Any recommendations on fun things to do in the
Kawachinagano/Tandoboyashi/Sakai region of Osaka?? Any bookstores or
other shops of particular interest to an English speaker?

A friend of mine lived in that area so I'll ask. I know that there
are/were some good resources in and around the large building just
across the bridge from KIX; that's where a good many import/export
agencies are, so there are many foreigners in that area.

Many foreigners in Izumisano area too. Try following

Mangaya Bar in Izumisano
Lonestar in Izumisano
Pig & Whistle in Nipponbashi/Namba
There are many other bars that I can't recall right now esp. in Namba area.
If you're in to cultural activities try ICA (Izumisano Cross Cultural
Association).
