drivers of that card would work ? I'll
try that next month if I don't find a solution before. And if that doesn't
work, I'll install a PCI slot.

Bought all that in Osaka.
Nothing on the motherboard CD (except an invitation to win update), They
don't give any homepage adress, but I haven't yet looked for one on google.
That's a good idea.
In my "textbook", they warn about that bug and give an adress of an Intel
page. An adress that does not work...The Intel flaw site is like the one of
windows in worse : they send me to the same win page again and again. So I
download again and again....
Anyway, thank you for trying to help me.

I used to use a second hand computer that came with Windows XP from the
back alleys of Akihabara over a year ago. It had no problems in recognizing
USB2 or any other hardware, however. Does this mean that the Service Pack 1
has already been included? After all, it was not a legitimate OS... (unless
it is a copy of an unregistered original). Somebody mentioned that bootleg
copies of Win XP will not accept the Service Pack.
After buying 2 new computers with Win XP (English and Japanese), I noticed
something when using TrueImage 6.0 (from Acronis). There was no problem with
the new computers, but I had problems with the old machine. Could it be
possible that the lacking Service Pack causes this problem? Since I am not
sure whether it is already included, how can I check that?
In the worst case I can still go back to Win2000 for my old "domestic
model"... since it isn't worth to sink more money in an old clunker which is
hardly used.

In my experience after installing XPee (pre SP1) on a homebuilt computer
with USB 2.0 on the motherboard it recognised every component except the USB
2.0 device.
It was a simple matter of finishing the installation. Connecting to Windows
Update, and downloading and installing Service Pack 1. Actually I tell a
lie....I had already previously downloaded the entire service pack 1. It's
a little known fact that at Windows Update you can actually download all the
updates as if you were downloading a program from www.download.com and then
save the updates to a directory of your choice. I did this for SP1 some
time ago - when it was first released in fact.
Unfortunately, the SP 1 was on my external USB 2.0 hard disk so the new
computer was unable to read it. However I had also copried it to an older
firewire/USB 1.1 external hard disk so I installed it from that device. I
could have just downloaded it again from Windows Update, but this was on a
friend's computer and we were assembling the machine on his kitchen table a
long way from his ADSL connection! Anyway, once SP1 was installed the
computer had no trouble recognising the USB 2.0 port, hub and the external
hard disk when connected.

If you tell me the motherboard manufacturer - the name and model number of
the motherboard usually appers in the first couple of lines of the on-screen
BIOS routine when you switch on the computer. You may have to switch it on
twice since the monitor sometimes doesn't 'kick-in' until you are half way
through the BIOS the first time - I can probably track down any driver
updates for it.

you're welcome - but be aware - I'm obviously carrying a bit of bad karma at
the moment. I've had three hard disks fail on me in the last 6 weeks. One
40 gig internal 24 hours after transferring the 28 gigs of MP3 files from
it - phew! One on a 'managed' friend's notebook - two weeks after I made a
complete copy of her entire drive to my computer - phew! And the
aforementioned external USB 2.0 40 gig notebook-sized disk - in the UK -
just after I had copied all my holiday photos from my digital camera to the
drive - but before I'd deleted them form the memory sticks....

"Never give a gun to ducks"
This is true. The now infamous 'FCKGW' copy of XPee Corporate that was
first 'published' way back in June 2001 (I think) - 4 months before the
official XPee release - is now spotted by Windows Update for the dodgy thing
it is. SP1 can't be installed over it (or so I read on a toilet wall). But
of course there were 'cracks' for this available even before SP1 was
released - or so some guy down the pub told me....he was wearing an anorak.
This knowledgeable anorak-wearing guy with trainspotting guide book in hand,
also told me that you should check out the usually sites - he said that
supernova is a pretty good site, assuming you are comfortable with
'bittorrents'.

Right click 'My Computer', Properties. It should say on the first page
under 'System' - Service Pack 1.

I suspected that. If you had tried to download that pack with an ISDN
connection, you'd have failed a couple of times... Now, I'm downloading the
parts one by one. That takes hours. 70% already done since yesterday.

Idem for me with coffee makers, 3 crashed last month....You can always buy a
new hard disk in a part stores, but they sell the glass tubes of siphon
coffee makers more expensive than the whole machine.

And not for a Japanese PC maybe....
That doesn't work for me because the SP1 from this site is in English and
the XP in Japanese. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
Maybe I'm going to Yodobashi Camera and tell them that they have the choice
between exchanging my altmodish XP (bought in January 2003, it should have
contained the update) against a new one or giving me that SP1 update on a
CD.

Got a friend with a broadband connection? I found the homepage for your
motherboard.
http://www.liteontc.com.tw/pcbu/nr120.htm or http://tinyurl.com/nta2 if the
former gets cut up in the posting.
You can do a whole lot worse than downloading all the available drivers for
your particular motherboard and then extract all the files to a directory.
Fire up the device manager program and make it search for USB 2.0 drivers in
the aforementioned directory.
If that fails to sort out USB 2.0 then I'm happy to send you a copy of SP1
on cd-rom - though it will be in English. I checked out the Japanese
Windows Update page but couldn't find a link for just downloading catalog
items. Maybe someone else knows where to get them.
