Sorry, just wanted to register that my Director's Cut copy of the last 3 Eva
eps came in the mail today, even though I've only had time to watch the
first one. And I got an acknowledment of receipt for my application to
intern at LucasArts too. It was a good day...

and wonder aloud why there's been no discussion of the new cuts here, or any
discussion at all lately. I know people are reading from the old-timer
exchanges.

So far the most interesting thing I've noticed is that they included a "Next
Episode" preview for "Air" after 24 made out of production sketches in
addition to the standard one. Does this indicate that the original
intention was to use an abbreviated version of "Air" as Ep 25?

Oh dear, another one lost to the dark side.....

You know why he made those movies dont you...It's to glorify the dark side.
Everyone liked Vader in the end cos of his sacrifice, and now Lucas can
inflict his dominance over the world....we're all doomed...

unless someone has a small portable geofront and EVA schematics?

Just out of curiosity, what are your views on the recent cancelling of
Sam 'n' Max Freelance Police?

Of course, if your answer will lose you your job then feel free to
ignore this request ;-)

Well, they don't have this email, so no problem... not to mention they

I've never played the original Sam n Max, unfortunately. Sometime hopefully
I'll be able to get a copy at a reasonable price and use that SCUMM
emulator, whatever it's called, to play it.

But this was a huge mistake for Lucasarts, I think, and might herald the end
of the adventure-games segment of the industry if it's not already dead.
Lucasarts is one of the only companies still developing new adventure games
(the cancelled Full Throttle 2, the cancelled SnM 2, the rumored Monkey
Island 5), but I guess they don't want to take the risk of actually
releasing innovative games now. As someone on Slashdot pointed out, they
could update the graphics on TIE Fighter and I would buy it, not to mention
a pack of all their old adventure games in a format playable by a modern
PC. To a certain extent they're a very different company than they used to
be... maybe they got too big.

As for me, I still have most of Monkey Islands 3 and 4 to play through,
having bought them both years ago and never gotten to them, so I still have
Lucasarts adventure games that are "new to me" to look forward to. But,
bottom line: if SnM 2 was funny and well-done, it would have turned a
profit, regardless of the lack of familiarity most of the younger gamers
have with adventure games.

Hmm, now that I think about it, I should have started my cover letter to
them "my name is Guybrush Threepwood, and I'm a mighty software developer!"

Why? Do you want to borrow one? (was that the right one?)

I have met apes more polite than you.

Yes.

I'm glad to hear you attended your family reunion!

I usually see people like you passed out on tavern floors.

*doh*, now I know why its not smart to drink and then write an article
on usenet.. Totally missed this one :/

I couldn't agree more. That short scene rocked IMO.

Hmmm... Either that or they simply used it to make things easier to
understand. IMO a lot of the DC additions are focussed on making it
easier or more clear; leaving less to guess.

Oh well; its still an interesting experience.

I don't remember that one, but I'll say: Even before they smelled your
breath?

There are other insults that I can't really remember. There were the
shish kebob one and a janitor one. You win; you got me.

You're good enough to fight the Swordmaster!

For Monkey Island 3, I heard that the person who was an integral part of
the first two games was not involved with the 3rd game. Was that true
or did I hear wrong.

Exactly. That one was from the sword master, that could have made it harder for
you since you don't fight the swordmaster that often.

> There are other insults that I can't really remember. There were the

Is it the one which was translated to the following?

Mein Schwert wird dich aufspießen wie einen Schaschlik!
Dann mach nicht damit rum wie mit einem Staubwedel.

I don't remember the English text of that one any more. The insults were freely
translated into German so it's fun to play it in both languages... one example:

Have you stopped wearing diapers yet?

I hope you have a boat ready for a quick escape.
Why, did you want to borrow one?

was "translated" to

Trägst du immer noch Windeln?
Hast du eine Idee, wie du hier lebend davon kommst?
Wieso, die könntest DU viel eher gebrauchen!

Translating this back to English yields:

Do you still wear diapers?
Do you have any idea how you'll get away alive?
Why, YOU would need them/it much more!

And literally translating the English insults to German yields:

Hast du schon aufgehört, Windeln zu tragen?
Ich hoffe, du hast ein Boot bereitstehen für eine schnelle Flucht.
Wieso, wolltest du dir eine/eins ausleihen?

> and a janitor one. You win; you got me.

Mit meinem Taschentuch werde ich dein Blut aufwischen!
Also hast du DOCH den Job als Putze gekriegt!

True. Ron Gilbert helmed the first two; the others were done by different
people.
