get the dvd box set if you can(or any set of them, tapes laserdisc or
otherwise). then get the two movies later. It's well worth it. but get the
episodes first, if you don't like them, then there is no point in getting
the movies.

They chopped several things out of it, but not as bad as episode 2.

SSSHHHHHHHH!!!! Don't give Anno (the writer) ideas!

The 26 TV episodes are the bulk of the story. The two OAVs are
the ending.
(Well, actually, 'End of Evangelion' is the ending, and probably
the only one you need to get.)

(works jaw, trying to overcome speechlessness and say something useful)
Not EXACTLY giant robots blasting each other. Depending on your
point of view, NGE is either a groundbreaking, thought-provoking
anime full of subtlty, conspiracy, and character development, with
lots to say on the human condition; or pretentious, vacuous pap,
the self-indulgent ramblings of a mentally ill man.
Possibly both.
Either way, don't watch Evangelion if you're easily depressed.
A suggestion: Perhaps you should get an episode with Asuka in it
(anything after episode 7) and watch it before deciding whether to
buy the whole thing. If you are one of the people who hate Asuka
and want her dead in a ditch rather than on the show, most of
Evangelion will be a torment to you.

Haw! Of course they do! They've seen Pokemon, after all!
The trouble is, they don't have anything LIKE Pokemon, so they're
trying to draw kids in with a variety of different baits...

Accualy the story is completely finished within the 26 episodes, and the
movies are more a remake (D&R) and an 'outside view' (whats going on outside
the mind of shinji) in EoE.
The movies however are completely con-current with the last 2 episodes.

I'd call it a phenomonem! (spelled right??)

Very true!

But you see Asuka Rox! ^_^
cOwMoO
> But you see Asuka Rox! ^_^
argh. and i though he'd say something sensible.
(;

Hmm. That's funny. Because /I'd/ be happy to nail Rei to a cross and left
for certain MP Eva's to devour as one of the most irritating anime
characters ever.
(At least Asuka has personality.)
--Taryn
Whoa, whoa, we all know Asuka is better ^_^ but Rei has her good points
too...(She is a bit irrataiting sometimes, isn't she)
cOwMoO
Ouch! That's cruel.
> > (At least Asuka has personality.)
Rei has a personality too. It's just not so annoyingly excessive, as
Asuka's.

You're calling Rei irritating?! I'd say that was Asuka's title.
P^3, stirring, stirring...

At least Asuka can think for herself (which I admit isn't always a good
thing), on the other hand Rei shows little to no interest in talking at all.
(Hang on, maybe that ain't so bad ^_^)
In conclusion I say that there is no way we will ever settle the Rei/Asuka
battle, so I myself have decided to unite them (and me ^_^) in my own mind.
cOwMoO
Actually, I really don't hate Rei at all, I'm just getting /extremely/ fed
up with this Psaiyan Prince Vegeta guy's obsesessive posting about sexual
encounters with Rei (besides cross-posting it /everywhere/) and then he had
to go tear on /my/ favorite character. I'm sick enough of his stupidity that
my temper blew.

Live and let live I say.
However he does seem to post quite a bit on that subject :-/
cOwMoO
That's been done in fanfics. Scary thought, though.
Shinji: "So, Misato, what do we call them, I mean her?
Misato: "Hm, how about...Mahoro?"
Rei/Asuka: "WE ARE NOT AMUSED, MAJOR!"
Vaughn L.Porter
Any other ideas for names?
At the risk of stating the ovious, he does seem well-known for that.
Vaughn L.Porter
He wouldn't last too long if Disaster were here.
Or like in "Double and Nothing" by Estabon:
[Shinji] flung the door open and looked at Asuka, who was laying in
her bed.
"Asuka, I." he started.
Then he noticed that Asuka ad her arms wrapped around someone. There
was another person in her bed with her! And to think of what he was
about to say! Then the other person looked up at him from the bed.
"Ayanami!?!?!?!" he yelled out.
Rei stared up at him sheepishly from Asuka's bed. There really
wasn't much she could say, so she just smiled at him.
"No wonder I can never get anywhere with you two!" he yelled at them
accusingly before turning around and leaving the room.
Asuka turned to the girl she held in her arms.
"I told you we should have done this at your place, baka." She said.
P^3
LOL! As if THAT would ever happen! More likely Asuka/Kaoru.
Vaughn L.Porter
Or Rei/Kaoru
