It's known as:
- B-21 - but I didn't really check which version it is, but it might
be the first one (track 1 on S2 Works, disc 3)
- "A moment when tension breaks" - on OST 2, track 10

How do you people do that? Is there a list somewhere that details
each music piece and the scene it's in, or have you got photographic
(phonographic?) memories?

Well, asides quickly watching the episode :) (which i'm sure is episode 10!)
I personally can list all the appearances of Marking Time, Waiting for Death
up to episode 10 (which is as far as i've got..) - sort of.

I don't know of any, but next time I watch the series I'll create one
(by changing the Literal Translation Scripts). But it may take some time
until I start... but when I'm done, I'll send you the diffs to the LTS
if you want.

The latter. I don't have good photographic memories - that's why I'll
never be able to learn Japanese *g* - but it's easy for me to remember
one or two bars of music. After watching the scene, I went through the
MP3 files of S2 Works. Good thing I know someone who's bought these 7
CDs.
BTW: It *was* ep 10, why did I switch them? I should never do any manual
file renaming and instead use Larry's "rename" Perl script. My
mistake was even obvious by the files' last modification dates
(which is the date when ripping and encoding was done for the
file). Good thing someone lent me his DVD-ROM drive for this
purpose... and me, that stupid idiot, forgot to also rip *without*
subtitles...

Do you know where the first appearance of Asuka's theme is? Don't google
for that, that would be too easy. Hint: it's *before* episode 8.

Hah! That's easy! :) Episode 2, when Shinji meets Pen-Pen. It's a
violin-less version.

Exactly. And this scene is the one because of which I wonder why this
theme is not called "PenPen's theme" - normally a character's theme is
played on his/her first appearance.
But since these tracks are not identical, there's a way out. You can
call the "full" version Asuka's theme and the "reduced" version PenPen's
theme. Does this sound weird? Perhaps, but why are "the heady feeling of
freedom" and "good, or don't be" not named after the original track -
the Cruel Angel's Thesis? What about that many FMTTM variants that got
completely different names? The naming *is* completely inconsequent,
therefore this one thing would be overseen anyway.

It's different enough to warrant it's own titling (that's not a word, is
it?), if you ask me.

It's not really different - they just left out one or two voices, that's
all.
I don't recall another episode where it occurs - but I don't have such a
list yet.

- OST 1, track 06 - barefoot in the park
- S2 Works, disc 02, Track 25 - C-2. No extra versions of this one
available, therefore it must be this one.

That would be fantastic.
Has anyone found the LTS to be a little too literal? I mean, when I
read through them I felt many of the jokes were garbled. Only by
remembering the ADV translated version could I piece together the real
jokes.

So some of these jokes were not created by ADV but also appear in the
Japanese text?

dirlist only. So all you can get are the file sizes... unless I forgot
to chown the old incoming directory to root.ftp, 0775 (different FTP
servers need different configurations, and I changed from proftpd to
pureftpd). Some people have read access - but I know these
personally. And they know what happens to their user accounts when they
don't close their connections when I tell them to via ICQ and their FTP
client attempts to reconnect after I killed the connection.
Or is there another workaround for pureftpd to have a dirlist-only
anonymous user than specifying a ratio and providing no working upload
directory?
