Yeah. I actually selected a dozen or so pictures to make a new album
with....about six months ago. I'm about two dozen books behind on book
blurbs. But that ain't no big deal since they're not doing anybody the
least bit of good anyway. And anything that I ever have to say, I just
say it here instead of making a web page out of it.
Actually, I obtained a domain name and 5gb of web space, planning to
completely rework the site to take advantage of (rather basic)
features my ISP freebie doesn't provide. Shit like shtml, for example.
Having taken down the site with all the Japanese golden oldies, I was
looking for something to take its place. My idea was to collect
specimens of Japanese advertising. Television, print, radio, whatever.
I figured it would be interesting to people who have never lived here
and might even be useful to people studying Japanese. And there's far
less chance of a gang of lawyers coming after me.
But the web host I got the service from *and* registered the domain
name with turned out to be some fraudulent motherfuckers. How
fraudulent? The head of the gang is currently in federal prison for
credit card fraud. Wanna guess on who? His customers! Naturally, this
has had shit all screwed up. I paid for a year's service and got
almost ZERO. The domain name is registered through those bastards, so
God only knows how I go about getting control of it again. I have no
intention of re-paying for space somewhere else. Not until next
year...maybe. I'll probably end up having to let the domain name lapse
and then re-register it. It's all fucked up right now.
As you can see, having had plans to completely revamp the thing under
a different name and on a server with 5gb instead of 10mb, I haven't
been all that keen to put a lot of work into minor changes/additions
to the thing as it currently exists.
Sheesh. I think next time you ought to at least go with a major ISP, or someone
who won't cheat you like... like ME! YEAH, THAT'S IT! PAY FOR MY FIXED IP, D00D,
and YOU GOT ALL THE SPACE YOU WANT!
I want to do the same thing, I've got some hardware. When I eventually I get my
home B-Flets set up we could work on it. We (ie my work) might be able to help
with getting the domain back, when you get a chance email me with the details.

Mike,
As long as updates arent too frequent, I can chuck it onto a bit of
space on my web account. Let me know (privately if need be) what the
domain name is, and Ill see if I can point directly to that name, or if
I can give you a subdomain off my account. Or you can just say thanks
but no thanks of course. I just hate to see decent web sites such as
yours stagnate because some crook got greedy.

Once you get over the initial panic stage, oxygen starvation is actually
a rather pleasant sensation, almost like falling asleep.
