Hi i have a general question.
I stopped practicing judo 14 years ago, now i'm 30 and i felt like doing it
again.
I had a violett belt (because i was too young to get the brown belt) when i
stopped and wondered if they would give it back to me or if i'd have to
start all over again from white (which wouldn't annoy me anyway).

Congratulations about you coming back to practicing judo, your body and
soul will likely enjoy feeling fitter again ;-)
About you retaining your former grade, just talk to your new
teacher/master. It most probably will give you back the grade you had, but
of course it could rather take a look at your skills before making a
decision, or even ask you to start over again. Anyway, as you say, it
doesn't matter that much, as your skill isn't affected by the color of your
belt, but if you want to become a referee or master, a dark color surely
helps.
Best regards.

Chols.

Actually i've decided to train my body to be fit again (i'm in good shape
anyway) like one/two hour sport everyday in the swimming pool, some running
and gymnastics in a club to gain muscles and develop the cardio-vascular
system (rowing and cycling).

As for the technical skills i'll try to remember them thanks to books and
websites and i'll try to find judokas and have access to dojos to train with
these guys.

If everything is ok and i recollect the techniques i could then as you said
ask the master the right to wear again my blue belt (as violet is for kids).
A hard work lies in front of me but old belt or not i would be ready in
mid-september when the lessons start.

PS : i bought a kimono which is supposed to shrink a bit after washing but
it's still too long for me, so problems are heaping up *lolz*

If you have an old licence with your kyu on, you can use again the belt.

I have my second black belt in Tae Kwon Do and just started practicing
JuJitsu. I have to tell you that between learning Japanese and how to fall I
have had to work really hard for my schools upcoming yellow belt test (we
have a no BS teacher). I am very proud of my white belt at this point. I
would forget the color of the belt on start working on your Ukemi (I'm
almost 40 and every fall hurts a bit more than I would like ;).
