Asuka or Gendo was to screw Rei and no-one forced anyone to have sex, then
neither of them would be breaking the law and neither could be called
pedophiles. Is that right?
I'm guessing that to a Japanese person, Rei and Asuka would just be sexy
young women, rather than sexy jailbait.
I cant believe that Gainax would be allowed to sexualise jailbait girls on
TV to such an extent if this were not the case, though I think that some of

Well yeah, that goes without saying. Besides, it *IS* illegal for a U.S.
citizen (or pretty much any other foreigner) to have sex with a Japanese

FBI's jurisdiction over kidnapping cases -- the same
law also forbids transporting children over state lines

Actually, that wouldn't do much good because I've got an office on the
inside of the building -- there are other offices on two sides and some
big lab on the third side. It looks like there used to be a window on
that third side though, before they expanded the building. Oh well, I'm
just a grad student, I can't expect much. At least I have a decent

The proportions in that pic seem rather contrary to what I've seen in
other pics of the same. I blame it on artist bias.

I doubt it. Just about every piece of official Eva art I've seen where
you can tell at all makes it clear that Rei has noticably larger breasts
than Asuka. Including, I might add, the famous "character" video covers
and the anime itself. It's probably a subtle enhancement to Rei's
"motherhood" feeling (and marketability, of course).

Granted, there is not a huge difference (Asuka is stated as being a
B-cup, so I'd guess that Rei is a full B-cup), but Rei is definitely
bigger.
Asuka is noticeably slimmer than Rei (though I prefer to think of Rei
as having a nicer ass), so perhaps her breasts do look larger in
proportion to her waistline...

It has been stated that this particular scene was inserted as a
'filler', to cut down on animation costs. Whether this was actually
the case or not, I think that it was an effective method of building
up the tension between the two women. It is a very uncomfortable
scene.
Likewise, the much-maligned scene in Episode 24 where Eva-01 holds
Kaworu in its hand for over a minute before squashing him. I don't
think that Anno could have hoped for a nastier, more excruciating end.
Just the emotionless face of the giant machine passing judgement over
the last Angel whilst the strains of Beethoven's 9th play in the
background.
To me, this is so much more effective than showing endless close-ups
of Shinji grimacing, flashbacks to scenes with Shinji and Kaworu from
earlier in the episode, siezure-inducing quick cuts and whatever else
a lesser filmmaker may have done to explain to the audience exactly
what was going on inside the head of our hero. Anno shows us all that
we need to know - Shinji makes a choice to kill in cold blood the boy
who betrayed him just like his father.
We do not need to see the details, the agonizing wait and the dull
crack of his bones is enough.
