Well, i just finished watching episodes 1-26. The dvd's from cd-wow were the
region 4/2 ones.

Anyways, my favorite scene is at the end of episode 26, in the alternate
reality sequence. When Shinji and Asuka are argueing in his room, Gendo and
Yui are talking in the kitchen. After Yui tells Gendo that he can't be late
for his meeting, anyways, the camera zooms onto Gendo, and we hear him
saying quietly "I Must Obey Her"....

That Deffinately is something that you wouldn't expect Gendo Ikari to say :)

Yeah, I just finished watching the whole series about a week back
(and the movies, bought the box set).. After pretty much forcing
myself to sit through those two episodes, that part was almost
kind of a relief.. Even if I didn't really get it at first, or
both of those episodes.

A couple other favorite scenes as well, the scene with Shinji
chasing after Kaoru in Ep 24, the music and everything seemed to
flow so perfectly.. The only thing I would have changed is the
part where you're staring at the same frame for like a minute.. I
get the point, but its a bit excessive heh.. And when Eva 01
w/the dummy plug in it attacks Ev 03 with Toji in it, I actually
remember feeling 'horrified' by that scene, and the sheer
coldness of it. I usually wouldn't get affected that way just by
watching something. But then you find out he's still alive.
Asuka's battle in EoE also springs to mind.. Evangelion is a
series full of great moments though, the scene when Toji meets
Asuka for the first time was great.

I loved that bit, though. It really gave me time to think about Shinji's
internal struggle and all that, and the Ode to Joy lulling in the
background...
the silence also heightened the moment when Kaoru's head hits the LCL.

Splash.

Like that.

That scene affected me in a way no Hollywood blockbuster ever could.
The sheer gut-wrenching blood, the flesh... and along with the later episode
where Eva 01 eats the S2 engine and there's that spine-chilling roar
(even better on DVD), it's just mind-blowing.

The comedy moments are pretty good too, especially in the couple of episodes
that follow episode 8 with Asuka. The alternative Love Hina Eva in 26 had me
ROFL.

Probably another of my favourites is the very last scene of all, in 26,
where Shinji
suddenly realises he can live in his own perfect world. And suddenly,
all his friends and family are around him, shouting "Congratulations,
Shinji!"
And Shinji finally finds happiness with the people around him, and it
finishes with
the text "Thank you to my father, goodbye to my mother,
And to all the children, congratulations!"
When the credits started to roll for the last time, I thought "Wow, it's all
over..."
It was goddamn amazing. When I eventually see EoE...

I think that for sheer drama pretty much the enrire episode when Shinji and
unit 01 get swallowed by the Sea of Drak, as for comedy well there is so
much to choose from possibly the scene where Shinji first meets Pen Pen or
the one where he and Asuka kiss

Yeah, that first scene with Pen Pen was great.. When Shinji finally
gets rescued from the sea of dirak and Misato is crying over him is
great too.. I remember watching EoE though and after the (*SPOILER* if
you haven't seen the movie) Asuka vs. Assembly Eva battle, when shinji
sees them all flying around like vultures eating the remains of Eva
02.. Man, I thought he was gonna go crazy and kill all of those
bastards. But then we all know what happened after that hah.. Still
good, but everytime I see that scene and hear shinji scream like that,
it just makes you want to see him use Eva 01 to tear right through all
of them.

Aw, you got there first. The destruction of Eva 03 was definitely the
high point of the series; sure, it was brutal and nasty of Gendo to do
something like that, but since the alternative was letting Eva 01 get
destroyed and risk everything, it was an unfortunate necessity. The
thing that made it almost unbearable was that it wasn't just an
unmanned Eva on autopilot tearing 03 apart - it was, in effect, Shinji
doing it. A traumatic experience for such a sensitive person...

Finding out the pilot was still alive was a bit of a let-down, IMO. I
couldn't help but get the feeling that it had been written in because
someone thought things were getting a little _too_ nasty. Toji should
have been found dead in the ruined plug - I can't seriously believe
he'd survive.

That's untrue. It wasn't Shinji at all. If you're going to say it was
ANYONE, it'd be Rei, as the Dummy Plug system installed in Unit-01 was based
off her psyche. Shinji had no contorl.

...unless you mean it just seemed like he was doing it from Shinji's
perspective...

Right. Eva-01 had previously been effectively an extension of Shinji
himself - IIRC, by this stage he's achieving record-breaking sync
ratios. Then suddenly control is ripped from him and 01 begins its
gruesome dismemberment of 03. How would you feel if your body suddenly
started acting on its own and hacked someone to pieces? Sure, it
wasn't _you_ doing it, but still...

Yeah, thats exactly how I felt.. Maybe it's wrong, but I think they
should have let toji die at that part, it just seemed a cop-out to me.
Such a highly emotional point in the series and it lost some of its
impact.. The scene is still one of my favorites, but it would have
meant more if he had died (heh, damn that sounds screwed up). When Rei
died and they found out she was 'alive', I was like 'what the damn
hell, I guess they won't leave anyone dead in this series'..

The point being as I got it that that Rei was actually dead and was replaced
by a clane that was slightly different

Rei II died when her EVA self destructed. Rei III was created and assumed
Rei II's role. In Evangelion: Death she also says she probably cannot
remember anything because she thinks she's "the third"

Yeah, I understand that it was Rei III, so I guess since she didn't
remember anything it's like the original rei really did die.. But when
I first watched it, it kinda pissed me off because I just thought they
were fuckin' wit' my emotions, hah.. Killing off characters and then
bringing them back later in the same episode.
