Hi,

are there any Japanese culture NGs (in English!) which have high
traffic? If I a look at fj.soc.culture there is nearly nothing.

Try the soc.culture.japan newsgroup or this one.

Nah, dude. You're pretty much stuck slumming with the assortment of
riffraff here. Lots of web page based stuff, though, if you don't mind
people even more dense and clueless than us.

Sorry--you'll just have to learn the language and access
Japanese-language websites.

For some reason, the people who are truly knowledgeable about Japanese
culture don't post in English on newsgroups. (I can think of at least
one Japanese-culture-related newsgroup where such people have given up
on correcting all the wittering posted there by those who have rather
less knowledge than spare time. I have a crowded killfile on that
group.)

BTW, it might be a good idea to avoid that "J" abbreviation if you do
try posting to such a group.

soc.culture.japan has a lot of traffic. I'm pretty sure they are high too.
Traffic is the wrong word -- more like bousouzoku doing wheelies in some
nighttime parking lot.

This used to be a fairly active and useful newsgroup until the Great
Flamewar of the Late 90's. Then, barbarian hordes, with new and
cheaper technology, took over this newsgroup and decimated the once
proud and affable society of Japan cogniscenti who habited this place.
A dread fear spread far and wide and any intelligent comment on Japan
was quickly killed. Now, those that are left, if they still remember
anything about Japan, are certainly not telling us what they know. ;)
