I have a HP 812 photosmart - with a 256MB SanDisk SD card - took 65
ictures - dropped the camera and the pictures were gone - "no pictures" in
camera - are the memory cards this fragile? and is there any chance of
recovery? Guess I'll have to keep the memory card out of the camera - just
wondering if this has been the experience of anyone else - or is it a
SanDisk issue - I have already
replaced a SanDisk - thanks for any help. Brenda

these unused words floating about:

Did you try reading the CF card in an external card reader?

If you give up, does formatting restore the card to 'life'?

Thank you so much for the reply - I'm really new at this digital game so
please stay with me - I do not have an external card reader - Might that be
a good idea for
me to invest in one? And is so, how do I know what kind? I download my
camera thru a docking station - As for formatting - When I go to that
feature on the camera - it says unsupported card -
Does this give you any help in maybe being able to help me - I appreciate
so much the time you take on my behalf - Thanks much. Brenda

Take the cartridge to a camera store or digital developer and ask if they
can read it.

Yup! Excellent idea Bob.

As for a card reader you don't need to have any expert knowledge
just get a USB 1.1 compatable reader hopefully with multiple
slot types for if you ever need to read/write other media
types. I got one advertised as 7-in-1 (reads 7 media types)
for like $19.99 at the local electronics shop.

If you want to try and spueeze a little extra speed out of
some media types and you have USB 2.0 on your computer you
can get a USB 2.0 reader for about twice the price I mentioned.

I sure appreciate all the helpful suggestions - I will be bringing it to my
local camera shop who said they will read it for me - and I will talk to
them about a reader for myself - sounds like a good idea - thanks again to

Just one more thought. Do you have another memory card? It is a good idea to
have an extra in case the active one gets full, broken, etc. If you do have
an extra card, try it in the camera. It is possible that the card is OK and
(perish the thought) the camera is broken.
