Now I see there is a fundamental problem with the word
"public". Not only is there no searchable term (but for
the name of a band) "general public", "public" is about
as general or universal as you can be:
public (INVOLVING PEOPLE)
adjective [not gradable]
relating to or involving people in general, rather than
being limited to a particular group of people
public opinion
There is increased public awareness of the dangers of
smoking.
His ideas have very little public support.
The results won't be made public (= told to people in
general).
Public relations (abbreviation PR) is the activity of
keeping good relationships between an organization and
the people outside it.
public
noun [U]
all the people, esp. all those in one place or country
The park is open to the public from sunrise to
sunset. The public is also the people who do not belong
to a particular group or organization: The book is not
yet available to the general public.Your public is the
people involved with you or your organization, esp. in
a business relationship: The newspapers publish the
stories they know their public wants to read.
noun: people in general considered as a whole
(Example: "He is a hero in the eyes of the public")
1 a : exposed to general view : OPEN b : WELL-KNOWN,
PROMINENT c : PERCEPTIBLE, MATERIAL
2 a : of, relating to, or affecting all the people or
the whole area of a nation or state <public law> b : of
or relating to a government c : of, relating to, or
being in the service of the community or nation
Even broader and more general than I ever intended to
mean.
Also "reveal":
verb: make known to the public information that was
previously known only to a few people or that was meant
to be kept a secret (Example: "The actress won't reveal
how old she is")
Hmm. Make known to "the public". Unless it were
required for study at school, public or private, almost
all people went to school, and it was so back when the
older generation was being educated, no, the issue of
Unit 731 will never be revealed to "the public". That
they existed, maybe, (as ruled recently by the Supreme
Court and admitted by Japan) but what they were doing,
when information is still coming to light, and people
near death are just beginning to speak? Not anytime
soon.
No, I do not mean that NO ONE knows NOTHING about Unit
731, but no, the "public" or "general public" do not
know. And yes, I do know that the issue has made books,
TV and the papers, where yes, was where I saw it
myself, yes, also in Japanese.
It would seem that the public does not even know
English, despite it being revealed to them in great
volume and detail in the post WWII period, or formally
taught to them for three, six, ten or even more years,
if Masayuki would like to bring up English.
If anyone would like to wrongly continue arguing that
the issue of Unit 731 is indeed known to and has been
revealed to the Japanese "public" please continue
without me as of last Friday.
