Actually, it looks like he's the pilot for one of the MPE (Mass
Production Evas), because there are 5 evas in that shot. Unit 00, Unit
01, Unit 02, Unit 03, and an MPE.

I think that the MPE *is* supposed to be Unit-04 (Kensuke has a big
'4' on his back after all...)

I don't see any other 'in the future' shots in these screencaps.
Perhaps Rei likes to babysit.
And remember, this isn't the 'real' Rei. It's the Rei from Shinji's
fantasy world of ep 26, which is where this game is set.

Unless Anno or whoever made the game decided that Unit 04 was the basis
for the MPEs, they are stretching it, because Unit 04 originally
created a Sea of Dirac that enveloped the US base of operations, and
that's why they sent the untested Unit 03 to Japan.
Besides, I personally think that Kensuke would get dizzy when the entry
plug spins into the MPE, or even worse, he's the dummy plug that's
controlling all of them in the movie.

Whare are all these? They don't appear to be from girlfriend of steel
and many of them Rei looks older like late h/s or college aged. Please
