The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner

From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

So what are you downloading with that bandwidth? Porn or pirated music?

There are other common conjunctions beside "or", you know. I can think
of one which is probably more appropriate in this case.

Just the other day I was reflecting on the wonders of the age I find
myself living in. And on the costs and troubles of computer ownership
and internet access.

I decided that the availability of free porn and pirated music have
made it all much more than worthwhile.

Yesterday, I ordered a nice little 30GB hard drive mp3 walkman-thingy
so I can conveniently carry seven or eight thousand of my favorite
songs to work with me, and not have to bother with those damned CD-Rs
full of mp3s instead.

Indeed it does. It sucks almost as bad as slavery, Communism, Nazism,

Primary function will be to serve as my stereo in the truck. I have
little use for a walkman-type device employed in normal walkman-type
situations.

I have a DC-AC converter running from the cigarette lighter (24Vdc to
100Vac) which will power the unit and a set of computer speakers.

Up until now, I have been using the type of CD-walkman which will also
play mp3s. While it has been good, there are just so many points where
the capacity and flexibility of a hard drive unit will leave it in the
dust.

Try to spend a little more time researching the product line and
you'll see why I avoided those.

Just a few hints:

1. Compare the photos of the two very closely.
2. The model you found also comes in 30gig.
3. But it ain't the same model I got.
4. Ask yourself why they would market two *seemingly* identical
products.

A piece of advice for anyone contemplating getting one of these:

The very first thing you should do is to head over to
http://www.redchairsoftware.com and purchase their "Notmad" software
for managing the thing. The software that comes with the device sucks.

These gadgets are built to absorb vibrations, but I have recently run across
a message by a truck driver who advised to place the MP3 player in a box
padded with cotton wool. He used to put in somewhere on the dash or a shelf
where vibration was directly conveyed to the unit until it was ripe for
repair/readjustment. Just a thought to rescue your pocket money...

Not at all, there are plenty of good causes around the world that need fighting.

I'd be quite happy for Gowen to Iraq and help with the WMD search. Not sure what
US Army basic training involves, it might be too late for him to finish recruit
training and corps (branch) training in time for the rotation at the end of this
year, but he would be ready for early 2004 when the 1st, 3rd and 4th Div have to
go back and they'll be desperate for soldiers (he doesn't need to worry about
voting in the coming election as he lives in Florida).

If he didn't hate the blue hats so much he could go to Liberia where a friend of
mine has just been
"I am still In Sierra Leone, and have not been to Iraq... Over the last few
weeks I was involved in the planning of the deployment of the Nigerian Battalion
to Liberia...Anyway I went into Monrovia (it is called Roberts Field) on Day One
- The 4th of Aug and then everyday for the first eight days to make sure things
went well."

Gowen could be their economics adviser and teach how to stop being black and
poor.

Firstly I'm not sure I have said that. I didn't want them (correction "us")
there in the first place. But in contrast to Afghanistan, the job needs to be
finished.

Secondly notwithstanding the above I would be happy to make an exception in
Gowen's case, perhaps he could lead the vanguard against Iran.

I'm sure I could give him some pointers in desert survival. Never stand when you
can sit, never sit when you can lie, never lie when you can sleep. Don't drink

But how can it be finished? As much as I want my relatives out
(preferably like, right now), and didn't want them sent into that
gorrfosaken hole to start with, that place is never going to be stable
until the foreign troops leave and the next despot is securely in place.

What is the current body count?

Considering the Coalition of the Willing fucked up their country more in one

to at least get the utilites running.
