I am wondering how to enable raw format support in a coolpix 4500.
Apparently there is a software program that can achieve this for the coolpix
4500. Anyone attempted this and is it worth it? I don't like the idea of
compression in the jpeg files in the coolpix and the tiff format is huge at
10 mb a picture!
thanks,
rc
Really? That would cool! Let me know if you find out anything more!
It would be cool not for the file size which will be about the same
as Tiff but it may contain deeper color information.
Where did you hear this?
Got any links to the sourse of that information?

RAW formats are usually huge too...
Actually, when I owned a Canon G1 the raw image file size was about 1/4 the
size of the Nikon Coolpix Tiff file size. I could fit about 80 raw images on
a IBM 384 meg Microdrive. On the 256 meg card I have for the Nikon I could
fit about 25 Tiff images. . . ouch! Something that really bothered me when I
bought the camera and still does bother me; not to mention they aren't even
raw images.
I don't have any links; that's what I am asking for. When I find out more I
will be more than willing to share!

Yeah some RAW formats use lossless compression... Probably RLE ot LZH...
The good news is that 1gig cards have come way down in price. I see them
here and there for $100 ~ $150 in the shops. Hagiwara Denki seems to be
the cheepest maker. And they're a pretty good company too -- about 20 miles
from my house -- done some contract work for them on occation.
